You need to start fruit trees now. It takes several years for them to bear fruit. Also hey yourself a garden spot plowed up. Start simple. Potatoes, carrots, parsnips, onions, etc. get strawberries and raspberries going too. Will save you tons of money, and give the kids something to take care of. This is from a North Dakota farm girl. Mom did not get much from the grocery store at all.
I have been disappointed with the ground beef at Costco as well. Lots of hard bits and not much flavor at all. It’s just 2 of us but I’m considering splurging on an order from a farm that sells online when I have freezer space. I think it’ll be worth it
Sarah, not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but be sure to freeze those raisins for a week before you store them on the shelf. We love Azure's raisins and buy them in the 10 pound box, but once we had little bugs hatch while they were in a glass jar on the shelf. Now I always freeze them ahead of time before storing. Love the super-frugal and healthy haul! 💕🥰💕🥰
@@DiannaGrable-fm8jd Dianna, I've been watching them for YEARS! I love their family! Sarah even helped encourage me when we first started up our family's channel. 💕
It would be very beneficial for you, and anyone else that will be taking on the responsibility of milking the cows, to spend some time on a dairy farm actually doing the work, getting comfortable with the safe methods of collection and getting familiar with the equipment before you have to dive head first into your own dairy processing. From experience, I can say that there is a lot involved in the collection, and storage of fresh milk and the equipment used to gather it. We have a fridge dedicated to milk that is kept sanitized and set at the optimal temperature for storage (36-38 degrees F).
She can go over and watch Janice and Shawn from Ozark Family Homestead, they milk their cow every day. They remind me so much of Sarah and Solo and their family.
Funny but true story. I have a hard time falling asleep and have tried all the soothing music etc. I pick one your playlist and hit play all. Your voice reminds me of one of my older sisters. Your smile too. I peacefully go to sleep. I also talk in my sleep. I woke myself up having a conversation with you last week 😂 Jennifer at a country life works for me too!!
We have, over the past three years, slowly made/making changes towards a "healthier" kitchen. Some changes we have made: 1)Using greek yogurt in place of sour cream, making sure its plain and adding our own fresh fruit and sweetener. 2) Purchasing half an half with only cream and milk as the ingredients.3) Buying potatoes and making our own "homestyle fries", roasted potatoes, potato salad, etc 4) Cutting out foods and products that contain dyes. We're constantly trying to improve and evolve towards a healthier life. Love watching others trying to as well. God Bless
@@silviamagda If you strain plain Greek yogurt it gets really thick. For my family we add seasons/spices and use in place of sour cream. We have for years and we're used to the flavor.
It is such a blessing when you get to the point when you are making some of your own dairy products. We no longer buy milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta, mozzarella, butter and sour cream. We are getting ready to start making hard cheese and can't wait for the experience. I can't wait for y'all to get there too! ♥
It is a lot of work. The homesteading channels make it look easy and don’t always show the reality. We have been doing dairy for 12 years. However, it’s so good for you and when you have your OWN it is comforting! When COVID hit, we had dairy products. ❤️🙌🏻
I grew up on a farm in Indiana. We always had our own beef. I remember in college, Dad called and told me to plan on coming home because we were doing meat. The neighbors had a garage we used to cut and wrap the meat plus do hamburger. We did 3 whole beefs that day! It was for 3 families. I was so glad come winter to have "real" meat.❤
I encourage you to start a good sized berry garden. Blackberries, raspberries and strawberries all grow well in your area and will increase on their own. They also freeze well. Blueberries ate are a little trickier. Mulberries are tasty as well and easy to grow.. After your initial investment you will be supplied for many years. You may even have friends and neighbors who are willing to share starts.
As a single person living off Teacher Retirement and a little Social Security, thank you for inspiring me to use some of your shopping tricks. I started shopping once every three weeks and looking for items I love to stock up on when they're on sale. I portion out and freeze my bacon. I portion out spinach and lettuce ino air tight bags making it last days longer. I prep and wedge and seed my lemons in airtight jars and cover carrots and radishes in airtight jars. with cold water. I keep boiled eggs in fridge....with everything prepped and ready to go, I eat what I have..... so convenient... Nothing sits and spoils....I store English Cucumbers in Apple Cider Vinegar....I COOK and save money and eat healthy and don't waste food. By wedging lemons, they are there stored and ready tor fish, pasta, water, hot tea, rice, etc. rather than watching one uncut lemon go bad because I was too tired to cut it tor just one meal..
I have tried once a month shopping and it didn't end up saving us money for one reason or another. Now I try to stick with once a week grocery shopping. I also found meal planning didn't end up working for us for multiple reasons. But what is helping us stick with a budget (barely!) is just stocking the ingredients for the typical meals we do make and planning as we go from what we have on hand!
Always enjoy watching your grocery hauls. It's always interesting to see what others are buying, for ideas and inspiration. 😅 Happy Monday to the whole fam and can't wait to see more of the new house! ❤
Sarah- I know your budget has gone up, but so has everyone's budget! You are doing fantastic for your family size. You have to pick and choose what your priorities are and healthy food is a great priority. You are not overspending! Love this!
My family of 6 were blessed to take in 3 nephews during a time of hardship so with my 4 and 3 other cousins who decided to stop by Ive had 10 kids in my 3br apt for 3 days and I immediately thought of you! It’s definitely a blessing and not for the weak. We buy very similarly and whew my grocery budget just exploded. Thankfully my friend with chickens is supplying our egg needs 😂 I definitely tapped into your big family tips for the next month.
One thing just popped into my mind. If you are on a septic you should flush a teaspoon of yeast in each potty every month. The yeast really does a good job cleaning it out!
We went from $600 with 9 people up to $1600 for 9 people. Our budget went up over the past few years. We haven't gone over yet, which is great. We are doing more frozen fruits, vegetables because cans are so expensive compared to the frozen. We just do normal 1 time a month for groceries as well. Azure unfortunately for their drop off is 3 hours away. Would love to try it eventually.
Sarah, Azure carries the Lakewood products too, and I usually find they have the best price on a case over any of the stores I shop. Also, not sure if you have tried it, but Lisa's sourdough tortillas from House on Boone, are phenomenal and so easy. I made 200 in one day and had them all wrapped up in packages for the freezer. They are flavorful, pliable, and even after being frozen, were just great. I even used them as a thin pizza crust when they were a bit thicker rolled. As I rolled them out, my roomie was cooking them off on two skillets. Once a month shopping is great! We've been doing a once a month Costco run and then our Azure order. It's working. If i find a great deal at another store, I try to squeeze it in, as well, and only shop the sale. Great video lady!! ❤. Have a lovely week!
I make fresh salsa all of the time. Where I live, they have a salsa that used to be made for a restaurant. My friend, who’s parents owned the company, gave me the recipe years ago. It is as follows: Large can of DICED tomatoes, drained. 1 Tlbs of jalapeño Garlic salt Cilantro Chopped onion. In a blender, add a tsp of garlic salt, jalapeños and a few of the tomatoes. Put your blender on blend or chop and blend with turning it off and on. This will give you consistency of a restaurant salsa. Or you can blend it to chunky if you want. Pour that into a bowl. Put your onion, cilantro and a few more tomatoes and do the same off and on to get the consistency you want. Pour into your bowl. Add rest of your tomatoes to the blender, and blend. Add this to your already made mixture. If you need something more, add garlic salt. Trust me, it will work out. Refrigerate until chilled. The longer it sits, the more flavors will come out. That’s it. Cheap and since you know what is going into it, it can be 100% organic if you want. It’s so much cheaper than jarred salsas and you can add other veggies, too! Enjoy!
I go shopping on my mobility scooter, so I shop once every 7-10 days as that’s all the room I have on the scooter. I actually end up with a collapsible cooler below my legs and three or four bags hanging off the head rest and mirrors. I buy a lot of prepared food, including frozen entrees as I can’t stand long enough to make meals. So I spend between $300-$400 on food and other grocery store items per month. There is a Walmart three minutes (about a block) from my home in a large mall and a local grocery chain at the other end of the mall so I have a lot of food choices. There is a Costco in this area, but it is at least ten kilometres away, so I don’t go there. BTW, I’m almost 82, and disabled by severe arthritis and heart failure and live in Victoria Canada. 🇨🇦

Sarah ,I remember being a child, and my mother paid a farmer 50 cents a gallon . Your right raw milk is very healthy for you . Plus all the things you can do with it ! I am 57 now and wish I knew a farmer that milk cows in are area !
@@cassandrasmomI understand, but if the farmers cows are sick and given antibiotic for example and someone in your family has an allergy for that antibiotic it could lead to serious complications.
@@naomivantonder1161 In the USA, when the farmer is licensed, the state makes frequent checks on the cows and the environment in which they are being cared for. Also, you should always buy your raw milk from a trusted farmer. They are very friendly and will allow for you to go tour their farm, see the condition of the animals & ask them questions. I don’t know how this works in any other country, so I can see your point if you live outside of the US.
My husband was in the military and going once a month was all we knew. Don’t know how I did it. We used the commissary which wasn’t always close to us so it made it kind of a necessity. Love your hauls. It’s not easy to plan ahead. ❤❤❤❤

I tried Azure standard after learning about them from you. I placed two orders (April, May) and everything was wonderful. No complaints. I plan on doing an order tomorrow. Thanks!
Always enjoy watching your monthly hauls. I would love to be able to do this but it’s just my husband and myself. We do go a family owned meat market and buy all of our meats and stock up for 4 or 5 months. Everything else we buy from Walmart or Hyvee. We eat lots of fruits and vegetables so they don’t last long. This would have been great to do when my boys were younger. ❤❤
Love your shopping hauls. Growing up, my parents grew all our vegetables, potatoes, peas, corn,3 different beans, pumpkin, parsnips, carrots, turnips, tomatoes, lettuce, strawberries & raspberries We had apple, apricot, peach trees & mum would preserve the fruit for all year round desserts. Mum would also make homemade jam, sauce & relish…oh the memories
Holy moly! That milk expense! We go through about 3 gallons a week for a family of 3. I can’t even imagine buying fresh milk. My hubs drinks milk with every meal and then there’s milk for cooking. I bet you will be very excited when you can milk the cows.
You could do a garden and grow a lot of your own vegetables . Like cucumbers tomatoes. Potatoes, onions beans, peas, corn and all kinda of vegetables. While growing that's what we did. Ther was 8 of us kids.
Everyone needs to do whats best for their family, BUT i just want to remind people that raw milk and raw honey shouldnt be given to infants or immunosuppressed people
I am glad this comment is at the top. So worrying to see so many family creators like this who have an audience of primarily parents , promoting raw milk when the risks can be absolutely fatal.
@livethatlife1830 I do believe I said everyone needs to do what's best for their family. I have an autoimmune disorder and had cancer so I'm immunosuppressed so raw milk and honey could kill me. My kids were very premature so it was dangerous for them. And if we are going to go with the whole exception not rule, my grandmother who was a 3 concentration camp, ghetto, and 2 death March survivor lived to 99 and didn't have a single health issue... not even high cholesterol or BP so obviously subjecting people to horrors like that isn't dangerous to some 🙄 Just stop. I didn't shame Sarah or solo, or anyone. I said people need to do what they feel is best for their family but was just poi ting out it isnt safe for all.

I'm asking out of curiosity, not antagonism, so please don't be offended as I know so many can be. I'm wondering how you prevent milk carried illnesses like TB that are prevented with pasteurization? Is it a case of vaccination or testing of your herd? What research have you done and can you recommend any resources?
I've shopped once a month for years. I like idea staying out of the store and saving money but also I feel better as a mom when I am fully stocked. I'm also returning to pick up produce, dairy, and bread.
We do once a month shopping during our school year for our 4 boys (soon to be 5 boys!) myself, my husband, and my father in law. During the summer we do twice a month because our boys wanted to do camps, sports, and our schedule changes more often.
Sarah, try toasted Naan and spread on a layer of goats cheese and top with freshly sliced tomatoes and sprinkle with lemon pepper - a quick and reasonably healthy meal!!

I love your grocery hauls Sarah. I’ve been watching lisa’s videos from farmhouse on Boone on how she makes cheeses and butter and sourdough breads etc, it’s so interesting how they’re made. The portion sizes of groceries are huge compared to what we have here in Australia
Your grocery hauls are fun to watch. I would never be organized enough to plan everything I need for the month. I'm at the grocery store every other day to feed our small family of three, lol.
Yes, food is medicine… that is the way we do it. I have always loved the way you present food. I live be the 90/10 rule.🎉🎉🎉 I think your milk is about what we pay for our raw milk. We grew up with it. Our price is 16 per gallon for goat milk and 15/gal for cow. You get the same butter we do.
If you're getting mineral lines in your toilet from your water, a good and non toxic way to clean them is to turn the water off to the toilet and flush it and try to plunge all the water down, then pour a gallon of vinegar into it, let sit overnight, then scrub in the morning, it will usually just wipe right off without scrubbing, you can do this if it's really bad, otherwise you can use the comet or something else your comfortable with.
@@OurTribeofMany I think you had fewer children at 1200 and also you said a quarter of this was raw milk? Previously you used pasteurized? I think if you do a per person, and factor in the cost of a different kind of milk, the cost inflation won't be as much as you think.
Maybe in your new home you could grow a field of potatoes which is such a low maintenance food to grow. Pretty much plant and forget it with the exception of hilling them a couple times. Also sweet potatoes are just plant and forget for months and can store for many months in a cool place (no hilling required). Berry bushes are also easy to grow and come back year after year! Your children would probably love to help with those things!!! Such a beautiful family 💜
Hi sarah! Long time silent viewer here. I watch another mom she has a family of 8 and she shops every 8 -9 weeks! I think you would love her. All homemade. She makes sour dough tortillas you could ask her about it if you want. Her channel is ...... our small footprint on TH-cam.
For rusty water, you can use Iron Out softener salt in your softener. Helps a lot. Iron out can be purchased in spray and toilet tank cubes to keep rust out of the toilet too.
18:51 - 18:55 Never thought I see a video of yours where you use the word "sus" lol. 25:18 - Huh, I never knew you hung food from hooks like that. That's actually a pretty effective way of saving space. I should try that. As for once a month grocery shopping, I just look at the 3 main meals for the day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) and plan a list of that. I'll add little snacks in between depending on the budget.
Every time I see your grocery hauls I want to get where you are with simplified storage, sourdough, and such. I just can’t seem to wrap my head around it all. I’d love to shop less, too but produce doesn’t seem too last long for me. And I get overwhelmed with how much we need. I know you’ve talked about milk prices before but ouch. I’m your neighbor here in Iowa and we get a2a2 milk for $5/gallon and I pick it up 10 min from my house. It’s been a huge blessing!! It is $6 if you get plastic jugs instead of supplying your own glass jars.
🇦🇺When my parents lived in the outback of the Northern Territory in a place with only 27 people, mum would shop 3 monthly. She struggled a lot even though we were a family of 4. Daily Waters was 3 hours from the nearest town with a shop. We lived there for 18 months.
Great grocery haul Sarah. It's amazing how expensive food has gotten. I worry about your family drinking raw milk with all the bird flu circulating around dairies.
I can’t wait till you get into gardening and grow your own vegetables! I know, you have a lot in your plate, but maybe one day one of the children will be interested.
You get quality foods for $2000 a month. No junk, just foods that will actually fuel your family. Snacks these are crazy expensive. I went to jewel the other day and i was surprised to see the prices ! Even though I have to kids I don't buy a lot of snacks. I grew up in a household that we didn't have snacks on daily basis. We had homemade dinners, sandwiches, fruits and water or tea to drink. My mom would bake once a week and we had ice cream from time to time. When I came to USA i was shocked to see a pantry full of junk at the family's house I was working for.
A rolling pin and non stick baking mat helped me roll out the flour tortilla dough. Once you finally make one you will never buy them again! Also weighing each ball to make sure they're the same size helps.
We shop weekly for our family of 13 because we buy a lot of produce and raw milk. This year, we decided to buy a cow as well. If we had chickens, that would take almost $400 off our budget, and raw milk is worth it! We pay $14 a gallon. Do you factor in the whole cow over the months into your budget? Love your shopping grocery haul videos! Sending love from Wisconsin!
@@OurTribeofMany Oh, that would make sense. I was working out how much it would cost to process the cow rather than going to the store and how much our budget will change. Praying for Gods direction on selling and buying land. Would love to have fresh eggs and dairy cows

Make crackers out of your sourdough discard! 200 grams of discard 28 grams of melted butter and 1 tsp salt - add now whatever herbs, garlic powder, onion powder, grated parmesan cheese, or my favorite everything but the bagel seasoning....mix, and pour onto parchment lined baking sheet, spread thin and bake at 325 for about 36 to 40 mins, let cool, break apart and enjoy - if you want square little crackers - let bake for 10 minutes and then take out, use a pizza cutter to scorer little squares and then put back in the oven. I also sprinkle the top with sesame seeds, or bagel seasoning, or cheese, or flaky salt.....so good
I'm a 1x per week based on my menu for the week. But I just bought an upright freezer and organized all the frozen stuff, so this week we are using up stuff I already bought LONG ago.
I hate shopping and watching you made me buy for the whole month. I love love love it! We will have to go back maybe once but usually not. We eat whatever is going to go back first. It’s touch though! It’s just myself and fiancé and dog (I make his food) and occasional company but we spend between 750-$1000 a month! We have an almost 10% tax on food so that adds a lot to the bill. We do eat as much organic, clean ingredients as we can and I have a good size garden for my small family.
I got some questions . You buy organic milk which is grass fed so why not make butter? A little salt in the blender and voila .. butter ! Also mozzarella would be an easy fun task for the kids . Milk vinegar or lemon and fresh mozzarella. I also often wonder why with all that land you don’t even have a small summer patch to grow tomatoes or lettuce or any veggies to supplement your grocery needs.
Hi Sarah. About a year ago, you had a video on stopping dieting and learning intuitive eating. I was wondering how that was going and if it has brought more peace to you and your family and if it has made a difference in your life? I love how you focus also on having nutrition as a priority for your family. I love your videos, just wondering if you will do a follow up on the one on intuitive eating. Thank you Sarah!😊

Hello lovely family. Do you ever save the seeds from your fruit and veggies and try and grow them? Cut off the green tops of the pineapple and root the bottom in water and grow a plant, eventually a pineapple will grow. I have a pineapple, orange, lemon, avocado saplings, also mangala and ginger plant just by seeing if I can grow from seed. ❤
Hi Sarah, you can try using a pumice stone to clean the hardware residue on the toilets. Amazon has them and they come with a. handle so you don't touch the toilets. Our well water makes the toilets stain too.
Add mustard to eggs for wonderful flavor!! Also wondering if you have thought about a whole house generator for the new house? We have been thinking about getting one- it's so frustrating to lose food from power outages, and your fridges are full😳. Definitely on my wishlist. I just watched a video called "Just the Bells 10". They are currently a family of 10, which several of the older kids have moved out. Mom makes huge meals for her family and I believe she has a cook book she shares. Anyway, I was watching her video of 7/10/24 called "Weekly Meal Prep for our family of 10" where she shared her recipe for cheese crackers. They looked really good and she said her kids love them (she posted the recipe). I thought you might like to try making them, as you said the crackers you buy are quite expensive. I don't know if they eat as healthy as your family, but I thought I'd just throw this out to you in case you wanted to try making them. I love your channel and really appreciate how you make and buy healthy foods for your family.
I’ve been doing a once a month shopping for the last few years. I shop for me and my daughter. Except for a pick up, farmers market. I love it. I know what I have and plan accordingly. So times I can stretch it to 6 weeks.
I go once a month. I plan by what I'm gonna cook and I buy just that meatball meatballs. I get my meat that I need. That's on the meal plan. And then I get the things I need to go with it and make sure I have enough meals for 30 days. And then I buy all my snacks lunch meat.Cheeses, I'm dairy stuff in balk and freeze it once a month. It works great for me
I think 2000 a month is AMAZING..Especially with what your buying... You are gonna SAVE so much money just in raw milk once your cows come in to milk... Thank you so much for sharing
You should start a garden somewhere in your yard! I did my first garden this year just in a 12ft x 12 ft garden box and wow it is fun and so far I’ve got quite a good yield! The tomatoes would be fairly easy (I know you’re probably maximum busy already haha but I love my garden)
We make our own salsa in the blender. We usually use can diced tomatoes or fresh tomatoes, onion, cilantro. Add spices and the juice of a lemon. It is like the salsas from the restaurants. It doesn't last. Lol.
I’ve been ordering from Azure for around 30 years and I just started comparing prices between the thrive market app and Azure and found many things cheaper on Thrive. Example is organic whole turkey is about half price on Thrive! I can get a lot of meals out of a whole organic turkey for 49.00!

These are one of my favorite types of videos to watch
Funny but true story. I have a hard time falling asleep and have tried all the soothing music etc.

God Bless
I don't understand the first one. Greek yogurt and sour cream are different things.

Do the lemons last longer doing that.
Happy Monday to the whole fam and can't wait to see more of the new house!

It is as follows:
Large can of DICED tomatoes, drained.
1 Tlbs of jalapeño
Garlic salt
Cilantro
Chopped onion.
Enjoy!
Yum!!!
I love watching your grocery hauls. I would love to shop once a month but I am the caregiver for my 94 yo mother and she loves to shop.

So explain how my grandmother lived the old-fashioned way and lived to the age of 89 and some of her siblings lived well in their 90s?
@livethatlife1830 I do believe I said everyone needs to do what's best for their family. I have an autoimmune disorder and had cancer so I'm immunosuppressed so raw milk and honey could kill me. My kids were very premature so it was dangerous for them.
And if we are going to go with the whole exception not rule, my grandmother who was a 3 concentration camp, ghetto, and 2 death March survivor lived to 99 and didn't have a single health issue... not even high cholesterol or BP so obviously subjecting people to horrors like that isn't dangerous to some 🙄

Everyone buys what is best for them. Everything in moderation.

Every time I see your grocery hauls I want to get where you are with simplified storage, sourdough, and such. I just can’t seem to wrap my head around it all.
