  • Another solo Wild camp trip. This time to Ennerdale. Similar to my Ill Crag route I was excited to go where I'd not been for years.
#Ennerdale is a beautiful place. The path either side of Ennerdale Water leading you gradually further into a remote part of the #lakedistrict
Pillar towers over the western side of that area with the intimidating Pillar Rock sticking out above the valley floor. I climbed this Via the supposedly grade 3 scramble named Slab and Notch route.
After deliberations about staying the night or climbing down before the rock got wet, I was offered a nice easy retreat by abseil by some friendly climbers.
Following all that excitement I then went up and enjoyed an evening above whispy clouds taking in steak, and spag bol.
The morning brought a slight inversion on the available clouds making for a wonderful mountain scene............ aren't they all ?
Thanks for watching. enjoy the hills. stay safe, stay in awe.
    John.
    ps. Disclaimer.....
Scrambling can be dangerous. Don't climb without a helmet. Don't climb above your ability.
This film, and all my others are a documentary of my trip. they are NOT a how too or instructional.

I had to not use the best scramble bits as I was either panting too loud or swearing 🤣.... Little disappointed I didn't do the drone while I was on the rock. But the offer of the abseil down was a winner.....👍

Brilliant that John. I camped up there in 2019 before I started my TH-cam channel. Think id have been ok getting up Piller Rock but no way I’d have gotten down without the abseil. Nice one. ATB - Dave

Slab and notch looks something else mind 😮. Wish I had the balls to do it. Is it really hard John?

@@danh2310 thanks for the comment.... It's a great route. Awesome rock. But VERY airy. I'd not been there for many years, and got up it fine with my pack. But definitely would have struggled if it got wet.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes it's a great area. Up from Wasdale or the way I went down is easy....or along from Gable.
