- Hey guys! Wanted to show you this little gem I brought recently! So stoked to have this in my possession with my other 360’s, a rare new 2005 launch Xbox 360 on first ever blades dash 2.0.1888. 14 years in storage and still boots, that’s insane! Man I remember when I got the 360. It was the day I was getting ungrounded and getting my PS2 back. My dad got home and looked me dead in the eyes and said "you cant have the PlayStation back but you can have this" then he pulled back the tarp on the back of his motorcycle to show me this brand new Xbox he won at a charity auction. Probably one of the happiest days of my youth.

I always hated it when people pulled that nonsense. All of our parents told us that line. Drives me crazy.
remember when u could just insert discs and then play right away. no super long download installing , but that is the price to pay for bigger and stronger graphics
Better graphics are probably the least good part of a game. Some games end up sacrificing actually good gameplay for graphics... Worst part is instead of just putting a disc in and playing the game like the Xbox 360 or Wii, it forces you to do a insanely long download that ranges from minutes to hours. For one game. So if you want to play another, you're just gonna have to wait again to play a few minutes. And after all those downloads, the day is almost over. I wish game companies wouldn't push downloading games towards gamers who just want to play.
And the days of Microsoft points and xbox live arcade and indie games when people were trash talking over cod 4 game chat

Miss those days it’s such bullshit with the Xbox one & Xbox series x how you have to download the games before playing just makes you wonder what Microsoft is thinking now a days, a lot games really appreciate the plug n play thing
No you are wrong. Better looking games is not the reason why we have to download so much when we want to play a game. It's due to developer laziness not wanting to compress the in-game textures to something that could be all fit onto a disc.

Just that hazy fan noise alone at 7:20 brings back so many memories of staying up late in the dark with the only sounds being this and the game you were playing. Simpler times.

Including how the console was louder than my TV at night, damn this thing sounded like an airplane. At least the Elite model was way quieter, and didn't commit suicide because of overheating.

@@MozrowDrops hate to say it but it'll probably die in some time... The only fix is reball, and as I can recall it's... very... not well to do. It shortens the lofe of the CPU dramatically, and depending on how well it done... You might need to do it again after a while
@@Psevdonim123 Thanks for the info, so it'll need the solder re-flowed and at hand right now the oven method is the only one I have, dvd drive is on its last legs, has trouble ejecting discs so I have to wedge a credit card between the case and drive for it to open

That fear of the red ring of death made me appreciate this console so much more. Every time before turning it on there would be this moment of please don’t let this be the day. I played this console like everyday it could be my last day playing it which made me appreciate and enjoy it that much more. Almost like the console was alive, it was my baby and I truly took care of this but you can’t fight death. RIP Xbox 360 2007 - 2009 😢

@@MichaelJimenez10 my guy i cant remember its been sooooo long. I have a slim tho and im just like finding older games i had on the demo discs etc at that time. It maybe had been 2005 it has to be. Its all a blur. But when seeing these i just sense fresh air everytime i come back to this. Just lets me know times were fresh. I miss it soo much.
3:12 just in case anyone's curious who doesn't know, what he's referring to by "I know it's Xenon, but..." is that it's the first motherboard that was the most prone to red ring of death. Just so you knowwww
Yeah, but if it has a korean gpu then it will have a much lower chance of dying, it would be on par with corona slims in terms of reliability.

i never got to live the golden age of the slides dashboard since i was born in 2005 but my mother got me a 360 around 2009-2010 and man i sure do love the 360 days
I was born 03, mum got me the og xbox in 06, which was the end of the console gen, then she got me a 360 star wars edition in 2011-12, I really love the 360 gen :( 💔.
Oh god the noises coming from the Xbox gives me anxiety like it’s gonna red ring for sure... just a matter of time.. that’s so cool to see that dash again though
It's probably the old HDD in the Xbox making the noise, those old ones were pretty loud.

I love how when you open the box you get so much cool shit, now it’s basically console, controller, some cables and a pair of batteries if on Xbox plus the tiny quick start guide.
To be fair more accessories doesn't always equate to being better, sometimes it equates to more ewaste

I'm glad this came up in my recommendations. This brought up memories and nostalgia from '06. I sure do miss the blades. I had the RRoD on 5 of my 360's and Xbox Warranty replaced them quickly.
I actually still play my 360 and the 1st Slim model 360 I got I still play and still going strong. Once a year, I take it apart to clean it.

That’s sucks. I own a 360 arcade that was infected with a disease called RROD I had taken to Play N Trade and got it fixed and work for awhile then RROD came back I had enough then toss it away then purchase the 360 elite had it for awhile then gave my elite to my friend as a present then purchase the 360 s version.

Danodie 2013 Yes , I Grew up in the late 00's/early 10's. Also i'm not criticizing the dashboard or anything , Honestly they all look very good to me and the Original one looks very nostalgic to me although i was very young when that was around , and i do like the Xbox 360's latest as it looks very sleek and also a nice way of bonding the Microsoft ecosystem by making it look like Windows 8. But what's important is , I simply said that if the Person who uploaded the video wants to play a Game on the console , he will have to upgrade it in order to do so , i Didn't say that the OG Dashboard is bad or very old looking (which many people may see as irrelevant) , so yeah , i'm not critizing nor judging anything.

I was looking at first model 360s and PS3s and couldn't help noticing that the way they looked, packaging and workmanship etc were a lot better then. Look at how classy they both look!
I remember getting a 360 for my birthday and getting Gears of War. Halo 3 came out a month later. Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare came out a month after that. What a great time for gaming.
It has the launch console grills too. they were more of a glossy dark silver, where as the later ones looked more like a satin grey/green.
The silver darker Metallic grills were my favorite. I have no idea why Microsoft changed them to the standard grey because the console looked so much more better even if it was scratching discs getting the red ring and sounded like like a jet preparing for take off 😂

every other week when i went grocery shopping with my family, my dad would let us stop at the game crazy and gamestop near the grocery store to check if they were any 360s in stock and finally one friday in april of 2006 we found one at game crazy(and yes we genuinely sacrificed groceries for that week lmaooo). what an era man.

I think owning one of these things before all the updates and never connecting it to the internet is a time capsule in itself.

Yup. If you have a korean gpu though you should be good. It sucks that so many of these systems had bad underfill.

Don't know why in the world this video got recommended just now but better late than never man 😁. Got nothing but respect for those who understand the significance of retro gaming and how these consoles were and still are. Seeing this video makes me really nostalgic of that Christmas in 09 when I got an Xbox 360 from my late grandfather. I could still tear up a little right now as I still miss my grandfather years later 😢😭! The seventh generation of consoles holds a special place in my heart for a variety of reasons.

You gotta understand something, I’m an Xbox 360 Collector I know about all the issues, cautions and revisions of these consoles. This isn’t a console that is being used as a daily driver, it hasn’t been turned on since this video. Thank you for your feedback but if you think I don’t know that it could’ve failed right out of the box or bought it to use it to update and play online then your insane. 😁

The nostalgia hits hard with this. I had a ‘Xbox 360 Premium’ which is the edition you have here with the sliver disc tray and hard drive. It was so cool and special for me and I miss the blades so much!

@@MichaelJimenez10 Yeah man, I'd love to see that video! 360 accessories are cool, and there were so many editions and variants of the 360. I'm sure this one will turn back on too, the power supply should still be all right. If you plan to use it and game on it for extended periods though, you may want to find a way to give it extra cooling. I've heard the disc drives in the original models sometimes had an issue that made them scratch discs over time, so be careful of that too.

Ah that took me back to my university days.. the remote, the packaging and finally the UI. Recently plugged in the old girl, still runs fine.

Even if it has never been used you should do this if you have the knowhow. Open the system down to the motherboard and make sure the 2200 uf caps (orange) are not leaking and replace as nessisary.

Lol the only reason they updated the dash ther was alot of glitches on the old dash then ther is now it all started on 2006 when saints row had a glitch where you can get one wireless controller and one wire controller can get you all the clothes on multiplayer now fefa the soccer game had a rare glitch where you can steal someone account without ther password

Easily the best console UI to date. It was functional and visually “pleasing”, but of course today you immediately recognise that very 2000’s look with elements that were used everywhere.

This takes me back to when i got my xbox 360 arcade version in April 2007 along with the newly released halo 3 (the best halo ever made) and playing the first mission Sierra 117 and getting goosebumps.
I remember being so dumbfounded by the technology as i was only 6 years old and i loved (and still do) the old blades screen they shouldn't of gotten rid of that.

Now 14 years later im almost 20 years old and ive collected 2 xbox 360s (one JTAG and one elite the og white arcade 360 red ringed on me but i kept the hdd) 3 xbox ones (a 2013 day one edition and 2 xbox one x's both have corrupt files oof )
and now ive have been Playing cod cold war on the series x and still enjoying myself like nothing has changed (other then bills and paychecks lol) been here for 14 years so heres to another 14...
Your making me wish I was like you, I had videogames but my first owned console was in 2011 when I was 12, I had the Nintendo 3DS and for 2013 I had finally gotten my hands on the latest Xbox 360 model. Seems like everyone prefers the older Xbox 360 models to the one I have (Xbox 360E). I had halo and other videogames played at my school which had a teen lounge since I was younger but I didn’t have my own Xbox until I finished middle school. Lots of us wish we had consoles that early when it came out but it just depended on the type of parents we had and the money we were saving.

Man, this brings back memories, camped out all night in front of best buy for mine, awesome unboxing experience. Played PGR 3 for a few hours then I crashed hard lol
If I was able to have gotten this in 2005 I would’ve been 9, but I wasn’t able to get one till 2009. Always was blown away by the 360 and its abilities and the memories/ friends I made. I remember staying up 3 days straight playing Halo 3 and blew up the power supply. Worst 12 hours waiting for GameStop to open to get a replacement. But this console is legendary! I was 19 when I got mine, just out of highschool working at a restaurant so I pinched every last penny that summer and did research study testing an anxiety medication to pay for it lol. 6 months later I lost audio output on it, just exchanged it for another. Pulled a lot of all nighters on weekends when Gears of War released, those lobbies were brutal, so much trash talk in there, walked away from a few of them questioning my purpose in life... Good times lol.

And I mean people are toxic as hell, I won’t say that I don’t miss the good ole trash talking days because I can’t take the soft environment we live in today but I do catch myself looking up Xbox live parties or MW2 fights just to have a laugh of the past. 😂
I actually still have my Xbox 360 as my main console today! Its so damn good, I actually bought battle block theater for it yesterday! And I'm having a blast playing with my sister
I still play Gears 3 all the time, even though I have a Series X.
In fact, Gears 3 is installed on my Series X, One X and 360.
Great thing about the 360, unlike the PS3, is that many older games are still online.
I also still play RR6, a launch game, in online multiplayer. We get some decent parties.
I remebered have a xbox 360 since 2006 to 2013. It died. I never forgot every moment with 360. In 2006, we bought 360 in best buy. I remembered we were so excited to hook it up and play all day.
I didn't have one but my friend did on release day in 2005. He bought a chair in Kmart and hung out till the midnight launch. About 200 where available but you needed a ticket. He bought a pro. He said some girl was offering him money for his ticket but he passed. When he got home his friend told him those models sold for a thousand online. He thought about it but decided to keep it. I remember him calling me saying how crazy it was. Several kids butted in line and where escorted out lol
Just imagine the midnight release of the PS3 “people were dieing to get one”
I'm most amazed by the fact that the optical drive opened as happily as it did. The black rubber drive belt that is wrapped around the large white pulley (visible when the drive is open) is prone to drying out and developing a permanent "egg" shape, causing the belt to slip. The drive will then fail to open. For some strange reason, a stout palm smack or two to the top of the unit just above the optical drive right after pressing the eject button will almost always open a stubborn drive tray.
Halo 3 was my debut on this beauty back in those days, didn't even play it on HD quality
Same, Halo on my old giant old Pioneer TV, my original 360 lasted until 2010 when I got the red ring, but perfect timing because me and my father got the halo reach 360 and legendary edition, still have all of it
I have memories of getting it new, unboxing it, plugging it in and getting a wave of disappointment as it wouldnt turn on. Two trips to microsoft later I said screw it and sold the piece of junk (fully disclosing it was a piece of junk). I got the series E years later and love it. It's been working for years.
I really miss that old startup animation so much.
Oh man, I remember getting the Xbox 360 'Core' on Christmas 2005 and it didn't come with a hard drive or memory card (a 20gb hard drive was a £60 add on). It did however come with Project Gotham Racing 3 and Amped 3 launch title games. The console had to be sent back 3 times to be 'repaired' due to red rings of course and yes I did try the towel trick.
I remember this!!!!! Omg! I wanted one sooo bad but they were too much for us to afford at the time haha!!!!
I never had one of these myself but it's always nice to see an unearthed relic of the past

I love coming back to this ❤ I got an update on mine. A few months ago I idiotically but accident updated the dash to metro 😢 RIP! (To make up for it I’m scouring red ringed consoles for blades dashboards to bring back to life.) but since my launch console now has the latest dash, I decided to push it to the limit and give it a run for its money. I replaced the thermal paste in it without even looking like I took it apart, I swapped the hard drive in the case with 120 GB one so the trim is still the same color, cleaned it up and created an ultimate retro 360 gaming setup with it, signed into the same account I have on my series S. I decided that the launch 360 can handle all my physical 360 games while the series s handles the modern digital games. That was a few months ago. I play games on both consoles a lot.
Well, here we are. Console is still alive and healthy. It’s still given me no issues whatsoever and has completed quite a few games with achievements. It just goes to show that when you take care of something with maintenance, it lasts so much longer. I’ve had so many adventures with the never red ringed relic, and I know it will someday, and when that time comes I’ll have it fixed and I don’t care how much it’ll cost. I’m not getting a different console. I also recently got a dead falcon console just to take the heatsinks from it to put in this one, and I need to change the capicators too.

Good old times. I remember when I bought 360 and I was very excited. First game I played with this fantastic console was project Gotham racing 3... The graphics was awesome for that time... What a game!

My cousin just got a sealed Halo 3 rare limited edition 360, he ripped the box and put the Xbox on his shelf and then proceeded to almost drop it, luckily I was there and fixed the box and took the 360 home where it now sits happily within my collection. Dumb kids.

one that was almost new about 2 years ago still running the blades dashboard. I put in ODST didn’t even realize the NXE update was on the disc and I lost the blades forever 😢

I also have an original, version 1 360 I have had since February 2006 that I just took out of the box for the first time last month in 2023. It remained sealed for over 17 years through all 4 moves since I got it. My parents were divorced and did not communicate and they both bought me a 360 for my 12th birthday in 2006 and I only used one and stored the other away. Considering I have the most unreliable version, I took it apart before booting it. Had to replace some leaking caps on the motherboard, upgraded the thermal paste to Corsair XTM70, and replaced the heat sinks with ones from later models in 2007 that had heat pipes and transferred heat much better. It works great, blades dashboard and all. Currently playing through Oblivion on it :)
That’s awesome! I’m a year younger than you but have a similar story. The 360 will always be legendary and I’m glad you still take care of your 360 and play it till this day! Oblivion is top notch! When Xbox had the massive leak a few weeks back I heard it’s going to be remastered which would be amazing! I have a few myself that need to be recapped but I’m holding faith and have them stored upside down so incase if something happened it wouldn’t destroy the motherboard
@@MichaelJimenez10 Yes, the remaster is going to be amazing. I had a local PC repair store replace the13 bulging caps for $65 total, $50 for labor and $15 for the caps themselves. Might be worth looking into!

Just the fan spinning on start up gave me nostalgia. I forgot about that sound. The only thing missing is the smell of my Nyko Intercooler that shorted out and left a patch of brown burnt plastic on the back of the 360.
All of the stuff u get with it is the stuff that makes it even better like opening the small gifts on Christmas Day

I remember when I got my Xbox 360. It was 2006 my first job at McDonald's while in High school. This was one of the first things I bought. It was a memorable day since it was the first console I bought by myself.

Man I wish they had kept that dashboard style, much nicer and easier to navigate than the later one. I spent way to much time just flipping between the tabs. My launch console actually lasted until I sold it to a friend when I got the S model. The secret was keeping it vertical and in a cool basement. Lots of space around it and the brick was as far away as possible on a cold tile floor. I also cleaned it meticulously. I told my buddy this but he left it on his carpeted floor and it died within a couple months.
That Home Screen is so reminiscent of the original Xbox (which I actually play more than my 360 these days lol) those consoles were my whole childhood, and now I’m 18 and mostly play pc lol

@@Rilch Most games had dashboard updates on the disc, so he will need to stick to launch window games if he wants to keep on the same dashboard version.
@@InputArchive not exactly I believe you could adjust the firmware of the DVD drive to mod the system.
@@cyphaborg6598 you are correct. Flashing the disc drive firmware will fix this problem and also make him able to play burned games as well

Xbox 360 was such an amazing gaming era. Miss those great times
The older consoles had more personality, the newer consoles are basically low to mid-tier PC's. Having a 360 from when it first came out I never hooked it up to the internet as I didn't really have access until much later on. Before that my old friend brought a disk that had an update on it to update my console to a newer version. Eventually, my O.G. 360 red ringed and I got it replaced with a much newer version that was a Star Wars Kinect special edition, which has R2-D2 decals and plays the noises. I had the 3PO controller but even that eventually succumbed to stick drift. So nostalgic to see the OG dashboard.
