    I think your experience is very common... you grew up! I feel the military is a great choice for people that need to grow up... and figure out what they want to do. If you do not have the luxury of going to college for 4 years (which btw does not force you to grow up as much as the military)... the military is a way to see the world get some valuable job skills... such as... taking direction... being on time... and accountability. The fact that feel like you need to move on is a testament to the success of your military service life, training and experience. You grew during your service... if you learned nothing and did not grow you would be afraid to leave... the number one thing military service in my humble opinion give a person... is maturity and confidence... you can not get that anywhere else. Look back.... you have been tested again and again... physically... mentally... most civilians never know that level of discomfort ever... good job.... and thanks for your service.

      Todays military is not a place for maturity because higher ups can no longer hold people accountable without the risk of “hurting their feelings”. Currently In navy A school and being 24 around 18 year olds is beyond exhausting. Can’t learn our rate because so many classmates are stuck in the high school mindset and constantly playing around.

      Can u make a video about how an enlisted or officer can get a job in devgru as a woman and what kind of jobs are available bcz the navy website is saying that everyone is blocked. Literally the only military website that's down and Google is doing no justice. So how do u get to work in devgru whether enlisted or officer as a women/types of jobs. Please@@Gregdarez

I’m in college right now but I can’t afford the degree that I seek. And I also am looking at starting at my own business when I get older so I need to understand on how to delegate power and also understand my profession better (logistics). As a veteran, I would not recommend going into the military at this time. It seems that the military is going off on a strange journey that doesn't necessarily coincide with past practice/mission. The upper commands just seem to be doing things just for changes sake not for the betterment of the service. My first command we were like family but we pretty much worked together. My other commands were just kind of standoffish. Just my 2 cents and my opinion.

      Truth. Military is woke. These so-called leaders don't realize that politics and warfighting do not mix. You don't want service members' feelings hurt? Tell that to the enemy when they have newly captured POWs and begin to torture them. Today's military is more concerned about social reform than training to fight.

    The points you raised are genuine and very correct. I experienced the same thing while in the Navy. One of the reasons I did early exit was that the Navy did not allow me to reach my potential in any way. A particular job was forced on me versus what I wanted to do and be successful. It completely demoralized me since I hate to be held down. Talents are wasted in this way. Generally, this also makes sailors to be complacent. The micro management is at another level. In fact, you have no control over your own life. The whole system is quite convoluted, but it has its benefits too as long as you qualify for them. The choice is yours.

    • @starshockey11
      @starshockey11 ปีที่แล้ว

      Then go be an officer. But in the navy it’s not just a degree - you need an engineering or technical degree from an accredited University and be accepted into OCS/ ROTC or the academy.
      And it’s not always roses and butterflies inside the wardrooms either. Especially as a JO.

    • @dapyday
      @dapyday ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're on point. This pay disparity leads to low esteem among the enlisted members. One of the reasons I left the Navy and went back to college to study engineering.

    • @starshockey11
      @starshockey11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@dapyday the pay for officers is set at what their market value is largely. Not saying this makes officers better by any stretch of the imagination. But most 01s could be making the same or more working as a civilian right out of college. If the Navy paid them less then they would lose them to civilian careers. And it still happens all the time as you approach graduation. Tech or Aero companies offer them a bonus to cover the cost of what they’d owe the navy for backing out.
      On the flip side if you’re an 18 year old kid with zero education or experience - when you consider the cost of living, tax benefits, and pay/ extra pay its actually pretty damn good. Especially for folks that go into ratings where you attain certifications like an FAA rating, welding, mechanic, etc. Many can get out after just 4 years without a college degree and can make 65-90k per year and move up quickly without even a degree. That largely depends on the job the sailor chooses tho. Same cannot be said for a Boatswain mate unfortunately (despite how hard they work and value they add to surface ships).

    This is why you have to choose the Military Branch that’s going to meet your goal in life, get as much training out of your service and transition back to civilian world. If you are thinking about joining do your research and choose wisely. Not all Branches are created equal all have different missions.

    • @Gregdarez

  • @willielittle4720
    @willielittle4720 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    One thing I agree with on. The Militsry is not for everyone. You sign a contract for three or four years, depending on the branch you chose. With that contract, you've agreed to bid by those rules and honor your contract. If you find out doing this time, it's not for you. Then don't reinlist, get out, use that discipline, skill set too stat a new career in civilian life. You mention PROS and CONS. You mention the PRos were much better for you. However, the CONS did not set too well for you. Remember you were under a contract, and yes, in you were subject to be on call, deployed, doing so whatever the military deem necessary. I doubt you Captian were making up things to do or just willy nilly taking a ship the size of an aircraft carrier out to sea to help out other units without proper authority. I gather from the video I watched you benefited greatly from having served. Whatever your decision is, I wish you well. "THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE" #thirtyyearsusausaf

    I was stationed at Keflavik Naval station for a year, long time ago. I was in the Air Force. I will tell you that the Navy has much better food than the Air Force. The Navy takes care of their people much better than the Air Force did. When I went back to the States, if someone got injured or sick the Air Force, they would just give that person a Medical Discharge and kick them to the curb. So much for free medical.

  • @TreyBeSpittin
    @TreyBeSpittin ปีที่แล้ว +3

    When I was in the military, I did experience some good as well as some bad hell. I even made my own mistakes, which got me separated.
    But the MOST important thing I've taken from my military experience is true GROWTH, as well as learning what my purpose really is in life.
    Don't get me wrong, the navy itself I don't have a problem with because big navy upped my financial situation, but the people in the service are always what makes or breaks anyone's experience.
    I used the navy as one hell of a stepping stone. Now I'm back here in the civilian world, grinding chasing my dreams, and I'm comfortable. I needed to be put back in the driver's seat of my life because now I'm fully prepared to succeed.
    Everything happens for a reason. I really value my freedom, but I needed to go through that experience to learn more about myself.

Do not care what your fellow shipmates think of them (questions). Ask questions! You can even ask questions during the exams. They will not give you the answers but they can "rephrase" the questions. Which can help you get to the answer. I am in the Navy Reserves and love it.

    I'm a veteran. I would personally advice against it. UNLESS your about to graduate high school, no way to get started in your adult life. It can be a good stepping stone into adulthood financially. If your smart. But the way things are in society now, no way. It's strange times right now and it's found its way into the military. We're are struggling. But the pay and benefits don't justify it the sacrifice. Go work 2 jobs if you got the hustle. You'll see 3x more money. The military isn't what it use to be and lost alot of public support too.

      I left the Navy as a deck seaman ,the same way I entered. Went to Grambling State University, Air Force R.o.t.c and four year later commissioned a second Lieutenant ,M.O.S. Combat Controller. No other branch does undesignated personnel, you wear the uniform and do manual janitor job. I'm left the Air Force 100 percent disabled as a Captain . The Undesignated Apprentice program does not allow that sailor to meet thier full potential. My advice wait until A school opens up before you enlist.

    Was in the 80s as aASE . It was ok but if you get a jerk in charge of you with a ego they can make your life hell, there’s no quitting you just make it threw everyday. Also the rate thing sucked went to A school which was hard for me and it took me 3 years to make E4 then the job opened up and people that didn’t even go to school made rate faster then myself and others. So if anyone is thinking about joining you can count on nothing except a little pay and 3 meals , think about it.
