Dex affects cast speed, lightning is the least resisted element, and being in water makes the resistance go even lower. Lightning builds are already op. They don't need free max cast speed with max damage scaling at meta level with no drawbacks.
The drawback would be taking points away from the incant stat requirements. Like sure, it’s not the hardest thing to get to the faith level for the barriers and other utility things. So it’s not the greatest drawback. But it’s something.
Chrightt: "Ooo math... Become my blade once more" 😁 love the in-depth analysis and precise numbers and that You pair all of these with further PvP/PvE context, great job keep it up kind Sir! 👌
Excellent analysis. One remark; I believe vagabond is the optimal class. The stats that contribute nothing are arc and int. Prophet has 7 int 10 arc but vag has 7 arc 9 int which is 1 extra point. The twin axes require 12 dex, so have to invest 2 in dex with Prophet while getting 3 back from savings in int arc, but save 4 from int arc as vagabond and overinvest in dex by only 1. Though if you don't plan to use twin axes this is less relevant.
Switching in 2 pieces of rakshasa lets you get over 51 poise while keeping the damage boost. Also, death knight armor also boosts dragon cult skills (AoWs) in addition to the incantations
Fire gets better DMG because of how STR works, DEX gets good DMG bc of how Def works, DEX also increases cast SPD. INT/FAI get lower base DMG because you typically put more into your scaling stat for catalysts. IDK why ppl complain about a balanced game.
@@Brokentwobutton excuse me, what? balanced game? That is a little stretched out for Elden Ring. Str yes, its a good stat because of the two hand bonus. But why would dex be also better because of defense? I don't understand what you meant there. I don't know why you missed the point, but talking about the element damages, lightning is one of the few that has a strange place in weapons, for instance, trying to make a build around bolt of gransax is stat demaning, you need 20 str and 40 dex, but then you cannot combine it efficiently with spellcasting because the damn weapon doesn't have faith scaling. To put a comparison, you can use a dex/int weapon and get all benefits because those weapons have decent int scaling and the dex stats only add to your casting speed. That's cohesion. However, by going lightning your wasting points in the tremendous 20 str and high dex so that your ash of war stick can be usable. No wonder moonveil was so popular at launch, it was free and busted. And that is not balanced. And one other thing to note is that From made changes to lightning weapons in the DLC, death knight axes and lightning perfume scaling to fatih. and some incantations that were faster to cast too, mainly the miquellan ring and the tower arcs so now your dex investment gets rewarded. So go figure if they realized they messed up with the lightning weapons of the base game. Elden Ring is far away from being balanced. But that's how things are.
At high levels of faith and dex, the classic Keen Guardian Swordspear with electrify armament gives some pretty insane damage as an alternative to the DKLH axe, but if you've got some str to spare then the axe's skill is really fun and satisfying to use
Yep I’m level 250 I have 75 Dex and 80 faith and I use the guardian sword spear. I use wild strikes and electrify aramanent and the dragon cult infants. A light attack after applying the lighting buff to my weapon does 1100+. I plan on changing my ash of war soon to something else that does more poise damage.
The real problem is that they didn't do "Flame Art but Lightning." Yeah, Faith already has 3 elements, but Lightning has always been associated with Faith in past games, so them making the Lightning Infusions scale with Dexterity and changing nothing else about it is really awkward. This is why Holy really needed to be both Faith _and_ Intelligence and not primarily just Faith with some optional Hybrid stuff on the side, it's the Dark replacement and thus needs to function like Dark to maintain design cohesion, the "Quality build" of not-Physical damage. Sacred replacing Lightning as a Faith infusion just doesn't work. And it's not like they didn't throw Intelligence builds a bone, Cold scales with Int (which is your primary damage stat) and also Dexterity, which is the stat you (for some reason) need for cast speed. EDIT: Forgot to mention that combining Miracles with Pyromancies was also not a good call, Fire was like Dark in that it scaled with both Faith and Intelligence, changing it to be purely Faith or purely Strength is fine but not when you are also making Dark purely scale to Faith too, that only leaves a bunch of half-assed Hybrid stuff, like it's a bunch of random junk.
"Let's make the strongest DMG type the one that scales spell and bow SPD AND also make it do the sAmE DaMaGeS!!!" He even explains the reasoning to you ppl in the video....
Yep! Same heavy attacks as the Crescent Moon Axe and Godricks Greataxe. These heavy attacks give you much more reach and a horizontal cleave, good for dealing with groups of enemies!
I prefer Flowerstone Gavel/Dragon Communion Seal with an offhand Gravel Stone Seal combo for a lightning build. And Rakshasa armor for damage/poise optimisation(of course it is, you can put this anywhere).
I did a run with both weapons on ng+ and for ash of war, the twin axes are better, you can get much more damage with the sucessive attacks talismans and tear, shard of alexander and the scorpion charm while the longhaft is only the scorpion charm, shard of alexander and two handed talisman. Now for bosses i tested both and i think i only prefered to use the longhaft on bayle and promised consort, while the rest was the twin axe, and yeah i agree it's more of a ash of war type weapon but elden ring resumes to that, and i think it's more stylish than the other. But overall, both weapons are good, they don't need a buff, and everyone should try a build with them, it was one of my favorites.
amazing vid as always :) btw i was wondering. 1.15 was mostly bug fixes but has there been any other changes too with that patch? since you know FS likes to change things without mentioning them in the patch notes
Treespear has base holy damage, which means your damage type will be split 3 ways. It will work better with this combo I covered in one of my older builds: th-cam.com/video/98zZC51kXm4/w-d-xo.html
I imagine at higher levels (like 200 plus) going high dex and faith is probably best, no? You can then run keen infused weapons and lightning armament with an 80 faith setup to get the most damage.
If we're talking PVE, Flowerstone Gavel in the back pocket is super good, just for the debuff alone - slap the Outer god talisman, or just put 5 points into arcane and you're good to go. Honestly, even if you took those 5 stat points out of Faith, you'd still end up with more damage. Until it got bugged during the last patch, it used to reduce lightning negation by 23 or 30% (when changerd). Yes, T H I R T Y. But even now that it uses the pvp values, it's a decent 17%. For exploration it's an irrelevant little thing, but for boss fights it's big stonks. The debuff is super good, not sure what imp possessed Chrightt.
0:11 Why is that the case? Because goofballs made Lightning the most overpowered, elemental resistance ignored mechanic in every game prior. They had to do it eventually.
Lightning is supposed to be seen as a pure form of elemental damage. The magic is just there to give alternatives to fire spells but for weapons lightning infusion is basically your "i dont want to mess with buffa" ability. Otherwise you get any sword infuse with physical probably quality if it wasnt trash and buff it with literally the best weapon spell buff in the game electrify armament. If you really want to go pure though use the body buff so while you exploit the fuck out of an element you also make youreself super vilnerable to that element for an unsuspecting enemy.
Shocking amount of comedy in this one! Build was LIT, as always, Chrightt.
🤣 Glad you like the touch!
the lack of a dex seal has always baffled me
dex affects casting speed so it would be an overkill if you could have both damage and speed without any drawbacks

Frenzied Flame Seal is the only one but totally worth using imo

Literally the build my dlc playthrough turned into lol. Good stuff
This lightning damage is the least cohesive of the damage types. It could've been the fire of dex builds, smh.
Yeah, wonder why there's no Thunder or Storm infusion which gives us the Faith scaling Lightning damage from DS2 and DS3

Sad that the DLC didn't give us:
A proper dex or dex/faith seal
A faith katana
A magic great hammer
An Arcane crystal tear
Or a frostbite exultation

Great stuff, Chrightt!
Any chance you'll do a Smithstcript build? I wanna chuck some spears / shields / hammers / whatever at my foes.

Why doesn’t the ash scale to faaaaiiiith
Since I'm only using the weapon I went the route of 54 str and 40 faith
Why not add flowerstone gavel for the debuff? Or am i misremembering how that goes with lightning stuff?
That one has arcane requirement and scales to arcane for a fairly weak debuff. Not really worth even the FP.
