Hey reflected, please see above comment regarding making your crew chief adaption available to all viper pilots other than in your latest campaign please 😉
@@Rogeroverandout61 it's about a 100 lines of triggers built into the mission. It's only 'available' if you play that given mission, it's not possible to 'take it out' of there as a separate entity. Bogey Dope has something similar with Voice attack though, that's not tied to the mission file.
Love it. Obviously doesn't get more realistic than a real F-16 pilot using actual video of the startup procedures on the right from his crew chief : ) Thanks Carbon for your effort on this.. Looking forward to other tutorials from you!
Very nice. I really enjoyed that. I'm going to play it back and start up right along with you. Just got the Viper a couple of weeks ago. Just now getting to mess with it. Thanks for the effort in making and posting this vid. Much appreciated.
just brought F16 in DCS and this video is super helpful ,thank you for sharing the real procedures i appreciate your effort , for sure i will watch the rest of the videos in your channel , Thank you Carbon
Hi. Great video. Can you do a realistic use of exterior and internal lights and the meaning of the control panel positions. What to switch and when. Before start, start, taxi, takeoff, cruise, entry into combat, exit etc. Whatever isn’t classified.
@@Carbon_715 just could not find much info. I know in commercial aviation the anti coll only flashes and is on from start of engine till after shutdown and strobes only flash. On when entering runway for takeoff till departed runway after landing. But the f16 has so many different modes. Hope you’ll consider it. Thanks
I could do a video on this. I won’t describe the switches here since those are in the manual(s). In general, stationary, you’ll want strobe OFF, position lights bright/steady, taxi light off. Moving: Taxi light on, strobe on, position lights bright/flash. For a time, US F-16s needed to be in position 1 strobe on the ground or risk overheating the power supply. I don’t know if this is still the case. So position 1 on the ground. After lineup, turn taxi light off in reverse order (4, 3, 2, 1) when ready for run up. Cleared for takeoff, taxi light on in reverse order again. These are non verbal signals. Airborne, lead could use position A, or 1…and wingman use their position number (2, 3, 4). Also, lead can use position lights flash, wingmen steady. Joined up, wingman can “control” / request lights for their element lead as appropriate. At night, Lead should turn their strobe off, unless the wingman needs it. This reply is too long already to go into “combat” configs (CLOAK, DARK CLOAK) or NVG covert options…. Hope this helps.
Great tutorial! Thanks. I was wondering where can I find a good "baseline -1 checklist"? I am just starting out with the F-16 and like to do realistic startups. It helps me understand the systems.
i didn't get the brake movement procedure, can you please explain? Also probe heat on? i thought probe heat stays always as it is (auto) and starts heating as soon as the jet takes off, we only set it on 3 mins prior taking off and that's only when we expect Icing conditions
Brake procedure is to check a side (left) by engaging brakes and watch the brake stack actuate on the ground. Then engage the right brake and the brake stack should not actuate...if it does there is a likely issue with the brake control. As for probe heat, again another local checklist that varies depending location. In theory it should turn on when weight on wheels is off, but test should be done irregardless. Icing conditions probe heat and engine anti ice would be on, from auto
7:30 Why did your HMD lag like that? I mean that it's not fixed to the center of the screen, but moves off and then comes back to centre. I really dig the effect, like some holo sights in arma.
this is great info, love it. working on a crew chief plugin that's independent from mission scripting (so it runs on any mission without changing it). I have a detail question: say you do left brake check. "movement - no movement". how is the timing here, do you immediately say "no movement" when left brake stops moving, or do you wait a few seconds? or is it agreed upon that everything is done in a 3-4 seconds "rhythm"?
So originally it was supposed to be a thing to do only after it flew once for the day. The idea is to cool the turbine shaft before running again. First thing in the morning it's cool already. Well it just became easier to do it Everytime instead of worrying if the jet flew that day already and remember to do a 60s motor. Back to that shaft, if it wasn't cooled it was very possible to warp, potentially causing catastrophic failure. This was something eliminated in the GE motors and Pratt 229s
Thank you for responding! To me, the warping seems like a design flaw. I never heard a similar thing at any other fighter jet. It does sound logically to always wait 60s to prevent mishaps.
Curious what the FCR BIT screen looks like. Do you know if any videos exist of it anywhere or if there is an unrestricted manual page that describes it?
Hmmm id have to look, nothing too crazy but how it's set up( sensory relative to my head) definitely influences it. I play real up close to a 42 in OLED so the sensory is pretty high up above my head so my curves may not work for you
So bring up your comm menu with whatever key you have assigned. Find ground crew and then there should be an option to place or remove chocks. I wish this was ultimately an option you could check in the DCS options to default to this
Thanks for your answer, it is working now- had problems with the key mapping. But there is no ground crew (people) visible- do I have to add them manually in the Editor? How do I activate, that I can hear there voice? Thanks!
Good luck and fly safe. I've been playing since before it was called DCS and I'm still here. It's a wonderful experience BECAUSE of the learning curve ;)
You seem to have skipped C&I UFC/Backup switch, leaving it in UFC before engine start. Is the radio backup panel still controllable at this stage in the real jet with the switch in UFC position, is this automated?
That's a very good catch, no you cannot adjust the backup radio in UFC. It will however receive on the last freq or preset. The backup radio should display REMOTE in the event of the C&I in UFC and not a freq.
Awesome, thank you what a great video to give an insight into the correct start procedure. I hope reflected decides to do the crew chief start procedure for the Viper as a mod not just for his campaign, I’d gladly pay for it it’s awesome. Thanks for the work you do within DCS sir 🫡

This video almost put me off flying my F16! Mainly because I'd of never of gotten it off the ground!
I love this! Thanks for getting the side by side Carbon!
Yeah I thought it would be a cool and unique touch
Excellent work@@Carbon_715
Thanks
A goldmine of info for Viper fans, I’ve been looking forward to the video!
I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Cool to see you down in Tucson, I was stationed at DM and when I retired worked at the boneyard. I worked with a lot of old guard guys.
Yeah I know a few that adventured over to AMARG
Nice, didn't know the parking brake was related to the throttle position, I'd just assumed it was RPM connected. Learn something every day :)
Glad to impart some knowledge somewhere!
Wow I didn't realize that either. I figured the hard push from the engine switched it off lol
I thought it was a bug😂
Nope :)
Love it. Obviously doesn't get more realistic than a real F-16 pilot using actual video of the startup procedures on the right from his crew chief : ) Thanks Carbon for your effort on this.. Looking forward to other tutorials from you!
Thank you, but I'm a crew chief :)
@@Carbon_715 Ahhh this whole time I thought you were the pilot! Still cool!
Nope! But thanks!
You forgot the part where your ground guy chills under the bleed air to stay warm
Subbed! From Shaw with love 🤘🏻
They don’t do that in AZ lol
Very nice. I really enjoyed that. I'm going to play it back and start up right along with you. Just got the Viper a couple of weeks ago. Just now getting to mess with it. Thanks for the effort in making and posting this vid. Much appreciated.
You're welcome, I'm glad you enjoyed this.
Thanks Carbon, I've styiding the DCS F26 for the last 4 months, this add a lot of knowledge and immersion. Nice touch with the side by side view.
Appreciate it!

definitely going to save this video on my list to watch it over and over again. So much useful informations! thx
Glad it's of use!
Block 50s have the F110-GE-129; Hot start is an FTIT of 935C. The FTIT gets scary close in DCS lol. Almost like running a pickled motor.

For night ops, that is correct
Awesome thank you , EXTREMELY HELPFULL as i am starting out on dcs your videos will definetely help me through .😃👍
Glad I can help!
no redballs my immersion is broken lol. good vid
🤣

I'm sure they are out there somewhere, as to where, I never really bothered to look. Each being location specific.
I definitely thought that was your buddy on another screen on the bottom lol. I need to go to bed
All good!
Just what I was looking for...THANKS!

5:51 I do believe that is a bug . it also happened to the a10 a few patches ago.
I hope that's the case with the sim
Saving for future use. Thank you.

It was a hiccup of using obs to record, frames were probably not aligning correctly giving that skipping effect. It's always smooth on my end

You're welcome
Awesome, subbed!
Awesome, thank you!
Now try the start up procedure in falcon bms
How come?
Very cool. Thank you Sir!!!
You're very welcome
Can you (or someone else) explain to me, why the P&W engine needs to run 60 seconds on the JFS before initiating fuel flow?

This is PERFECT! Can you do this for the F/A-18-C Hornet? This would be soo nice!😍
I'm not even remotely as familiar with the hornet as I am with the viper so probably not.
@@Carbon_715 too bad😕
Nice info, thanks for this :)
No problem!
Great video!
Thanks!

I haven't looked so I'm not sure.
whats that map? can you send me it
We need that in check list in dcs
I believe Reflected's Kola Campaign will have it
Is the 50% off first purchase gone ?
No idea
Do you actually store the streamers inside the gear compartment? At 15:22
Yes and they are attached to various safety pins
Thank you!
You're welcome
How common is it to use stored vs norm ins alignment?
Not very as it's not a true EGI alignment modeled in this year/version of EDs viper
Hi Carbon, any chance of a link to the army crew chief mod please. 😬👍

Wow!

dude, you don't explain half the stuff you're doing in this video
Thanks for pointing that out, however, can you elaborate?

Got the game 23rd Feb 2024 quit game 25th Feb 2024
aren't we going overboard with the realism? this whole thing about the datalink and GPS time is unwelcome IMO... we already had to align
Imo, no. That's what separates DCS from the rest. You can choose to do it correctly or there's work around not to.
thanks man this was sweet, B.Dope was kind enough to tell us about your channel, subscribed
Thanks for the sub!
"nuclear consent" fuck me running 😭😭😭
Thank you for the great video. Now i just have to buy another notepad so I can write everything down.

Generally they are not visible. You should be able to hear them with aircraft power
Now do real life maddoging of Fox 2 tutorial next to flight members
Im new to this dcs thing and trying to see what its all about. I like the realism. You seem familiar with the viper.
Pretty familiar 😁
Good luck and fly safe. I've been playing since before it was called DCS and I'm still here. It's a wonderful experience BECAUSE of the learning curve ;)
It's truly great how far we have come
I'm wondering if being an ag pilot might actually hurt me in a sim. I always flew a lot by feel and sound and this will be very different.
Awesome. Thank you

It's pretty complicated I think.
