    Great video thank you so .ugh for the teaching ,it has been many long years since I've used a rotovap and this was the best video I have seen to freshen up my brain to use one again,really grateful!

    good video. I highly recommend the use of a vacuum controller or at least a bleeding valve to get a stable vacuum and not just full vacuum that would increase the loss of solvent to the environment.

      What do i need to make a bleed valve to keep the vacume pressure stable?
      I can not afford those 1200$ digital regulators...

    As always, great video!
    I have a question.
    When I used this in the lab first time, I remember my instructor told me there is a specific sequence of turning on/ off the vacuum tap and the aspirator. He told me the wrong order will spoil the aspirator.
    I remember: aspirator on, tap close, then after evaporation, tap open, aspirator close (as what you did).
    Does it really matter? If after evaporation I turn off the aspirator before opening the tap, how will that spoil the aspirator?
    Thank you :)

    Thank you for your sharing, sir. This video really give me some ideas for my lab work. By the way, I have question with the solid / liquid form of sample. Is it because of the solvent that affect the formation of sample after evaporation?

    • @chemfunman
      @chemfunman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      solubility of the solute in the solvent, so yes, when the solvent vaporized, the solid/ liquid will appear!

    Nice. Do you sometimes use an ice bath on the receiver flask? What about using higher vacuum? Afaik aspirator pump can't get really high vacuum, unless it is used with some oil instead of water. And how do you clean or replace the seals between moving and non-moving parts in the rotovap?

    I noticed in the video the vacuum line is not hooked up. Can the rotary evaporator be used without vacuum? Also: How do you know that all the solvent is evaporated out of the liquid mixture? If the compound is resinous, do you leave some solvent and pour it into something else to let the rest of the solvent evaporate?

    • @chemfunman
      @chemfunman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the vacuum is absent, it takes longer to evaporate certain solvents. Sometimes, this is even impossible. In my experiments I have used partial vacuum to control the drying process, because for volatile solvents, full vacuum may be too strong and sucks out all my products altogether.

    • @chemfunman
      @chemfunman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the product is resinous, I recommend inserting a dry cotton wool at the neck of the glass joint, so that even if the vacuum pulls them into the condenser, the products are collected/ trapped at the cotton wool.

    When I use and Aspirator Pump similar to this, for some reason, the water of the tank of the pump goes through the hose to fall inside of the condenser and then to the receiver flask. Do you have a clue why this is happening? Help me, please

    Sir my sample is black pepper and I want to extract the piperine and then I will quantity it by HPLC..
    Can I extract it through rotary evaporator.
    Now my doubt is that if I put the grinding material plus solvent into the round bottom flux and after removing the sovant 100 percent, there will be lots of residue which will not be dissolved in methanol for HPLC.
    So what should I do
    I think I have to go first for sohxlet extraction then filter it and then have to go for rotary evaporator to remove solvant. M I right sir..

    • @chemfunman
      @chemfunman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      To use a rotavap, your solute MUST dissolve in the solvent. If you have a suspension, it is unwise to use this method of drying...
