I Noah Thomas, the creator of this channel, have been diagnosed hypogonadism by a medical doctor and legally prescribed the medically indicated treatment of Testosterone Replacement Therapy.
    My Story
My name is Noah and on May 18 2011, I had a rare reaction to a medication called VIVITROL and consequently, spiraled into a suicidal depression with depersonalization and anxiety. I lost 25 lbs in 4 weeks and was in full panic or near panic for 8 weeks straight mixed with the darkest most painful depression I cold have ever imagined. I immediately could not work and had to move in with my parents who, along with many siblings and friends, had to watch me 24/7 as I was a danger to myself. Eventually I was hospitalized in the Psych Ward for a week. Getting through each day seemed truly unbearable and I knew I would surely die. I have been put on many many different doctor prescribed SSRI's SNRI's Tricyclics, mood stabilizers, anti-psychotics, holistic meds, acupuncture and even a form of shock therapy called RTMS. I barely saw any improvement in my condition for a full year. It was decided I had treatment resistant depression and I spent nearly every moment in tears. Weeks after starting my newest round of medications (Seroquel & Nortryptaline) as a last ditch effort, I had my blood drawn for possible hormone imbalances and my Testosterone levels came back 200 ng/Dl and 150 ng/Dl. The average 25 year old male has 750 ng/Dl. With this discovery I had an explanation as to why I was not getting better and why I might be so so sick. The symptoms of Low T are very similar to those of major depression. I started legally prescribed testosterone replacement therapy soon after and have been checking in with the world and documenting my experience with treatment as well as giving my insight and perspective on various topics of mental health. I am blessed to say that I have slowly, over the last 6 years, been improving and becoming more stable which I never thought to be possible. My low T manifested itself in the form of Major depression, anxiety, and depersonalization/ derealization for over a year. Treating my low testosterone has been 1 HUGE part of the puzzle but I have had to continue to work hard to hold on to my mental stability with many set backs. Gaining some mental stability back is nothing short of a miracle as I was near death for what felt like forever. I do not consider myself to be totally healed yet but I am closer now then ever before and aim to use what I have been through to help or at least offer support to others in need I was able to successfully come off my Seroquel and Pamelor.
I work out all the time as a part of my mental health recovery!!! Weight training and all kinds of cardio rule much of my free time and I also share this on my channel.

I love my Xanax it helps more then anything else for anxiety and mood disorders and not being able to sleep and having insomnia at night and being a nocturnal person to begin with from birth also having ADHD Adderall during the day the two pills combined help me stay more normal when taken as recommended, it also helps with low motivation and depression disorder . Its the best two medication I take it each day it’s the best for me personally.

Benzos are a miracle pill for anxiety and depression. I think that people who suffers a lot and have tried everything can take it for his whole life. You will not run any risk if you do not take them, but many will have a miserable life. I believe that each one has to take stock of the positive things and the potential risks and take it if necessary. Thats my opinion, its very unpopular but you have to understand some people that have being suffering from severe anxiety and depression and they can't get out of it

I was injured beyond your imagination while stopping a benzodiazepine. There are some things you do not do to people no matter how many people say it helps them. Find Dr. Josef Witt-Doerring Psychiatry on TH-cam or Twitter/X and hear about his work tapering injured patients. Find Nicole Lamberson PA and hear about her benzodiazepine injury and listen to her hosted discussions for the award winning documentary “Medicating Normal” where they spotlight these injuries. Find Dr. Christy Huff MD and hear about the benzodiazepine induced neurological dysfunction she received stopping and a benzo and listen to her work for The Benzodiazepine Information Coalition. Christy lost her life to her BIND symptoms 5 years off. Find Geraldine Burns and hear about her benzodiazepine injury and her work “World Benzodiazepine Awareness Day” and her work on The Massachusetts Benzodiazepine Bill. Benzodiazepine injury and benzodiazepine tapering injuries are real and crippling people and leaving by them tortured alive. I stopped and start benzodiazepines half dozen times never realizing each time I stopped, the damage was more and lasted longer. It’s called “kindling a benzodiazepine”.
Just do yourself a favor and look this stuff up.

I take 1mg a day but am aloud up to three a day..like you said when I take it when I wake up I know today will be OK. . I can deal with what ever life throws at me for the entire day. For me, struggling through the morning and day with all my mental health tools hasn't worked like Ativan.. I'm 53 and life is short.. one a day let's me enjoy my life...no side effects.. 3 years later... anxiety is exhausting...I become introverted and depressed.. Ativan takes that away.. I've been off for a week here and there and personally I have no withdrawal issues.. everyone responds differently. . great videos and nice to see someone living my life and brave enough to share.. cheers mate

I've been taking 2.5 MG of Klonopin every morning for well over 10 years now. I do think that I have built up a tolerance and don't think they do a whole lot anymore, but I continue to take them because of my chronic anxiety issues. I can't say that I have really seen any major side-effects from taking this dose for so long. I have not tried to wean myself off of them, I don't know how that would go, but I can tell you that they certainly have not ruined my life in any way after taking this "higher" dose for so many years. I do believe that those who have bad experiences with any medication are the ones who speak out the loudest. Those who are doing OK on a medication tend to keep quiet. Just an observation that I have learned to be true after many years of trying different medications. Yes, there are usually side effects, but I have never gone through the hell that I read about so often when doing research on the web. Just my 2 cents.

SO refreshing to see a video from someone who is generally health conscious and just a "regular guy". I can relate to so many things u talk about and have dealt/deal with. I'm a healthy young man that works out regularly and doesn't drink or take recreational drugs, have held a steady job for 21 yeasts ...and I had a life changing event in 2011 when I had a horrible reaction to a combination of Zoloft and Benadryl and ended up having countless panic attacks for days after and eventually had daily anxiety and now depression. I had neither of these my entire life and now i struggle and battle them daily. I've tried many different SSRIs without success and it's been a frustrating journey. Keep up the good work and for those dealing with the same thing know you're not alone.

My question to you is, since you've taken benzos as prescribed for 25 years, has it caused you any sexual side effects? And if so, were the side effects permanent, or did they lessen in frequency the longer you took them and your body adjusted? I know I just typed a "book"...but any feedback you could give me? Would be greatly appreciated. Thanks man.

But mostly they literally lift my anxiety off an it’s what I need to be able to lead a normal life! Ive been on benzos. And I can say that with long term use, there are neurological side effects, which cause memory deficits, and even a worsening of depressive symptoms. But if you do plan to be on it for a prolonged period of time, realize that getting off of benzos is no easy task. Have you considered going on super low dose SSRI medication (like 12.5 mg zoloft). This seems to be helping me.

It took me 11 months to wean myself off of it. 2.75 years later I'm still bed bound & house bound. Other than eating & showering I'm completely dysfunctional. I get panic attacks & a squeezing feeling in my chest & throat if I try to walk anywhere. I also slowly weaned off an SSRI I was on for over thirty years around 7 months ago. I'm severely depressed and suicidal now. For some people, the long term side effects of any psych drugs are horrendous. I definitely feel I'm permanently damaged....

I learned my anxiety was the problem. I have been taking it for 11 years and have never changed my dose. If it helps and makes my life better and I'm under a doctor who understands my addiction problem , I think it's worth it. I too am seeking natural ways to be heathy and meditation/ yoga. I have been on benzos (the same benzo actually, which is xanax) since 1996. It still works very well for me and I have not had to increase my dosage at all over the years. (I have tapered down several times from an initial dosage of .5mg 3-4 times a day, and while I sometimes have ~those days~ my current working dosage is .25 in the morning, .25 late afternoon and a fluctuating nightly dosage, lately hovering at .25 as well. On weekends I can usually drop down to half those dosages.) However, that's only my experience/issues/chemistry. I don't have depression (other than situational), just very, very overactive and misfiring fear/terror (depersonalization/derealization, ptsd, panic disorder, agoraphobia and sensory issues due to autism). I definitely don't think this would work for everyone., but I have reacted extremely badly to every other drug that's been tried.

I have taken Xanax, Ativan and Klonopin. I found Klonopin to be the best for me at the time. When I was eighteen years old, I was diagnosed with Manic Depression. (New name. Bipolar disorder) I was on lithium and many other medications. I'm now almost fifty six years young, I had a stroke better than two years ago. Life is great I have found a lot of answers within myself, so I no longer need all these medications. I attribute my success to God; and my determination to get well and stay that way. I have been using a small benzo (equivalent Valium 5) daily for 25 years. Yes I am physically dependent. If I quit taking them I get withdrawal. But - there is absolutely no reason not to take my one-a-day. 25 years on it still does what it should, take the edge of anxiety. I dont take double doses or other stunts, just, one a day, and there is some tolerance but its always considerably better than nothing. My gran (RIP) had the same experience with her nighttime benzo. Took one at bedtime every night for 30 years, never failed her.
People primarily get in trouble if they start using more than that single low dose.
That said, benzo addiction is the worst thing since cut heroin :) If you took much and need to quit it can kill you and you can be sick for a year.

I am a 25 year old and my Total T came back at 323 ng/dl. Do yo consider it to be low. I experience basically all of the symptoms you have describe in this video. Do you think that TRT have helped your symptoms? My Dr. Told me that my T Level was normal and that I don't need TRT. Do you have any suggestions? Panic attacks have been a huge problem for me since 2012, so bad that I refused to leave town after graduation to go play soccer in college on numerous scholarship offers I had. I struggled to get through community college, taking me 4 years just to get my associates which I got this past spring. I've been prescribed 1mg of Klonopin twice daily for almost a year. I rarely take the 2mg daily, some days I even go without taking the pill entirely. But I have to say it's the best thing I've found for my panic attacks, it's calming effect has helped me get back toward leading a "normal" life. I'm only 22 but I wish would've found it sooner. I got accepted and enrolled at NSU this fall to start working on my bachelors and so on. I can honestly say that Klonopin has brought out the person I used to be before my panic attacks and severe anxiety/depression. Long term? If it comes down to it than yes, I've proven that I can go without taking it daily or becoming addicted.

Hey Noah. I've been on TRT for 5 years now, and your channel was a lifesaver for me when I first got started. I thought I had finally found my "cure" for depression and anxiety, that I have dealt with off and on, since adolescence. Anyways, during the last 4 months I've been through a breakup with a woman who lived with me for 4 years, started a job with a new company working night shift, and my depression and anxiety came back bad enough for me to get prescribed 150 mg Welbutrin XL, and 5 mg valium to take when my anxiety becomes unbearable. I just started this medication on January 6th. I've taken the Wellbutrin every day since then. I told my Doctor that I have been sober since March 15, 2014.... and was very adamant that I didn't want to take the valium, unless the anxiety became too unbearable. That day that it became unbearable?...was *today. I'm curious to know if your use of benzos as prescribed, has had any effect on your trt's effectiveness? One of the main factors in me having my testosterone levels checked 5 years ago, was my low libido. Has your use of benzos affected your bedroom life while on trt? Like I said, today was my first day of finally taking the valium due to damn near having a panic attack and thinking my lungs weren't working properly. I took the 5 mg valium, and felt *normal again. Not high/euphoric, but my perception of normal. Please let me know if you're sex drive was affected by the benzos while on trt. Thanks man.✌

I have struggled with panic disorder, anxiety and depression all my life, but was diagnosed at age 24, when the panic attacks rendered me dysfunctional and suicidal. I am no age 49 and use benzos intermittently, depending on how bad my anxiety is, including taking them for up to 3 months. I find them better than the SSRIs (like Effexor and cymbalta), which numb me out, cause massive weight gain and negatively impact on my cognitive functioning, in a context where I am a researcher/lecturer/knowledge worker. I have never had rebound anxiety and have easily tapered off completely once my anxiety is under control. For me, benzos trump SSNRIs, because I have control over their use and dosage and can customize both to even out my anxiety. In contrast, SSNRIs take at least a month to kick in - make me feel like a numbed out zombie - and are far more difficult to wean off. I am aware that there is a school of psychiatry that view benzos as a demon and SSNRIs as the holy grail. However, those of us ill-fated with bad neurological wiring and bio chemistry, who need pharmaceuticals to manage our illness, are all unique. There is no single treatment that works for everybody all the time. For me, wining off SSNRIs is far more difficult than discontinuing benzos. My advice is to do what works for you - whatever is the most efficacious with the least side effects. I hope this personal perspective is useful. I wish love, light, peace, fortitude and the understanding of loved ones and colleagues to all sufferers of the anxiety-depression nexus. May you tailor your treatment in a way that enables you to get the most out of life despite your mental health challenges. Do not be bullied by psychiatrists: nobody knows your body and feelings and what works for you better than you do! 🌈💫

I’ve been on it for over a decade. It’s affected my entire life and I have the worst memory, I have to start with a cognitive therapist, and I can’t find any place that has a long enough detox. My doctor said I have an 84% chance of having dementia by my early 50s. Mind you I’m 32 so my daughter would be just graduating high school in her early 20s. Ditto, went on Clonazepam after getting over the worst of my anxiety/panic during college, like you I was taking low dose everyday, about 0.5-1mg/day, it was pretty amazing, I finally felt I could speak my mind and socialize like a normal person. Like you I worried that it was not a sustainable solution, so after about 2-3 years I decided to stop it cold turkey, after a week I realized I had to titrate the dose a little bit, so I got some low dose valium and after about 2 weeks I was completely done with benzos, no withdrawal, aside from some rebound anxiety and muscle tension during the week I completely stopped.
I often wish I could go back, as I have had NO peace in my life since the time I was on the benzos, it wasn't that things didn't matter but that every little thing wasn't a huge, potential catastrophe anymore, it was incredible...like I said, you just have a type of peace and hope about everything in your life. Not sure I believe the benzo withdrawal thing, if you do it right you practically won't even be able to notice the transition.

I have tried taking Clonopin for a week in the past. It did help my sleep quality and it slightly reduced my anxiety but since I was soooo afraid of developing dependence to it I stopped right away after one week and never used it again.
I am simply too freaked out of the idea of getting addicted to anything and that's why I only accept to take meds that do not have significantly addictive properties.
So long ago before I even went to a psychiatrist I did my research very thoroughly and based on all the information I've ever got I decided to make a principle - benzodiazapines are not an option.
I am so glad that your psychiatrist is so smart and rational, because I've heard that some psychiatrists hand benzodiazapines to people like they are handing them a candy and tell them to freely take it every day long term. Which is absolutely crazy IMO.
So that was just my opinion from my own experience of course :) I hope it helps a bit.

Bignoknow.... Did you find being on TRT eased benzo withdrawal and anxiety? My Test levels are 259, so low for a 44. I have been on Klonopin 0.5mg for 9 years and Valium 10mg for 20 years. Still incredibly anxious though.

I take klonopin 1mg two times a day going on 7 months due to extreme PTSD (loss of my son) and over all GAD that I have had my entire life. I tried tons of SSRI's but they actually made me worse. So, after the loss of my soon I could no longer function on my own devices with my anxiety. For me, daily klonopin use makes me able to live... makes everything better. I don't get high, I just feel "normal". That said I did have an issue last month where I was traveling and ended up having a lapse in my klonopin for four days... by day 4 I was completely dope sick and had to hit an ER to get me enough to hold me over until I got back to my doctor. So I have experienced the downside of klonopin but for me, klonopin is a daily pill for me to continue to live a normal life. As you said, for me it is the only thing that works and I'll probably always be on it. Some of us are just that way and need it that way.

I’ve been on klonopin for almost 10 years. I take .5 mg morning and night. It saved my life, I developed severe anxiety and panic overnight and for sure this medication saved me. I started on Ativan but was switched to klonopin after a few months. I was never told how dangerous it is. I just know I was not going to make it much longer without help. I have never upped my dosage, it’s been offered but I never have. It works for me. And someday I know it will be a long process if I decide to go off of it. (About a year according to my psychiatrist.) I have great drs and support. Side note: The only negative thing I’ve noticed since starting this medication is some minor memory problems.

I have a script for .5mg of alprazolam (Xanax). Sometimes I don't know what I would do without it. I try to only take it when I absolutely need to. There have been times when I had to take it daily, and I sometimes took up to 1mg-1.25mg per day. Fortunately I'm not as stressed out as I once was, which helps a lot. It has been a lifesaver though.

Benzos are the worst thing that ever happened to me. I think they should only be prescribed long term in extremely rare situations-- and they should come with verbal informed consent about the potential risks. There are other issues as well in the middle. Should a drug be prescribed that doctors don't know how to taper those who are sensitive (interdose wd, paradoxical wd, genetic sensitives etc etc) off of properly? My biggest problem is the risk of setting someone up for neurotransmitter warfare when you rip them off these drugs too quickly. Some people can have their symptoms lie dormant for months/years after their ct or rapid taper. This drug is totally lethal. It should be prescribed with extreme caution and attention to detail. A physician should be more well-versed in carefully delivering a patient off of the drug (which has caused CNS adaptation through chronic use) as they are in whimsically handing out diagnosis and corresponding drugs.

My opinion is that it is best to take as needed. I have Ativan and take it as needed and it does help. I also feel that once I take it on a bad day it'll last me feeling better at least 2 days. I have to agree with you in Ativan making you feel like you're on something. I do feel somewhat of a high feeling, which I hate. All my physical symptoms do go away, anxiety vanishes, and sleeping improves. I'm curious about the one you mentioned makes you feel more on the 'normal '. Might discuss it with my dr! I have a brother with PTSD that takes klonopin everyday and it hooked on it. He can't go day or two without it so it scares me to take my medication on a daily basis.

Noah, I know this video is not technically about trt. I have a question I would love to hear your answer to. Some say that TRT lowers pregnenolone which, as I'm sure you know, is the mother hormone for the body. Have you had your pregnenolone levels checked recently? Have they decreased since you've been on TRT?

The thing about them for me anyways when I took them daily for a year, they stopped working and I had no idea they could be addictive because they weren't for me but I took clonazapam for about a month for panic and heavy chest ect and it was slightly addicting and I got major aches and pains after stopping. It was a bit tough but after getting through the rough of it, it was time to meet the anxiety head on and make changes.

Hi. I too suffer from anxiety and depression. I used to take .50 mg Xanax a day and got hooked. Eventually I stopped taking it because it was taking over my life and I wasn't the same. Why don't you start taking a daily multivitamin?? I started taking it and it relaxes me and helps with my depression. I think it's better than taking a benzo. I really enjoy your videos. :)

    Hi bignoknow. Just my thoughts
From my experience I think definitely AS NEEDED. Maximum 2 dosages a month. Long term.
I've been taking valium in this way for over a year. I would use say 2.5 to 5 mg if I'm having a horrendous day and I mean it... taking benzos are a complete last resort!
I keep a diary of doses and so I have a target time after a dose. Like a safety window. It's usually 14 days after.
However during a particularly bad patch I took maybe 3 doses a week for 2 weeks.
When I stopped I did feel some withdrawal symptoms. A sort of foggy head and feeling like my brain is 'missing something' . So to me, it just goes to show how potent benzos are. They are not to be played with.
So my advice is 1-2 doses a month
    Regards

I took Kolonopin for 3 years daily .5 mg. When I came off I didn’t experience anything negative. A few years later I took it for a month straight when my panic attacks got really bad again, still did fine afterwards. I got lucky probably. I had more issues changing anti depressants.

Hey, You. Before I say anything, just know you're my brother. Shalom. You might never get how alike we are- twins (funny, 'cause I'm an identical twin...you're our brother. tee-hee). As far as benzos, I take a half (of a 1mg) each morning (low dosage...not abusive). Honestly, I don't know what I'd do without it/them. I know people say they're really addictive, etc, but that's just not an issue/problem for me, because there is a desperate need. I liked how you explained that they don't make a person feel "doped up". I can just breathe. I don't think that people who haven't suffered from CHRONIC anxiety can really put a fingerprint/staple on this kind of necessity. I'm not "hooked", etc... it is what it is. I get to breathe.

It depends on the person. I'm on alprazolam 1mg 2x/day. I don't develop a tolerance but rebound anxiety is there if I stop taking it. But it's weighing the pros vs cons. I personally find the relief it gives me is worth any withdrawal symptoms should I discontinue it. As long as the patient is fully informed on the risks it's a perfectly valid treatment.
