I am currently overcoming one of my lowest points I have faced so far and I just had to let you know how refreshing your intro phrase was to hear. I found your channel when I was in a much better place and since then I haven’t had enough time to keep up with your uploads but man hearing you say “hope you been well” really brought me back to better times. Thank you for that.
Do the wood door upgade for your garage. It looks better, adds contrast, and the extra horizontal creases may add stability to the door. Cool vid! Great content!
I like to keep tangible pictures of my wife and kids with me, especially if there’s a possibility of having to hike back home over a couple of days in a worse case scenario. Been following you for many years, definitely a fan of your content! I truly appreciate the non hysterical nature of your preparedness content. Looking forward to seeing your content with Mike Glover!
I have some bolt cutters in my rig. 19 4Runner Just went to Yosemite. A car accident had us bumper to bumper for about an hour. A guy had his tire cables for the snow all tangled up within his wheels and couldn’t drive. He was going car to car asking for bolt cutters with no luck. Thankfully I had mine. It was snowing and he had his wife an 1 year old baby with him. He couldn’t stop thanking me. Glad I was able to help.
Honestly love this kind of content. I mean its always cool to hear about Ashley and the kids but being prepared seems to be a REAL topic anymore. The world is in more of a mess than its been in a while. Being prepared IS a good thing. Thanks Mike! Good stuff!
I’ve definitely had more than my fair share of flat tires over the years, so I like to throw in a full size floor jack and an Impact that makes life easier. This is on top of the normal tools that I always have with me.
Love the load out! I also keep a Stihl battery, small chainsaw and have used it every winter season for cutting trees to push off the road in wind/ice storms.
I am a long-haul trucker and I think about this idea all the time. At any given moment I could be upwards of 2,000 mi away from my home. And that's a tall order to think. How am I going to get back home in a situation like you've mentioned. Definitely fun to think about and try to plan for. If you have any tips I would be more than happy to listen
Jonathan Maberrys Joe Ledger series is super fun. Especially if you like tactical stuff, mercenaries, horror and comic books. It has all that mixed in. The ultimate dude books. Patient zero (2009). The dragon factory (2010) the king of plagues (2011). And than theres like 5 more in the series.
Going Home series is AMAZING… have finished it and listening to it again. Really eye opening and Duke Fontaine does an awesome job narrating at 1.25x speed. Love that series
The wood doors will look busy and more repeatable pattern when they’re that big. Also you don’t want to draw attention to something that big that is busy. Another suggestion. You should consider having you lights next to your house garage doors a copper in color to tie the doors and house together. That’s what my wife suggested and she is in design for $10M + houses in the mountains.
Mike, I have been a lifelong action, sports athlete and ultra adventure athlete for years and years and years when I switched from conventional rollerskates or quads to in-line skates. I immediately always started keeping a set of skates in my vehicle as emergency transportation. They don’t take up very much space and they will get you somewhere far faster than walking or running and you can still carry a fanny pack or a backpack while skating. Just something to consider.
1. The wood doors will look super good on the barn 2. You should do a video tour of Mike’s land cruisers 3. Wives just don’t get it when it comes to half a tank of gas!! We tell them cause we care 😂
Wood look doors on the barn. Also love that you mentioned going home I’ve listened to that whole series and continually relisten to it when I need some background noise 😅
For fuel, highly recommend a shaker siphoning tube. So easy to put your jerry can on top of your Diamondback cover and let the siphoning tube move the fuel into your truck’s tank for you. Saves your back having to hold the jerry can, sometimes awkwardly, while it fills. Work smarter, not harder.
Thanks for the vid. For the garage. I would say make the largest door match your home”s garage door. It will tie them both in giving them illusion of one big giant living space. The other doors on the garage like standard doors or a smaller roll up door ol have them black.
As far as big family ground tents are concerned, the kampa/dometic wartergate 8 is awesome. I've used it for my family outings for a few years. It's huge and amazing!
Yep. I always think about it. Funny that you posted this- cousin and I were discussing this exact topic last night. I’m in an FJ and I can make right around 375 miles before I run dry in a best case. I’m east coast, and took a trip to Utah last year. I had a few things with me to help me “find” fuel to get home with, but it wouldn’t have been easy.
With the LX you can remove spare tyre and put additional tank there. With off-road rear bumper this is doable and you can add some jerrycans too. Also I've always thought Front Runner racks are superior to others as they have a lot of accessories and are very versatile.
I know you love the Apple Watch Ultra but I just switched to a Garmin Epix 2. GPS + 14 day+ battery + topo maps, I think you’d be into it. Also can’t wait for you and Mike’s video.
Yeah I had a Garmin years ago that I really liked. I like a lot of things about the new ones as well. I’ve been debating at least trying one out, and seeing if I miss any of the deeper “smart” integrations of the apple watch.
@@LastLineOfDefense I’ve had the Apple Watches since the first one. It’s honestly kind of nice not having my phone on my wrist. Plus I’m just liking the running and mountain biking tracking. Also the flashlight on it has already been used many times haha.
Bro. I just the Spec Ops tape measure in the mail today from Amazon. I added 2 of 'em to an order of cardboard mailers so I could use "pay it later." Bro, you have the best taste in EDC gear and just gear in general :D
I work for a high end builder in Florida. We were building a timber framed barn for a client 2 years ago and had the SAME EXACT PROBLEM with the garage door creasing. It took months to resolve. You mentioned the brand was CHI? If so, same brand. We determined that it was cause pad by improper handling by the installer. The panels must be carried vertically. The installers carried them horizontally. Because the doors were 14’ wide, they bounced when carried horizontally causing creases. We thought another reason was when they added the hurricane braces, they didn’t use saw horses to properly support the panel thus bowing them and causing crease. Let me know if you have any questions or want to talk more about this as it was a huge headache for us to resolve. It was on a project with 7, 14’ x 20’ doors.
Wood door might look nice to bring the whole picture of the structures together. Also consider thinking about how it will look with the smaller barn garage door being black (its black too right?). Would you get a new one for that too? Not sure if I would do it if you didn't change the other door. I don't frequent as much as I used to but love coming back to see what you're up to and enjoy your content very much. Have a fun trip 👍
I suggest for you to educate peeps about route planning to get out of your house in a natural disaster situation. Fire, flood etc. here in the mountains it is critical to know multiple routes to get out for fires.
For years I've carried a couple 5 gal cans of diesel when I was going some distance (Been harder to do since getting the truck camper). I may have to just bite the bullet and put a Titan replacement tank in. In the gas truck it's had at least 1 gas can in it during trips for a couple years. In Texas heat they do need to have the excess air burped. I have had to replace the caps becuase they couldn't take the pressure anymore. Been looking at the battery powered fuel siphons meant for gas cans. Ultimately I would like a purposely built solution for spare gasoline short of a big transfer tank. Spare jacket and boots. Clothes that you don't mind getting filthy and knee pads if you need to fix something on the truck.
The all black doors look sick especially for what you’re going for, but the wooden-looking doors would look great and match the house well. I’d say if they can’t perfect the black door then go for the wood look.
So excited with a collab with Mike glover. Watching your videos with him and his ram has inspired a lot of my superduty with the 55gallon midship replace tank. Still a long way to go but it’ll get there eventually! Heard he was re working his ram to be more utilitarian so I’d be curious to see what he’s done so far

I want to carry extra fuel in my truck as well but am concerned about fumes building up inside the truck bed underneath the Tonneau Cover. AM I OKAY STORING FUEL IN THIS MANNER OR SHOULD I CONSIDER SOMETHING ELSE. Thanks in advance.
I would say if you want to extend the range of your fuel pig while there's no power then you need to use the water filter model. you bring a water filter to use water you find along the way. bringing all the water is prohibitively heavy. your concern is that you can't extract fuel from a fuel station when the power is out. bring the pump that can be run off your car and learn how to open the holding tank access at a gas station.
In theory, yes. I don't know enough about the holding tanks, but I'd guess they are locked in some capacity, andid guess there are mechanisms in place that prevent dropping a hose down and sucking fuel out of them. Maybe you know more on the topic and could share details? Siphoning from abandoned vehicles would be easier. Easier still... Bring your own, as demonstrated in this video.
@@LastLineOfDefense I think in a grid failure scenario, you're not getting too many abandoned vehicles unless they're out of fuel? there may be parked vehicles and those would be easier to 'steal' from. angry owners could be in play. I used to work at a gas station, the trucks have the keys and so do the attendants. not everyone knows how to work them for sure. I think TH-cam could help, but honestly haven't looked into it. I do know that there are the work truck fuel tanks (usually diesel) that come with their own fuel stations. those create the industry of products that let you pump fuel from large totes (maybe something else to keep on the property), or from another truck tank etc. these pumps are basically fuel system grade electric pumps, sometimes with gas station pump handles, sometimes not. they can be run off a car battery directly, some run off other means. no siphon needed, which means you can generally do it quickly and from any position. so they can be useful for a variety of scenarios. just a thought, this is certainly a topic I have considered in the past.
