It is surprising to see that New York Central had two of its 0-6-0 switch engines in service this late in the steam era. I lived in Jackson, Michigan from 1950 to 1956, where these engines were retired by the end of 1953, although two of them were still on the property (but not in service) in late 1954.

Wow - I wish I could have been around in that era! The variety of engine power, color schemes and passenger equipment both head end and passenger carrying is amazing. Thanks for sharing that here!

Thank you for presenting the trains that came into and out of the Cincinnati Union Station back in the Fifties in living color through your father's movie camera. It seems like yesterday instead of 66 years ago. Showing the trains coupling and uncoupling with the passenger and freight cars in the station and rail yards was a sight to behold, never mind the heavy smoke bellowing from the steam locomotives. It's still history to me, and it was fun to watch it.

Every year from 1951 to 1959 my parents put me on a train from Silver Springs, Md to Cincinnati where my grandmother Brown would meet me. She would then take me to the train that would take me to Bellefontaine, Ohio where my Grandmother Sloan would meet the train and I would spend my summer vacation between Btown and Indian Lake. What a fantastic time I had. Then before school started I would take the reverse trip back to Md. Noone would even think of putting an 8 year old boy on a train for a trip through 3 states by themselves. Things have sure changed!!

Great footage. It's interesting how what was once just routine movies becomes a historical record. And with platforms like this, it can be shared with the world.

A trip to Cincinnati's Union Terminal captures the essence of the Golden Age of Railroads...I cannot recommend it highly enough...

Surprising that the color didn't fade. Some remastering and you have a great new video.

The beginning of the videos appears to be Dayton , Ohio's Union station. The videos with the tower at the station.
