My first reel Daddy bought for me was a Zebco 33. I found it a. couple weeks ago. Haven’t fished with it for probably 35 yrs! Was wondering if braided line would work. Gonna give it a try. Thanks for sharing this video

    Hi Mike,
I have about a dozen Zebco 33s. They all have a line brake. Just push the release button again to engage the line break. On that year reel it is a rubber gasket mounted to the top of spinner cap. Great reels. There is an issue with using braid with the pickup pin line catch arrangement. The braid gets grit from the water in the line and eats a groove in the spinner cap next to the pickup pin. I fish all mine even the 1956 edition with black cases and silver frame w/no anti-reverse. Go fishing its good for you.

I have 2 Zebco 33 Classics just like one on left in this vid that are from the 1980s They are my favorite to fish with. My 1st Zebco was a 101 & had a 808. Keep your eyes out at yard sales best place to buy rods reels & tackle.

Do you think bigger braid will work on a spin cast reel I have almost new zebco 33 black, you have 10lb on yours, tired of mono braking, do you think I could cast 50lb braid on my closed reel?

Braid does not seem to work well no matter what the size. Plus it only has one pick up pin.

I agree, I have caught thousands of fish with that exact same classic feather touch.

Thanks for the video. My 7 year old and I fish but he has a hard time with spinner reels but wants to cast lures like dad so I've been considering this reel, the newer version, but I didnt know if braid would work with it or not. Now I know.

braid will work for it but the only drawl back using it on spin cast reels is that it will eat a small slice in the spinner besides the pick up pin if its a newer reel they still make parts for them i suggest you by a extra spinner in case the braid chews up your spinner if its a older reel they don't make parts for them any more and i recommend you use mono or fluorocarbon lines with them

I put line on two of my zebcos and neither one would cast. Spider wire 10# test.

Zebco actually said that line comes out of a smaller hole quicker because of reduced line-slap. Makes retrieval quicker as well.

i quit using brad on my older zebcos because the brad will eat into the the spinner i had to buy new spinners for my legacy and 33 classic becuase the brad eat in to the spinner and left a small gash around the pick up pin were i was using it and the line keep snapping of on the smallest fish that why i went back to using mono

how is the ZEBCO BULLET ? is a real good spincast reel for the price? need your opinion , because since few weeks ago that bullet is in my mind. thanks Martin

The bullet and the omega is by far the best spin cast reel ever made .

Also loved the Zebco 1 , they stopped making it years ago and went with a piece of junk called Zebco 1 omega. Wished I had bought all they had back in the day. New 33 is a piece of junk. Older reals were better because it was about the customer, now it’s about the dollar

The omega 2 and 3 are the best spincast zebco made and then the bullet topped the omega. There is no dispute

I use a braided line on a Zebco 33 micro spin-casting reel. Yeah, I know. Blasphemy, right? But the reel is on my blowgun frog gig. I only 'cast' by blowing a barbed dart through the gun, and it is effective out to about thirty feet. I use the braided line because it has no memory, and mono line memory coming off the spool can affect the accuracy. It does this by causing spiral yaw on the dart as it flies and pulls the line off the reel. I typically have to hit a quarter-sized target from 25 feet or better, so spiral yaw is not an option. The dart must fly straight regardless of anything else. I take early pin wear as a given and replace the reel or cone assembly when that happens. The moral to this TMI story is that the line and reel you use is completely dictated by what you use it for, and all the stuff you have is definitely going to wear out anyway eventually.

John's Woo. What pound test and brand of braid worked the best on your 33 micro? I have a couple of 33 micros that I would love to set up for slip bobber fishing for crappie, because if my cast was going to go too far and hang up in brush or tree limbs i could stop the cast by simply depressing the button or trigger. I am currently using a ultralight spinning reel spooled with braid main line thru the slip bobber tied to a lesser strength fluoro leader tied to a wire hook or a jig. That way if I have to break off, I only lose what's below my swivel. But a trigger spin with braid would lessen the frequency of hangups. Any advice would be appreciated. Tight Lines!

Tie on a leader of florocarben line.

Has braided line effected your pickup pins at all? I have heard it wears them out.

I haven't used braided line, but I seriously doubt that it could wear out ceramic pins. That stuff is as hard as tile. The Classic 33 is the most reliable reel I have ever owned in 40 years of fishing. Bought mine new in 83, I think. The Feather Touch thumb control is sensitive and puts the lure right where I want it every time, and that's the way you take out any slack, right before the lure hits the water. Casts into the next county.

  • @chrishoonbag8844
    @chrishoonbag8844 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I’m here to tell you that 33 classic is wayyyyy better than any new reel and if that new junk is casting farther then the 33 then you either have a dirty classic or too much line in it

Old comment but you’re completely right! I bought a Zebco 33 from ‘68. It’s got brass gears so it’s super smooth. Casts pretty accurately too. Really wish they’d bring back the old design, it’d probably sell great
