Well for Speed 2 I heard Keanu Reeves didn't want to come back for the sequel because he didn't like the script and he was right because the sequel sucked
Just a point: the movie version of Hannibal didn't make the decision to change the focal character. Thomas Harris did in the book, which is excellent, by the way.
Controversy alert...I prefer the film to the book. It's THAT ending to the book. It always felt like a teenager's rushed homework...'And they woke up and it was all a dream'. The film is very underrated. I visited Florence recently and had to do a bit of location hunting. It's a testament to the lighting designer of the film.. the area around to boar fountain is actually quite a bright place...not the dark alleyways of the film.
I disagree with your take on Muppets Most Wanted. I had a MAJOR problem with the Walter centric Muppet Movie in that it concentrated more on the human characters and set the Muppets more as supporting characters. In their own movie!!! MMW at least had the plot from start to finish centered around the Muppets! Which is as it should be!!!
Sorry but your Jurassic Park choice fails for lack of information. The book The Lost World was written in 1995 and the 1997 movie itself was based loosely on it. That means the movie isn't actually a sequel by itself but part of a book series
To be fair the franchise is called cars not Lightning McQueen and I believe at the time Disney was focused on marketing Mater so much Mater got his own tv shorts. Also, Jurassic Park was only planned as a single book. Crichton only wrote the Lost World because Spielberg kind of forced him to do so. Crichton wrote the book to center around Ian. If you read the The Lost World Crichton had retconned a couple of things from the first book.
Yeah, this list is kinda nonsense. Most of the decisions sniped at were made because of actors not returning or faithfulness to the source material. If you had used 'Unfortunately' instead of 'Stupidly' in the title - and been a little less snarky - it would have worked a whole lot better. Curse you for making me defend the studios! Gah
On the flip side, you should do a list of times when the sequel switched the main character and it worked. I would Predator 2 is a good example. While nowhere near the level of the Arnold driven original, Predator 2 was way better than it probably had any right to be.
On the one hand, you say Hannibal broke the formula by making Hannibal the main character. I do agree with that, I didn't enjoy Hannibal in anything like the way I loved Silence of the Lambs. To then say, 'Less said about the prequel the better...' The prequel used the same formula as Silence of the Lambs, albeit with a different protagonist, and was very enjoyable as a result. The franchise might have had legs if the prequel was released first imo.
I suppose I'm one of those rare people who thinks Red Dragon is superior to Hannibal. I prefer it to Manhunter as well. Hannibal is ultimately just a mishmash of scenes trying, and failing, to make Hannibal seem scarier than he was in Silence Of The Lambs. My only qualm with Red Dragon is that, naturally, Hannibal doesn't look younger than he does in Silence Of The Lambs. If you want to bag a prequel: go with Hannibal Rising.
Was Jeff Goldblum really the lead in Independence Day Resurgence? Both movies really didn't have a lead, I felt it was more Little Thor's movie and that is why it failed.
You can't admit a movie did well and then call it stupid that they changed the main character, talking of Hannibal, the movie was great, and that tension you say is missing is right there, especially at the end, when Clarice confronts Hannibal, besides, it SHOULD center around him, he was an escaped fugitive now. Absurd you have this in a list of "stupid" changes.
Ehhh pushing it with Hannibal (still a very 2 protagonist movie), even admittingly doing so with Attack of the Clones. Some films are just multi-protagonist outings.
Stop shitting on the Borne Legacy! It never tried to be more than world building spin off. And it delivered so well, that Renner is now permanently cast as a super spy in the biggest movie franchise ever.

Well the movie is literally called HANNIBAL so...
@mattt233 Correct, just like the book it's based on.
Yes, the book was excellent.

@@danjames4086 I mean, the movie is fine, but I still prefer the book. To each their own.
they didn't ditch keanu reeves...keanu reeves ditched them😆
What’s with the Goldblum slander here? I’ll not have it!!
I thought it was "The Bus That *Couldn't* Slow Down", not "wouldn't".
Jason Statham not in Transporter Reloaded was Deal Breaker.
Car 2 is honestly why i like the two friends equally plus lightning didn’t need much development for sequel

Love Jules slipping his one per list in ❤
yay, the 'one per list' is back again!
Return of the One-Per-List!

1:41 Great Simpsons reference.

It was, and it was called Manhunter.
Yeah, Manhunter was Brian Cox *really* stretching his legs.
10 Sequels That Were Improved by Changing the Main Character
Bourne identity was 2002 not mid 90s?
I'm pretty sure he said mid noughties
Red Dragon was decent!
No, Red Dragon is the BEST "Hannibal" film except SOTL. ❤
The prequel he was talking about is Hannibal Rising from 2007. That was the movie that he said that the least we talk about it the better.

Ooh...not so sure. Have you seen Manhunter? Superb film.

It's also not the movie that made that decision. Thomas Harris did in his book.
Ok so i guess the fly remake doesnt exist cuz im pretty sure u just said jeff goldblum cant carry a movie
Hearing Star Wars fans spew vitriol over those silly garbage movies makes me smile.
Ehhh pushing it with Hannibal (still a very 2 protagonist movie), even admittingly doing so with Attack of the Clones. Some films are just multi-protagonist outings.
I enjoyed wall Street: money never sleeps and the Bourne legacy
Ok that’s wired just finished watching cars 2 with my daughter then came on TH-cam and watched this video 😮

Smith priced himself out of the independence day sequel so they had no choice. Personally I enjoyed the sequel. I prefer godblum.
Stop shitting on the Borne Legacy! It never tried to be more than world building spin off. And it delivered so well, that Renner is now permanently cast as a super spy in the biggest movie franchise ever.
I will watch any episode narrated by Jules.
Cars 1 was Doc Hollywood. Great storyline. 2 & 3 were all original nonsense.
This was interesting.
