I believe that Rosenbaum was, and always will be perhaps the best Lex Luthor on any movie/TV show
Facts
@@JeffWeselyan As much as I love Henry, for me the same statement goes for Tom Welling embodying Clark Kent while simultaneously sprinkling it with the inherent moral and stoic Superman qualities that go beyond invulnerability
@@AHIMSA369 He was a great Clark but he isn't a good superman
@mojomojo2091 in fairness he never really was superman. He was a great Clark Kent though.
@@mojomojo2091 Well, he was only Superman for like 20 minutes during the whole show, so yeah
Michael Rosenbaum and John Glover were hands down the best parts of the show. Both fantastic actors and their scenes together were always standouts.
I wish the character of Lionel would be featured in the next Superman movie.
My friends "made fun" of me for watching Smallville. I was 16. They all decided to watch it one day and basically said the same thing. Those scenes hooked them in.
No, Clark and Lois were.
agreed!
I LOVED Smallville. Great show
Same. Welling IS Superman. Not even Henry Cavill comes close.
@@bogotstogoskiing i agree i was rewatcching smallville show before starts on april 26th and mine is 25th i'm 21 now
This show gave birth to the arrowverse
The actors are currently making a rewatch podcast talking about each episode of Smallville. Michael Rosenbaum, and Tom Welling. Their chemistry is great, and it's a nice dose of nostalgia. Highly recommend.
@@tjatile i agree
Not entirely sure if it was the _Smallville_ pilot or not, but I remember a line I really liked from a young Clark Kent, when asked what sort of career he was considering. He wasn't sure, but clarified, "As long as it doesn't involve me wearing a suit or doing a lot of flying..."
That is a line from Smallville. They were discussing Clark becoming an airline pilot as a career. I wanna see they were still at Smallville High
Smallville established the superspeed depiction of "you move so fast everything becomes slow". To save on budget, they had everybody stay still while making Clark normal speed, creating the illusion of superspeed.
The idea would later go on to be used for Quicksilver, Flash, etc. But the idea was first developed and executed here in Smallville.
You can love or hate Smallville. But the fact is that Smallville pioneered a lot of superhero ideas that are beloved today.
That seems kind of obvious, did they not start doing that until smallville?
I know they've been doing it since 6 million dollar man so Smallville definitely wasn't the first
the 6 million dollar man also did it
Who watched that again? Oh yeah, nobody.
@@radicalreactions1633 it was one of the top rated shows of its time on TV, but ok

Remy Zero, I believe.
Fun fact: both Tom and Michael have stated that it was Clark's fault that Lex turned to evil. By hiding his powers from Lex (while revealing them to seemingly EVERYONE ELSE in Smallville), Clark set in motion everything that eventually led to Lex's downturn. In the beginning Lex genuinely wanted to be friends with Clark and would have been his biggest cheerleader and support while Clark was learning to control his powers, but by hiding them, Lex became obsessed with discovering the truth of everything around Clark.
I disagree, This explaination was a pretext for Lex's jealousy, rage and xenophobia. Lex for all his protestations is a sociopath. He blames everyone around him for his actions. Look at his treatment of Lanna. ( Kidnapping, fake pregnancy, underage fixation) Sure Clark "could" have told Lex, but in the end Lex is a Luther and he would have either corrupted Clark or imposed upon him to use his powers in unsavory ways, thereby ending their friendship and having the same ending: Lex and Clark are Adversaries!
@@bawintermage8351 it’s the “what if” question if different things happens are you gonna end up a different person. That’s the point of the Lexmas episode. If Clark had told Lex the truth at the beginning before all the lying made Lex question Clark’s friendship could Lex overcome his demons with his fathers abuse and mothers death? But it’s also how would that change affect Clark and his journey becoming Superman.
Then you end up going into circles and then it bleeds into Flashpoint or multiple earths, universes/alternate or parallel universes. It’s ridiculous but it’s fun to ponder for any character. The flash or Batman with their parents death or if Clark had landed in Russia or found by the Luther’s ect

super facts !!! haha recently watched the series again after realizing I fell off watching it originally when starting college. Clark definitely had ONE clear shot in my opinion. but you know ..."plot"
Seriously tho this show still holds up even in 2023
I read this as I'm searching for it on streaming lol
Just finished superman and lois now I'm down a superman rabbit hole
😅😂 watched man of steel too
Best depiction of lex luthor. I would love to see Micheal Rosanbaum play this character in anything.
Getting the original actors back to voice for a new animated series sounds like a great idea as all of the actors are already grounded in their characters and can play-off each other, even though it is animated and voice acting. I wish them success!
I remember how mad I was that Justin Hartley never got an Spin-off and CW didn´t cast him as Green Arrow. For me Hartleys GA still is my favourite Live Action Version.
There is a reason for that. In an interview with Justin Hartley he explained why he didn’t do the GA show.
Because it's actually closer to how the character is SUPPOSED to be.
Grew up watching this show, some grade A nostalgia right there...absolutely loved it
Shout out to Michael and Tom's podcast Talkville. They watch and review every episode and even bring on other cast members to tell stories.
The intro was a classic
In the beginning, it was Clark and Lana. Tom and Kristin's phenomenal chemistry gave life to the show. That prom episode with mostly Lifehouse songs in the background was just perfect. Then the evolution of the characters of Clark and Lex. The show did suffer a bit transitioning from Lana to Lois but we have to give credit to Erika as well. She did well in the last 3 seasons and made her claim as the lead female of the show.
Don't forget chloe 😊
They focused WAY TOO LONG on Clana! I grew tired of that juvenile relationship after a while!
My favorite tv show of all time
This will forever be among my favorite tv shows. I absolutely love this take on the Superman mythos and Welling's portrayal of the man of steel.
I personally think Tom is the second best live action version of Clark with Christopher Reeves being the greatest
My list order is Tom Welling, Dean Caine, Christopher Reeves,Brandon

Christopher Reeve. No 's'.
Yes, I totally agree! Christopher Reeve made me fall in love with Superman as a character, and Tom Welling was excellent as Clark Kent in Smallville, which is my second favorite TV series of all time after Game of Thrones. ❤❤❤❤❤
My favorite show early 2000s. Even went to Vancouver to check out Lexcorp. And my bro ran into Kristen Kreuk and a coffee shop.
Loved Smallville.
This was my favorite show during the 2000s
When this show was first announced I thought it would be a train wreck (what's interesting about young Clark growing up in boring small town Kansas?). But I gave it a chance anyway and I'm glad I did. Such an underrated show that deserves more love.
Best Superman of alllllll time. No one can tell me otherwise. Period.
100%
This show was the start of a new superhero era in TV-format. I'll still to this day remember the themesong to be a real banger aswell!
Smallville was one of the best portrayal of Superman coming of age
And the fans get to re-live all the details on Michael Rosenbaums podcast “Talkville” the actors on this show are the best! I can’t believe how much of their life they dedicated to this series and how much happiness they still bring to their fans. Smallville is the best

Bye bye 👋
There will always be people who can't grasp the concept that costumed characters don't equal campy storytelling. How the costumes are depicted and how well the story and characters are written are more important than what clothing is worn. There is a similar group who refuse to watch animated movies and series, for very similar reasons. They seem unable to grasp the concept that the worth of the story is in the story...not its trappings.
This was a pretty good show back then
As an adult watching this show, I really enjoyed it very much! ❤😊 I miss it.
It's on HULU. I recently rewatched the entire series! So nostalgic! ❤❤❤❤
@cyndigirl418 Ohhhh good idea! We just got Hulu!

Ever since I first saw Smallville 17 years ago I felt Tom Welling gave a strong young Christopher Reeves/Superman look
Not that he looked like young Christopher Reeves but because Christopher Reeves is what I think of when I think of a live action Superman, I could believe that Tom Welling was what a potential young Superman could look like.
Both Christopher Reeves and Tom Welling bring a "kind" nature to the character that I think is essential for it to work.
Christopher Reeve. No 's'.
Great show🎉
love the smallville plot twist of how underrated character chloe sullivan/alison mack turned out to be the real life lex luthor level super villain with her nxivm cult that roped in kristin kreuk and other cast members and really put her brand on the genre❤🔥
Clark & Lana is the relstionship we all dreamed to have in high school and our early 20's. but Blark & Lois is the relationship we all yearn to have for our adult lives lol especially their cameo on Crisis, seeing them in their 40's, it was very awesome, not everyone has that same luck
That was great
Now I need to know about this animated show
Best series
The cast was stacked asf, best Lex & Lionel Luthor, best Clark Kent, best Kent Ma & Pa
As far as live action, Smallville Lionel luthor is the only Lionel, and he didn't appear in the comics to after the beginning of Smallville. Lexs father when in the comics before Smallville was named Jules.
Loved this show when i was younger it was great

favorite show of all time lovee the podcast!
I'm finishing the Smallville series.... I didn't expect Superboy to be manipulated by women who criticize him and he apologizes (mainly Chloe and Lois)...the great unknown heroine in this series was SUPERCHLOE (I'm not a big reader of comics , but this heroine I did not know).
That's because Chloe was created when they created the show. Another character the show creators, created, was Lionel Luthor.
Yes, it was a good time when Smallville aired. After September 11 people needed hope and this show embodied that. It was really the first four seasons as it became less about Smaville after that, but many of those early episodes were great.
I heard Tom Welling would have been the first TV actor to go from playing “Superman” on the small screen to the movies that they were considering Tom Welling playing Superman on the big screen but cause he never wanted to wear the tights it stopped that direction, at that time he was perfect ! Was tall had the Superman look and body build and can act when given the right script Tom Welling as Superman on the big screen would have been great to see and a Moment in history in TV and film for the superhero genre
I will Kickstart that animated series!
One of clever things that the creators of Smallville did was that they created a relationship between Clark's development as a human and his development as a Kryptonian. I liked the fact that Clark Kent could not fly until he became the Superman: he had too much (raw) humanity in him to be able to defy gravity.
LOL, that's not why he couldn't fly. And he ALREADY IS Superman when he lands on the plant, hence why he couldn't fly. The weight of the world on your shoulders kind of weighs you down.
It was my favorite show. I watched every episode.
I would totally watch the animated show. This was and still is one of my all time favorite shows. Ironically was watching smallville and misplaced my remote and watched the first episode of Supernatural my other top favorite show. One thing missed was Jensen was actually originally going to be Clark till they found Tom. I love how he still got a role AND that Jensen got Tom to be in his prequel show. Just shows how tight the cast is with each other.
I watch this till s5 i love every bit of it. Just dont have enough time to watch all of them
Smallville is my favorite of all time, the best ever show💚💚💙🧡💛
I don't think any other superhero show will go 10 seasons like this
I was only 3 when smallville first came out and I Superman was my favorite superhero and with my parents watching the show with me I saw the show in it’s entirety, I do remember when the Superman return movie came out and it wasn’t Tom I wasn’t happy as a kid. It would of been nice to see Tom on the big screen as Superman even if it was only once
Smallville was just great... a bit dragged out but great.
This show was great and the music was spot on
Smallville will always have a special spot to me.
I still remember waiting for Smallville to be aired on the TV every week with my siblings.
great show but, with the contractual limitations set on it the later seasons became more entertaining for what was changed/wrong on the show
I always remember having a huge crush on Supergirl in this
Helen slater back in the day was pretty eye catching as supergirl too
I would love to see a Smallville cartoon! DO IT!
Id love to see a live action smallville movie. Even though they damn near covered every character from the comics canon, id just love a 2 hours movie, stellar script, big budget special fx of welling and rosenbaum as superman and lex.
I really enjoyed Smallville, Lex Luther, Lionel Luther, Martha Kent and Lois Lane were all acted to perfection. Clark Kent was also done very well. I still watch it all the way through every few years or so. I think it's only rival, on the big or small screen, is the newer Superman and Lois show, which is also excellent.
The Superman suit and cape, besides spider man is the most recognized super heroe out fit there is. And I’m glad Snyder didn’t abandon it. But I get it why they wanted to put a different spin on Smallville.
i hope they gonna make smallville animated series soon because i was rewatching this show because tom's birthday is april 26th and mine is april 25th i'm 21 now
Incidentally when I saw a young version of Tom Welling in one comedy movie like that where he was an elder sibling to a lot of siblings, I just said to myself 'this guy looks like Christopher Reeve. Back then I didn't even know his name. This was way before Smallville. I think he was apt for the role.
Cheaper By The Dozen (2003).
10:10 well, we already know who's not going to be there for sure 😂
i would´ve loved a show about green arrow with hartley. or more about lex and lionel with rosenbaum and glover.
loved the show. i went into it with next to no knowledge about the characters

Looper: "Untold" truth of Smallville
All the Smallville fans: 😑😑
They couldn't have been more wrong about the suit but it's funny that other characters got their rights and "flights"....very grounded lol
Smallville was amazing series. Yes, it had it's faults in certain areas, but it overall had the best versions of Clark Kent, Lex Luthor, Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, Oliver Queen/Green Arrow and Lana Lang. Tom showed such an amazing amount of hope, strength, honor and integrity as Clark, Michael showed great cunning, deceptiveness, yet caring and longing for family/friendship in Lex. Laura had a great fierceness, sassiness, strength, had great bonding moments with Clark as well as protecting him, teaching him to fly. Justin Hartley had a great sense of humor and wise crackingness to Oliver that worked well for his version on Smallville.
I loved Smallville so much.
One of the best superhero series ever!
l remember being made rude when my brother wants to watch another channel when smallville was on...l loved and still love the show to this day
I fundamentally deny that the appearance in the Arrowverse crossover is in the same universe as the show because time and time again Clark saw what happens in a world where he has given up his powers and it’s not good. There’s no way that’s the same world, not unless his watch is blue kryptonite
While there are many noteworthy aspects of Smallville and a number of others that certainly deserve praise, Smallville’s “fresh” take on Clark Kent turned stale rather quick. Clark’s constant obsession over Lana got old by the end of season 2. The writers’ refusal to give Clark someone else to focus on or something else to do became the albatross around this show’s neck in the end. It dragged the show down so much that it marred even it’s most praiseworthy aspects.
Don’t even get me started on Tom Welling’s refusal to don the Superman suit for even just one episode. Despite the fact he got to tell Clark’s story for 10 seasons, far longer than anyone had expected. After such a long wait, fans deserved that pay-off. We never got it.
That opening no flight no tights was not the choice of the pitchers, it was DC and WB that didn’t want a tv Superman or superboy while they were trying to get a new Superman movie in theaters they didn’t want to confuse fans
I love how they left Chloe out of it
No info on Lana? She carried that show as the stand-in Lois for half the run. She should have been mentioned. At the least, honorably mentioned.
I grew up with Dean Cain as my superman until Tom came along
My favorite Tv Show of ALL TIME!! Second to none. Even to Game of Thrones
It was a great show
5:02 - I just want to point out the fact that Lex is not a supervillain. He is just a villain. He isn't super. He's a good damn villain, but not super. Remember what Batfleck said:'' Men are brave.'' So it means men can also be evil without bein super.
To me they made a superman show but everybody working on the show was shamed of the show i can guarantee if they went back and did it over they would embrace Superman more
Really explains why I never liked smallville. Got bored after a few episodes when I realized I went to watch a show about super heroes and got some drama show instead.
7:34 than a youtube tv ad💀💀💀
Nothing against Brandon Routh but not putting Tom in Superman Returns was a big big big mistake.
He was basically the flash with super strength
Best Clerk Kent !
I would love an animated Smallville
i was hyped when they teased the "Justice League" team-up. Too bad it didnt come to fruition. But still, i loved Smallville.
In season 6 I do believe? Clark goes into a mental award. And that screwed up the whole entire series for me.
Funny.. I noticed a LOT of spiritual things in the series.. The no flights and tights was ok until like season 6. Then a little dumb. But we did get to see other costumes that would lead up to the red and blue.
Turns out Lex wasn't so evil, Chloe on the other hand...
A Smallville animated series
Yes Please
My favourite all-time tv show. Michael Rosenbaum is Lex Luther in my eyes. I've loved him in his other movies as well, no matter how cheesy, I didn't realise how funny he was.
I met him at a Club I worked at in Denver long long ago. Probably 2003. Crap just writing that makes me feel old as hell now. Anyway he was there with a friend and he didn't asked to get in for free. Didn't ask for free drinks. Didn't make a fuss on who he was. I decided to ask him if I could get him a drink as I loved his work on Smallville. He said I was the only one who recognized him. Ended up chatting with him for a while. He was crazy friendly and polite. So I will always support anything he does. Good actor. Good human being.
I really hope they get a green light for the Smallville animated show. I'd love to see what happened after Clark saved the world. Make it go all the way through the birth of is kids.
I would watch the small ville animated series so hard. I wonder what type of animation they would use if it get green lit.
Since there is already a new animated Superman show about to start (My Adventures with Superman), I can't really how DC would greenlight two animated Superman shows at once.
My teen-hood show and the one I literally grew up with. Also my first mature show. I'm obsessed with it all over again and slightly obsessed with Green Arrow now. (Wearing a shirt with him on it as I write this.) It was a bit soap opera-y at times, but all in all, good action show that didn't go woke or have some agenda like other shows today. It still holds up a lot, even if the clamshell phones in it are ancient and seem useless. XD The only thing is, rewatching, Clark is as dense as a brick at times and stubborn. Oliver was cynical and wanted to go his own way at times, but at least he listened and didn't act totally dumb. Clark was just frustratingly dense and really...stringent in his beliefs. Admirable, but sometimes you gotta bend before you break. Anyway, the show had the best Lex Luthor and I made Green Arrow on Character AI. Look him up, he's pretty close if he doesn't go off-script too much. Haven't had too many adventures with him, but he's a good imaginary BF at least. ^_^
