I just got all three of these parts on Rock Auto for $75 shipped to my front door if anyone is looking for a cheaper price on a 25 year old truck.

Nice real-world video. I have just a little more play than I would like in the steering on my 2001 Sierra, and it does occasionally have a clunk when hitting a bump in the road. Otherwise, it is in excellent shape, and always shedded. I took it to a shop where they charged me $400 to change the inner tie rod and align. They couldn't find anything else wrong, but there is still the same amount of play when driving. It is hard to determine the source of the looseness even with my wife moving the steering wheel back and forth. I have tightened the gear box and the steering feels tight from the gear box to the steering wheel. I do see the idler arm move slightly when I have one wheel up but can't say for sure that the ball has any play. Maybe I am expecting too much out of the old truck but sure would like it to drive like a new one. And there is that occasional clunk. If anything, the driver's side wheel seems slightly more responsive than the passenger wheel to the steering wheel. Any thoughts?

If the idler arm, bracket arm and pitman are tight another clunk area is the control arm bolts. Changed several already. The adjuster bolt gets worn and causes those symptoms too. Look for shiny areas near those bolts meaning they would be moving.

I have an 05 suburban 2500 with the 6.0. Ive replaced all front end parts except the lower control.arms. ive even went through 5.gearboxes and 3 power steering pumps. It still wander going down the road at any speed. I have had this vehicle going on 5 years and its our long haul vehicles. Im getting tired of working on it and could really use some good advice.

Tire sidewalls too soft? Swaybar bushings worn out? Also if the caster angle is off, it could do that too (alignment)

Hey Ray, just replaced idler/pitman arm and tie rods (both sides), but there's still a bit of play up through the tie rods. Causing vibration at highway speeds. Steering box? Thanks.

Did you replace both pieces of the idler? (Idler arm and bracket). If so, I would suspect tire balance or bent rims possibly. Usually a garage can check the steering linkages for free or cheap for you

@@RayofallTrades hmm, no just the arms. Tires and wheels balanced and rotated recently.

@@bandjolyn consider changing the idler arm bracket. Those trucks are also notorious for control arm bolts. They're called cams because they are offset for alignment. But they wear out

So i just replaced all the components. Up front on my 03. Drove it about 60 miles. Done great. Then i got In it yesterday and all of a sudden it wouldn't turn to the right. Long story short. I just replaced the power steering pump and high pressure line. Because it's been whining for some time now. But that did not fix it. Now I'm stumped. What could it be?? If i jack the truck up it turns just fine. But when i lower it. Then it won't turn to the right. If i rev my engine up it turns allot easier. Gear box bad you think?? I'm lost.

Is it a hydroboost? If so, it could be your brake master cylinder believe it or not. www.brakeandfrontend.com/operation-diagnosis-and-repair-of-hydro-boost-power-assist-systems/#:~:text=A%20failure%20in%20the%20power,the%20event%20of%20a%20failure
