My guess it is an error in the part, or at least a difference. This score and another score shows at measure 64, for the violin, the notes G, A flat, B flat, A flat where as the players here and on other recordings place G, A flat, B flat, C. Tiny difference but it is there.

According to the manuscript, the violinist played the correct notes. Must be an editing mistake in this score and others.

Or is the playing part wrong? The playing part, I presume because other scores of this quartet shows the same notes as this score.

@@davidyoung6331 The score is wrong in this video, the playing is correct. The manuscript of this piece in Fanny's writing is available on IMSLP, I'm assuming it's a transcription error.

@@loivo5707 Probably. On IMSLP, there are two transcriptions of the score. The Hensel Pusher has the violin playing b flat - c at the end of the measure. The cypressdome has the violin playing B flat- a flat the end of the measure. I couldn't view the first entry. Furthermore, there are several other scores available on-line, at a price. The B flat - c makes more sense to me. Strange that there is an error. Not so strange, however. I have found about 4 or 5 errors in the manuscripts of Dvorak's chamber music, most of them acknowledged by publishers.

Yes, he’s actually my favorite composer. Unfortunately this one is a reupload because TH-cam’s copyright system has been acting very strange while I was trying to upload these. I thought I made it past all of the problems until literally weeks later TH-cam randomly decided to copyright block it.

@@sabersalsh1200 E-natural is the more natural option, (no pun intented), it would create a Gminor6 chord, rather than retroactively changing the G minor chord into an Ebmajor7 chord. It also would allow for a natural sequence to develop and enter the next part of the piece, the sequence consisting of F, E - G, F - Ab, G - Bb, Ab, - C, Bb - F

You don’t know what music is. The e flat doesn’t sound bad, probably sounded better in whatever well temperature Hummel used back then.

@@TheLifeisgood72 temoeraments don't do anything. There is no discernable difference between something like 12 tet and well temperament. It's just pseudoscience.

If he was mozart's pupil he clearly learned nothing from him when it came to composition. This is more akin to CPE bach and his successors than mozart.

I pretty much just pulled the audio from the original youtube videos of these performances. you can find commercial recordings all over the internet of these performers, but for the most part if you can't find a performance on youtube, you won't find it anywhere else because youtube pulls them from the internet and auto-generates them. basically just pulled the audios from the two performers here, fischer-dieskau for 1, 2, and 4, and barbara bonney for the rest. if you search the names with the piece, they'll come up.

I absolutely love this comment! Yes, I apologize for the first video going down, there were some weird copyright issues and apparently adding a description before the video was fully uploaded caused some copyright holders to block viewership in all regions. All I did was not add the description until after the video was fully uploaded and it published fine. Quite obviously a bug! I will be focusing mainly on vocal lieder since it appears to be a very obscure market when it comes to score videos. I have much to choose from! My plan at the moment is to work through Mendelssohn and then move on to Schubert. From there... I'll figure it out. Anyways, thank you so much for your recommendations! I'll keep the performers in mind as I move through Mendelssohn's work. Always great to see another Mendelssohn fan! 😀

Haha, Mendelssohn is actually my favorite composer (weird, right?) and just recently I finished listening through every one of his pieces with opus numbers in order. Now I just need to do the same with his MWV and WoO catalogs 😆

@@RomanticScores OMG yes two more Mendelssohn fans!!!! <33 I've been having another phase of getting into all his choral music, especially all of his sacred choral music, there are SO many hidden gems its incredible! I personally don't really like lieder or secular songs, but Mendelssohn is for sure one of the least understood of the 'well known composers'. Which really sucks.

I’m sorry that you feel that way. I find it quite interesting that even though I have difficulty “accepting them,” I still went through the effort to create a score video for analysis of her piece. Anyways, thank you for giving me a good laugh. Hopefully in the future, you’ll find the ability to contribute to the discussion of her accomplishment rather than leaving only a sarcastic, rude comment trying to victimize her for her physical traits. Criticism is a form acknowledgement... You don't waste your time on someone who isn't worth engaging with as a serious composer.

Undoubtedly H was a good musician but there is always the feeling that sth is missing amidst the tons of notes he wrote. This sonata is way to long for the ideas it contains. The main theme f.i.is just a basic harmonical cliché.

Agreed about Beethoven and Hummel. Beethoven took Classicism absolutely as far is it could possibly go, but Hummel fully embraced the bud of Romanticism, and did so fairly early, as much I think as Schubert did. Agreed about Mendelssohn too, who was relatively conservative harmonically and effectively remained a lifelong Classicist in accordance with his early training; still, I adore Mendelssohn.

Agreed on everything you said but it sounds like you're throwing shade at my favorite composer, Mendelssohn. He was definitely harmonically conservative as the previous comment said but I think he was genuinely one of the most unique composers we've seen. He so effortlessly blended a classical foundation and principles with romantic themes and ideas and in turn created very conservative music yet packed with so much emotional intensity. You may call him harmonically sterile, but simply listen to the yearning, sentimental opening theme of his first quartet or the absolutely tragic, grief-stricken fourth movement of his sixth quartet, and compare that to the emotional intensity of, let's say a Mozart string quartet? It's quite literally a perfect blend of classicism and romanticism. There's nothing particularly "experimental" about his music, and yet I genuinely believe it reaches a level of emotional intensity rivaled by few composers. I think the way I would sum it up, Mendelssohn was such a fantastic classicist that it made him a fantastic romanticist. He found his style and didn't need to go anywhere beyond that.

The more you listen to him, the more you delude yourself into enjoying his music
