    A marshmallow meteorite hurtling straight toward Earth?
    How would this sweet space object begin its descent toward our planet? Would the rapid speed of 99.9% of the speed of light, which is 299,792 km/s (186, 282 mps), cause the marshmallow to disintegrate in mid-air?
    What would happen if a marshmallow traveling at light speed actually made contact with Earth?

    No material object may travel at the speed of light. Now, if it was going 99.9999% of the speed of light, it would have so much force as to plow into the Earth, displacing matter dramatically. The sound would resonate long after the actual entry. The resultant ground effects, such as tsunami, earthquake, and lightning, should also be memorable.

    • @an0rangutan
      @an0rangutan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mean, the premise of a "what if" questions demands the acceptance of absurdities. Everyone knows an object with mass cannot travel at light speed, but this what if demands that we accept the premise.

    • @shiningarmour6805
      @shiningarmour6805 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      A lot of people that read 99.9999% immediately think "oh it's getting close!!!" but not really.
      The concept is that it takes _infinite_ energy to reach the speed of light, so any matter, to a tiny atom? Has _infinite_ kinetic power at that point. It could go 99.999999999999999999% and more, all of it just adding *exponentially* more power behind the tiny object.
      TL;DR: If you mention the speed of light WITH mass? Just think infinite energy hitting the planet, doesn't matter what size. Your imagination after something getting hit with UNLIMITED POWAAH

    At 99,9% of the speed of light, the kinetic energy of a 7 gr marshmallow would be about 150.000 times that of the Chelyabinsk meteor. The power of the Chelyabinsk meteor explosion was several times that of the atom bomb on Hiroshima. I Don't think it will matter if it survives entering the atmosphere of the earth. These videos about light speed objects just arent that exciting (but ima still watch it tho) because we know no object can move that fast. I'd rather see what would happen if an object of w.e size hit earth at the maximum speed that an object of that size could possibly move. That way our minds would percieve it as something that could actually happen and would seem more intriguing.

    If this happened, the marshmallow collides into atmospheric particles, creating temperatures as hot as 1000+°C, the carbon meets this incredibly high temperature, the object fuses atmospheric nuclei, creating Gamma Rays, these Gamma rays knock of electrons of the fused nuclei, creating Superheated Plasma that actually Forges the Graphite, melting it into a Liquid Asteroid, this plasma is hotter than the 2 reasons, about 7000+°C due to the Extreme Gamma Radiation, eventually atomic nuclei in there in their Crazy-state, therefore the molten graphite would smash the target into a liquid and no more. Also the pressure created would be energetic to tear electron from nuclei, eventually heating the protoplasma with again, plasma. 14000°C to say the least.

    I was thinking why don't humans use the core of other planets to fuel rockets, it would make us faster, we might be able to harvest stars! All we would need is heat proof stuff Lol

    The impact would be none, anything that travels at the speed of light, it's mass has to be zero. If that's hypothetically possible then there would be no collision damage.

      corrected to 99.99% speed of light to account for mass

    It is possible that objects/mass or in space language: matter can travel faster than light. We found the ends of some most big galaxies spin faster than light. Galaxys are enormous and some are not half but tens of times greater so everything what is at the end of the long stretched galaxy moves so incredibly fast that researchers found that they break the speed of light.

    This video treats the marshmallow like an everyday asteroid or comet At Light speed models have shown 2 outcomes 1 It passes through the planetTo it destroys the planet you simply can't fathom that amount of kinetic energy a piece of sand going at light speed can take out a planet

    (Comment Reply) Yes it could if it was gradually brought up to speed. Same goes for a space craft. Structural integrity is a funny thing tho and I don't agree with the statement "the faster you go, the heavier you become"! As thrust pushes the mass forward the mass pushes back esentually gravity is created right so you now become heavier however does the craft or marshmallow actually become heavier. If you could pause time, pluck the mellow out of light speed while it retains all the physics of being in light speed, because the physics don't change when time is paused, weigh it and then weigh it again at zero speed paused or un paused. Will it actually be heavier or is it just the g force making it look that way??
