  • Elve's Hill, or Elverhøj is a comedy play by Johan Ludvig Heiberg, and is considered the first Danish national play. Kuhlau was commissioned to compose the incidental music and overture, and the play was premiered on 6 November, 1828.
The play's plot is based around a mystery involving swapped children, and the detective tasked with unraveling the mystery is none other than King Christian IV of Denmark, hence why an arrangement of the Danish Royal Anthem "Kong Christian stod ved højen mast" appears in the finale of the overture.
Performed by the Danish National Symphony Orchestra.
