    Nice job. One note, pilots never call it the steering cue, rather Sherm (as in Sherm the Sperm). Also, never really called the DCS switch, rather it's termed the dobber switch... as in dobber down, dobber left, etc.

      Hey, Wags. I've got a question you're probably the best person to ask to, if you don't mind: How is the current develompent state of the "short" and "long" HOTAS switches pressing? Are the "Long" commands implemented at the moment? Any estimate?

    Thanks for the info, I didn’t know this, I’m too old I guess. So, instead of chasing clouds, now I’m going to be following lines. Man, I love DCS and the F-16C, but what I love the most is the people who dedicate their knowledge and their time to try to impart some of that knowledge to us, the unwashed!!! A million thanks to you, my friend, and to the many like you...

    Regarding ETA and Time to Steerpoints. The F-16 has some REALLY cool features you can use in the DED for estimating and calculating your navigation and flight plans. If you press the number 5 "CRUS" key on the ICP, it will give you various functionalities for you to estimate, for each individual steerpoint of your flight plan (or markpoints you add them on the go).
    The default screen of this menu will present you the selected steerpoint (highlighted on the top-right corner of the DED, as usual) and it shows you, in order:
    System: The current time of the day;
    DES TOS: Designated Time On Steerpoint (TOS), according to your flight plan;
    ETA: Estimated Time of Arrival (small observation here: this counter will NOT give you ETA in the usual format like, for instance, "1 minute and 30 seconds remaining", instead it shows what time of the day it will be when you get to the steerpoint), estimating it based on your current speed and course deviation;
    REQ G/S: And last but not least, the Requested Ground Speed you should be flying to get to the steerpoint precisely at the Designated Time On Steerpoint.
    If you then press the "Seq." (the "d-pad like switch" for the ICP-DED interaction) while in the first page, it will then display the second page with some useful feature of this function: The Range function. This will estimate for you what your Fuel State is gonna be when you get to the selected Steerpoint, if you maintain your current speed, throttle state and course. This is EXTREMELY useful for predicting when it's time to RTB.
    And if you press the Seq. again, it will give you the same information, but instead of referenced to the selected Steerpoint, it references to the "Home" airbase. And this function also provides you recommendation for optimal altitude for fuel efficiency purposes, which makes it an even better option for RTB.
    If you press the Seq. one more time, it will give you a function that estimates, based on your current throttle state, how much time you have until you reach Bingo Fuel. Pressing Seq. again, will go back to the first page of this menu.
    So there's some hype for when this is all implemented, I guess. =)

    GPS is more accurate than INS, especially over time (as INS accumulates error). GPS however is easy to defeat/jam.
    The bearing pointer will take you directly to the waypoint/steerpoint but that direct-to course may not be aligned with the course line that joins the two steerpoints. So, imagine if you overshoot the steerpoint 2 by a few miles and then turn to steerpoint 3. If you follow the bearing pointer it will take you directly to steerpoint3. So, you can bug that direction and turn toward it. The CDI is slaved so the HSI CDI will indicate how far off the course line joining the steerpoint 2 and 3 you are. Turning the OBS won't change the deflection of the CDI but it's best to turn the OBS to the course joining 2 and 3. You then have to do a little mental math to figure out how much turn and in what direction you need to make to center the CDI to intercept the course between 2 and 3, and once the CDI is centered your bearing pointer and heading should be the same. You can then bug that and adjust for wind as you zero in. That's the real difference between flying 'Direct-to' and 'proceeding on-course' (ATC doesn't even make the distinction IRL correctly most of the time). In any case "Direct-to" is following the bearing straight to the steerpoint. On course is turning in and intercepting/centering the CDI on the HSI. This is all much simpler with a drawing :)

    Thank you! I don't know if it had been asked, but ain't the course indicator showing the selected course that goes in- or outbound to the selected steering point and not just the direct course towards it? Like, when you select a course of 90° you approach the stpt on 90° radial inbound? Or doesn't it work like that?

    So im not sure if this is a bug or not but there has been a lot of times ill punch in the steer point in say 1 and im using the correct lat long coordinates and elevation and when I take off it will be in the middle of no where. Sometimes if I punch it in again it fixes it and in one server it never would work. is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

    Are steepoints and waypoints the same? I'm having a difficult time trying to wrap my head around this. I am using some PvE missions that I've downloaded, and notice that on my right MFD it shows a diagram with lines and dots. I'm assuming these are the locations of enemies that I need to fly to in my mission. How can I setup the F16C to automatically get me to the next waypoint?

    • @johnnyhouligan9879
      @johnnyhouligan9879 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm no pro, but I believe steer points, way points, are the same thing. Consider them checkpoints to a pre planned route that will lead to your mission area or whatever you have set up. Regarding your last question, the answer is the part where Cap turned the steer point setting to from manual to auto. Only that it should have changed when it didn't .

    An easy question. Why if I select auto in the waypoint mode it doesn't change with the next when it reaches the waypoint I'm Flying to? Only thing happening is that it indicates me that I getting far from the waypoint I left, obviously, but don't change to the next one. It's a bug or I'm forgetting anything?

    I think what DCS truly needs is a 34" TOUCHSCREEN 1440p monitor.
    I play on a 34" Alienware Gaming monitor and the game is fantastic. But these buttons and dials are horrible to manipulate with a cursor.
    Imagine a multitouch enabled gaming monitor.

    • @fenny1578
      @fenny1578 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I play DCS on a 60" 4k monitor with a IR touchscreen overlay that has 10 point multi touch. They make them for smaller monitors, but I can tell you from personal experience that it's not so simple. Left clicking and scrolling are actually really easy to do, but anything that requires a right click slows you down (because you have to hold your finger over the click target and wait for the little touch circle to become a square.) Otherwise, as long as you keep things to left clicks/scrolling it is an honestly fantastic experience.
      The multitouch isn't really useful in any way, dcs only really picks up one click at any given time, but it's nice to know I can do multi touch for other things.
      I use Track IR as well and the two don't interfere with each other in the slightest. The whole thing just attaches to your monitor bezel and plugs into a single usb port. You don't even have to touch your monitor (you kind of shouldn't unless you like cleaning it a lot.) 7/10, fun and useful toy to have for some dcs modules. 10/10 for when I'm not in dcs and want to stand and do stuff tho (like click on youtube videos.)

The f16s systems do not detect the “reload” after you’ve depleted the weapons. So the jet is rearmed. However the sms still reads zero and nothing will launch. I’ve looked everywhere I can.
