    This is the practice of how to regulate or relax your nervous system to heal. Putting your nervous system in the parasympathetic state is putting yourself in the healing state so that it can process whatever ails you.

      Many people are addicted to being in fight or flight- its more of a ramped up state than a deep relaxed calmed state

    I appreciate that the body needs to shift from sympathetic nervous system, but the PTSD state demands vigilance, so when I try to relax my body it says no I need to stay alert and therefore tense.
    So I hope you can do a guided relaxation that includes creating a sense of safety in order for the body to be willing to let go.

    • @thepainpt
      @thepainpt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes ur right that’s what it does. Talk to your limbic brain you need to convince it you are safe. Use evidence and logic the prefrontal cortex needs to regulate and keep in check this amygdala that can run wild (amygdala hijack). Let whatever the amygdala creates flow and go. Let the tension unwind gradually. You need to face the ptsd symptoms from a place that confronts them with exposure and mental messaging as well as working with the emotions. Reach out if you need more help

    Great video. Interesting exercise. My legs are permanently stiff so it’s hard to relax them as you say at the beginning. Gradually my mind and body start to let go and a wave of anxiety comes up. I flush red. I just let it happen, observe it but it is weird. Then I settle gain and this evening I started to shake! Again I just observed. Finished more relaxed but I think still in a sympathetic rather than parasympathetic mode. Will continue to practice.

      I get this type of reaction it seems every couple hours throughout the day...especially when trying to relax my system. It starts with an uncomfortable sense of impending doom followed by sweating/hot flash. At times burning skin follows this. It’s such an uncomfortable response that it adds to my resistance to relaxing but I push through it hoping in time it’ll settle more and these reactions won’t happy as my limbic system trusts I really am safe. These episodes are exhausting though and I’m trying to stay as calm as I can through them! I also get them right upon waking in the morning..

    I think I would be on the couch ALL day in meditation if what you say is the answer. I already do meditating and other things but then you have Dan Bulgio saying, get off the couch and live your life as if you have no pain/damage. I'm confused. I guess do them both as I have been. I do a lot of parasympathetic inducing things and o try to live my life. Thanks for all your efforts on our behalf.

    • @thepainpt
      @thepainpt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The whole point of this IS getting off the couch. It's not what you do but how you do it. Meaning carrying an inner state of peace and relaxation while you do anything you want in the world is the key. I always tell people you can being as fast you want in life but still be relaxed on the inside. This is the practice- relax into everything you do and feel! Especially since we know with confidence from the research people with chronic conditions aren't keeping their rest digest and relax nervous system turned on

      @@thepainpt I have spinal cord damage and I don't walk well. I only walk short distances. When I walk I have neuropathic pain in my feet. I couldn't walk for 4 years now I can walk for like 15 minutes. I can not stand for long. So I can not live my normal old life and I'm scared of walking. How can I tell my brain I'm ok? Hi. Had an abreaction during hypnosis. Felt terror when feeling an overwhelming feeling of illness in me. Woke myself up after trauma.
    So I've been using self hypnosis to go into a deeper state to confront this overwhelming fear of the Ill feeling and I'm getting better but once I've felt it my nervous system is on red alert for hours days after the self hypnosis
    How do I heal this feeling?

    • @thepainpt
      @thepainpt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Call it what you want- it is shifting autonomic nervous system to the parasympathetic- then trying to do that as much as you can throughout the day- thats the key!

    Hi Jim, I am trying to heal chronic bladder condition. Finally I managed to relax my body and felt great improvement of my symptoms for several days, but suddenly I start to feel strange tingling, trembling and pulsations in my feet, arms and face. These sensations are continuing already 2 weeks. Could it be a kind of reaction of the nervous system as a result of the healing process or it is a new illness? I am starting to panic again.

    • @thepainpt
      @thepainpt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yes sounds like a reaction from the limbic brain. Just relax more deeply this will pass. The limbic brain does not trust that you are ok yet and is reacting back thinking there is still danger or a threat. By relaxing and calming you are teaching it everything is actually ok
