I still have the vinyl copy of this album that I bought in 1984. I loved it then, still love it now. Like the man said, after all these years, it still sounds fresh. And the video is really great too. Thanks for sharing this gem
Performance is out of this world! add to that the sound quality - kudos to sound engineers who captures their performance in this quality. Everything is gelled well and sounds like a studio recording!
Incredible...is Mainieri using some sort of voltage control trigger between the vibes and the Oberheim on Pools?? Don't think MIDI was out or widespread just yet...and Eddie - OMFG. Saw them a few years later when they were guests of honor at our university jazz festival - Brecker did a masterclass the day before and a bunch of us jazz students rode back up in the elevator with him, it was like being before the guru, but he was lowkey and very chill, very nice guy. Then the night of the jazzfest, he played with our university ensemble (***I got to play bass with Brecker!!!!!***) and Steps Ahead did the 2nd half. Mike Stern on guitar had replaced Elias, Dave Samuels replaced Mainieri, and Victor Bailey replaced Eddie. Still one hell of a band. This is gold.
Wonderful band! And one can understand why Erskine was drummer at Steely Dan reemerganca early '90s. Listening to this band is such a treat; a thought just came up, what would Bill Bruford had played? Eddie Gomez bass...
Kendte ikke denne dvd live optagelse, "Steps Ahead Copenhagen Live", af deres første lp under navnet Steps Ahead.
A story. Can you get this heavy metal band and this guitarist that is a technical guy that could play anything (in a years time) and he hears/watches this. The musical world stops; new diches are spread, you cant stop it. It's me.

Si lees este comentario no es por casualidad! Dios te bendiga grandemente
It's amazing tribute to these musicians .that this music still feels so fresh almost 40 years later.
Outstanding musicians, but exceptionally mister Mike Mainieri and Michael Brecker!!

Totally amazing. So tight and tasteful. So glad these videos are still available.
Peter Erskine really shines here
One of the best live bands of their kind... Playing music, not just soloing

La época más impactante de Eddie Gomez, IMPRESIONANTE!! Que baterista Peter por Dios!!
Very nice, all masters. Very good sound too. Thank you very much from Buenos Aires.

Their organic self entitled album was so much better than Modern Times released just a year later in 1984.
Pools!

Wicked good! The second tune could also have been named "Variations on the Lick". ;-)
