I never listened the music of Ute Lemper, I'm from México, and I understand something: when the music its good, the language don't care, the music its a universal language. I saw the concert of Ute in my city, Monterrey, and was extraordinary.

This is Great! Don't hear the German version very often. Nice to hear it the way it was supposed to be sung.

Lotte Lenya's voice and performance go along with Weil's music. Brava!

@ntrimm: Well, a bit of original history wont be bad. It was written in german in the 20s, so in that time they sung different than today, maybe you can imagine it. hm? so thats the original style in that time in that context, if other stuff turns YOU on, its not the fault nor of history nor of anybody else....

@twlthteg Not to mention the dissolution of German politics prior to the war which is culpable for the destruction of many vectors German culture. Die Dreigroschenoper was such a vector, its survival due only to foreign preservation.

Ute is careful to not sound like Lotte.

@daftrhetoric True, true. I understand where you're coming from. I just wish they could have left it more or less alone and translated it as it was written.

@golfr10under Typical American. The original Was in German before it was sanitised in the 1950's for a notoriously puritannical American market. Managed to totally ruin it along the way too. Thanks a lot.

    Bizarre video...

@twlthteg The original version performed in German is much better. That being said do not try to typify Americans, our population is too large, our demographic spectra too broad, and our philosophic heritage too deep for simple classification with fidelity.
America has a population of ethnic Germans sixty-two per cent that of Germany proper. This is a fact that oughtn't be forgot.
