Due to moving the camera to the landscape side, the charging magnets aren't located at the same place. Thus, the new pencil is incompatible with older iPad and the older pencils aren't compatible with the new iPad. Simple as that.

What's really whack is that the iPad mini is more expensive than a 10th gen iPad. And costs almost as much as an iPad Air, or more depending on the options.

The iPad mini has a faster chip, laminated display, more color accurate display, less reflective display, and faster USB-C port.
