Cincinnati had the first professional baseball team (players were paid), but they played lots of amateur teams (players weren’t paid) before other organized teams started paying their players. One thing you missed at the entrance to Union Terminal is the arch. If one person stands in the bottom of the arch on the left and another person stands in the bottom of the arch on the right, you can whisper to each other across the terminal because of the way the sound carries across the arch. My dad showed me that the first time we went there when I was a kid 40-some-odd years ago.
I am from Ohio have been to this museum multiple times it never gets old ❤️ I was one of very few who got to pay to see the princess Diana exhibit that they had for a few weeks, after it left the museum everything was going back to archives so I felt very lucky! I got to see some extraordinary pieces of hers, and I’ll never ever forget it!
@@spookytaco666 I have no idea, but as the nineties wore on, there was a enough damaged self-importance infecting the general populace that I'm sure bottle blonde mothers with page boy haircuts complained of 'guano'- a word they learned from a Discovery Channel documentary about Ebola.
I live in Cincinnati born and raised. I used to go there alot with my grandparents just walking around. It was a train station where lots of military men and women came home to at the end of World War 2..It changes things for the public to see. We went to see a huge collection of Cleopatras display..Dinosaurs,The Holocaust. Many many other educational shows for adults and children alike. It's nice to see the children going thru on their field trips and to visit The Childrens Museum. Millions of dollars has been invested to remodel there. Closed for a good while due to the Pandemic..Really worth your while to visit. It does cost to walk thru the different museums that is there. Glad you where here. Would of been nice to see you.
I grew up going here and have so many fond memories of it. They renovated it a few years ago and removed a lot of exhibits. The Cincinnati History Museum in particular is just a shell of its former self. There's an entire long corridor that was basically a walk-through timeline of Cincinnati that's closed off. Went back after the renovations were completed and was very, very, disappointed. At least the Natural History Museum still has the Ice Age forest and the cave.
Oh wow- I love this place!!! Cool Art Deco train station, used for "Hall of Justice" design... and now still a train station but also home to 4 different museums!! I'm guessing when it was built there were a lot more trains coming through? So fascinating, thanks for taking us along! 😀
While the actual Station is only used for the Amtrak Cardinal for passenger trains the Queensgate railyard behind it is massive with over 70 miles of track within 5 miles. It also has one of the most productive hump yards and sorts about 2,000 train cars a day.
I'm glad you finally made it to this museum! It has so much awesome stuff, I do miss some of the stuff they had before they renovated it though. There was additional dinosaur/prehistoric animal items where the Neil Armstrong area is now. The last time I was there (2019) the Ice Age area was still closed and the Cincinnati history area was still being worked on. There were a lot of geological and bugs/birds and I am not sure if they plan on putting these items back on exhibit, but I hope so.
I couldn't have clicked on this video any quicker after I saw it. I went here on a field trip over 20 years ago and have been desperate to return ever since. I remember several things you showed in your video from when I went as a kid! Thank you Jacob, this video came at a time I really needed something to make me happy. I hope you had fun!
My dad’s from Cincinnati and I’ve been to the union terminal before too It’s a really cool place and I’m also a diehard Cincinnati Bengals fan to WHO-DEY!!! 😃😃🏈🏈🐅🐅🧡🖤🧡🖤
This is my favorite building in Cincinnati by far and of all of the places I have ever been. Great video, I have lived in Cincinnati all my life and you showcased the Union Terminal very well. At 46:26 when you step outside, the building with the steeple is where I work (Cincinnati Job Corps) so I get to look at my favorite building everyday
Worked here (at the museum) for over 10 years and it's not often that I see stuff on Cincinnati pop up in my YT recommended page. But I'm glad I saw this! Watched the whole thing! Thank you for showcasing the museum and I'm glad you had fun!
Thanks for taking us for a visit to the Cincinnati’s Union Terminal. Years ago there were trains to almost anywhere in the USA from there. Now Amtrak still uses it but only has a train three times a week that arrives at the very early time in the morning. I visited here many years ago before they did the rehab and made it into the various museums. Unfortunately at that time it was closed and I was not able to go inside. It was great how they restored the murals and all the inside detail. I hope to get back and see this great building.
Jacob, you went to a really special museum exhibit, Bricktionary! That exhibit is made by Brickman. He is the judge and host of Australian Lego Masters, and the best Lego builder in the southern hemisphere, if not the world. He's based in Australia and that exhibit was shown in Melbourne. That's really awesome you got to go see that. I loved watching the video!
I was born and raised in a suburb of Cincinnati. my mom and I rode on a train from there to PA. for a visit when I was a baby. The museums are awesome! You should also try out the omnimax some day. It's a trip!
My daughter loved the Spider-Man cartoons when she was 4 (early 1980s). Driving in Cincinnati one day she became very excited, pointed to Union Terminal and cried out, “The Hall of Justice!” I knew it looked like the one in the cartoons but, I didn’t know how exactly right she was until now! Thank you! It is also one of the premier examples of Art Deco architecture in the country. The murals were created by WPA (an FDR depression era program) artists. The terminal and the Western Hills Viaduct were completed in the 1930s. During WWII thousands of soldiers from all over the country travelled through the terminal. An important historical building.
I saw a mention of Kenner St on the baseball plaque. Kenner was a toy company out of Cincinnati which made the Super Powers action figures and sets as well as Star Wars. They eventually got bought out by Hasbro.
Jacob I was right with you on the building made of doorways.....cannot tell you how many times I have made the statement "the doorway is the strongest point etc".....now we are validated!!😀
The original cincinnati streetcars are all gone, as are all of our inclines. However, there is one modern streetcar line now, with a modern train. - it is a free downtown circulator that runs between the Banks (think Reds and Bengals stadiums) to Over the Rhine, and the brewery district.
The grounds of the building was originally a cricket field that became the first stadium for an all-professional baseball team in the world - the 1869 Cincinnati Redstockings. It was called Union Grounds. it became Union Terminal. It was about to be scrapped, torn down, but was saved, in part, by the intervention of the recently passed, Jerry Springer. It now hosts one of the largest annual toy train displays in the world each year. You should really come back for that. It's during the Christmas season.
OMG before I watch this I assume one of the JLA creators lived in Cincinnati! Now I have another reason to go there as I pass my to go to Dayton's Museum of the Air Force Next year.
Jacob! I am so glad you came! If only I could have met you there! I always went as a kid and it's an amazing place! I love it so much and glad that you had fun and enjoyed!!! I just went to the Lego Bricktionary exhibit! I helped build the previous Grand Canyon mural!

The Super Friends was a Justice League type cartoon made by Hanna Barbera company. They were based out of Cincinnati and they used funds to build Kings Island. The kids section used to be themed to all of their old cartoons. That is where I'm from so it is a lot of nostalgia.
Did Kings Island have a Yogi Bear Jellystone Park Resort to go with the theme? I read that they did but I live in Cleveland and have only been there once.

Thanks partly to their on-field success and the continental scope of their tours, the Red Stockings established styles in team uniforms and team nicknames that have some currency even in the 21st century.
