      Hey! The main problem I have with Echo Dot 3 with Clock on my night stand is that even with the lowest brightness setting it is too bright at night. I'm curious if this has been solved with the Echo Dot 5 with Clock?

Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....

    We've been using Alexa since the very first Echo was released (the old tall black can). That Echo still lives in our kitchen and we have an Echo Dot in every room. I'm wondering whether you've had trouble getting the correct Echo to respond. We have two in adjacent bedrooms, and I find that when I ask the one in my bedroom to turn on the lights, Alexa next door will give me a lot of back talk about how she just doesn't know what that means and where I can go to fix it. Another "feature" I wish I could turn off is what I call the "by the way" mode. Often when I give a simple request or command, I get a longwinded "by the way, you can. . ." I find myself saying "Alexa, shut up" a lot.
    Yesterday, I was standing between the bedrooms yelling for Alexa to shut up while she was giving me a lot of unwanted instructions. One of them responded, "I'm sorry, I don't know how to do that on this device." LOL! "I'm talking and I can't shut up!"

    • @mikemotorbike4283
      @mikemotorbike4283 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      "Daddy's Home!" But seriously, the whole point of smart plugs was to save power. They can do this by shutting them off when no motion is detected. Also, you don't have to buy 4 devices just to have a nightlight: two Flexs , one for the sensor and another for the nightlight. As well, they can act as a security sensor.

    • @CyberMedics
      @CyberMedics ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You'd be better off with a motion sensor. It seems to have a hardwired time setting of 30 minutes between activations. May work well if you just want to turn off a forgotten light, but don't rely on it for anything near real time activation.

    Question - On the fifth gen can you have it NOT display the songs being played? In other words I just want the CLOCK displayed constantly regardless of what Alexa is doing. For instance if I want white noise played throughout the night I don't want that scrolling across the screen all night. I want the clock displayed.

    • @CyberMedics
      @CyberMedics ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @mikemotorbike4283
      @mikemotorbike4283 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Buy a cheap on sale Flex for the output plug. It's convenient and hangs unobtrusively from a receptacle. Of course, now the old dots are as cheap.
      A tip: When you are listening to music on other echo speakers, you can issue the Flex commands by another name (Amazon or Hey Santa) so the volume won't reduce as it takes the load off the other, active, music playing echo speaker. It makes for an uninterupted listening experience. It's great to buy the Cube and use the remote when you are feeling shy or ignored by Alexa because she cunt hear you, Alexa, Stop! ALEXA STOP! as the remote can hear you over the roar of music in the room. You can also go to the next song, and adjust the volume.

    • @carlosdd262
      @carlosdd262 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mikemotorbike4283 The poit is that a dot 3 listen better than a Flex, I don't need it to be on the wall and I connect it to better sound quality speakers using the output jack. Same on my first gen Echo Show 8, I connect it to better studio speckers toguether with my desktop computer output so I get thogueter best soud quality on alexa (echo show and computer), on the 2nd gen Echo show there is no output jack.

    Just got the 5th gen + clock today to replace my 3rd gen. The new features on it are kinda nifty, the sound is obviously better, and I even got 2 free lightbulbs with it for the Black Friday price, not bad.
    I'm kinda fascinated by the display on it, can't wait to see a teardown somewhere. I do agree it's a little hard to read the display from afar, so I'm not totally sure if I'm going to replace my big red LED clock with it or just use this near my desk. I'll have to see if playing with the brightness helps at all.
    I'm not a constant music player on it, if I was I'd say getting some halfway decent external speakers and plugging them into my 3rd gen would be the way to go, but that also would take a lot more room.

I even set up a 3rd gen inside our maintenance workshop at work and the guys love it. I use it for music and quick mathematics it makes conversion quick and easy like "what is 5/8 in a percentage" or "what is 3 inches in mm" . it helps to have a practical use besides music for the bosses to keep happy

    I have 4th gen Dot and it is great. I think feature addons in 5th gen are incredible. Temperature se sor, slightly better sound and better display are gamechangers actually. But, man sound quality of Homepod Mini is sensational. Incomparable.

    We tried the last Gen dot with clock in our bedroom but the volume was wonky, at the lowest setting it was still very loud when we used any sleep sounds. We swapped it out for a 5in show and that was great, but the shows screen brightness won't adjust low enough, the volume is perfect though. I picked up a Show 15 and then moved a Show 8 into the bedroom and it sounds great but the bigger screen is brighter still even at 7-8% brightness level... I do enjoy all the functionality of my Amazon assistants especially when they drop in price during Prime Days!

      Try this at bedtime, "Alexa, turn off screen!" And adjust the volume in the app to get fine granularity over volume control.

    According to Amazon's page for this; it does NOT have a built in thermostat. But why on friggin earth did they remove the AUX? To get it bigger battery and camera? :/
    Edit: As much clearer the Dot 5 is compared to Dot 3, the dot makes Alexa sound... more like Alexa. We got too used to that robotic voice haha. AND THE PRICE!!!

    Unrelated to this video, we have a lamp in our foyer that turns on with a kasa smart outlet on a schedule for the evening and early morning, but I would also like it to kick on automatically if the light level in the foyer drops during the day (very overcast day or something like that). Any ideas?
