- The Northstar Firebird is one of my favorites for a quick trip to the water. It is nimble and quick to respond to intentional and unintentional strokes! The Firebird will make you a better paddler. I find that newer solo paddlers are often attracted to this canoe because of its lightweight and small size. Hopefully this vid helps you see how a paddler w some skill looks in it.
I have to admit I was working off some spring rust in this video and found moves that I could do with ease in a Phoenix challenged me a bit more in the Firebird. However, they were also more rewarding and responsive.
This Firebird in the video is a Ruby Red Whitegold version. Weight is 36 lbs. Northstar can offer weights of 28 lbs BlackLite, 26 lbs StarLite, 39 lbs IXP.

WOW!!!! I REALLY WANT ONE OF THESE SMALLER "SOLO" CANOES!! IMHO: YOU OUGHT TO TRY KNEELING ON A THICK, SOFT, "CLOSED CELL FOAM FLOATATION PAD (POOL LOUNGING FLOATING PAD)!!! IT'S VERY COMFORTABLE ON THE KNEES, AND, PROVIDES ADDED BOYANCY IF NEEDED!!!

Thanks for watching. I’m using a custom Northstar Trapezoid Kneeling Pad that is very padded and features a non-slip surface underneath with a security grommet for keeping w the canoe in the event of a flip.
