    Erika, Great video. Thanks for sharing. I've done this twice. Just recently at 62. I've never seen it as dangerous just a physical challenge. It took me longer than most, but it is one amazing hike and the craziest I’ve ever done.

      Hi Greg! Thank you for the kind words.. so glad you enjoyed the video. And wow! Congrats on finishing this one twice. At 62!? Amazing.. such a feat. I felt similarly, it didn't seem super dangerous to me. I always felt safe throughout. But others seem to be too scared to even try it. I totally understand they might have a fear of heights though, which I don't have at all. Glad you loved the hike as much as I did. Happy adventures moving forward :)

    I was a GS 4/5 ParkRanger @ Zion National Park the Summer of 1990, and the same time we lost one of our own Rangers to a fall at Angels Landing...
    It's important to know that this is not for everyone to hike, so know your physical and mental limitations...

    Never stop at scouts. Keep going. It looks scary, but it is not that bad. Used to live in Hurricane Utah. Hiked it over 70 times. Never gets old.
    Observation point is a better workout and higher. When you are at the top of observation point, you look down at Angels Landing.

      So glad to hear you made the trek and had a great time! It’s been one of my favorite hikes. At the time I made this video there had been 9 deaths but sadly I believe there have been two more since and they seem to have been very recently. Important to know the danger of the trail going into it but I feel it’s very easy to stay safe throughout as long as you go at your own pace and make sure to have good balance / spacial awareness. Happy hiking to you moving forward! 😊

    • @EJAdventures
      @EJAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well because it was so crowded on the chain section we were forced to stop a ton so people could pass coming the other direction - that’s how narrow it is. So outside of that we didn’t need to take any breaks of our own. On the way up to where the chains start we probably stopped briefly 2-3 times for water and some deep breaths 😊 if I remember correctly we finished the hike in somewhere between 3-4 hours

    FOR ANYONE WANTING TO HIKE THIS, HERE IS THE BEST ADVICE I HAVE EVER RECEIVED FOR DOING THIS TRAIL…
    Ride a bike into the park early before the shuttles and start hiking up in the dark (sunrise is amazing from the top!). Otherwise, this trail gets PACKED like an amusement park line all the way up as soon as the first shuttles arrive.
    When I rode a bike in a few weeks ago, I had the whole trail to myself while going up and on the top. It was so beautiful and peaceful. Can’t really avoid the crowds going down though. Once the shuttles arrive, the floodgates are opened.
    You can rent regular pedal bikes or e-bikes right in Springdale. The regular bike I rented from Zion Cycles was like $80, but was well worth it to have Angel’s Landing all to myself! The ride in is mostly uphill so be prepared for that if you don’t get a pedal assisted bike! It was definitely a good workout just getting to the trailhead. Lol
    The trail itself isn’t nearly as scary or dangerous as it seems, as long as you don’t do anything stupid, but the crowds and congestion make things a bit more tricky at times. All around amazing experience!
    Lastly, I would do it asap because I was informed by a ranger that they will be starting a lottery system for this trail soon, since it gets so busy to the point of being dangerous!

    I recommend going past Angel's Landing up the West Rim Trail for even more spectacular views and then heading back down the trail and hitting Angel's Landing on the descent. There's so much more past Angel's Landing that few seem to take advantage of - explore more!

      @EJAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awesome! I didn’t even realize this was an option. Thanks for sharing. We had limited time this trip so just the Angels Landing trail was all I could fit in plus a few super short trails in other areas of the park. Last time I visited in 2015 I chose The Narrows over Angels Landing. Another epic experience! Nice to connect, and happy exploring 😊

    A long time favorite hike of mine - Angels Landing is a highly strenuous hike not recommended for inexperience or height/fear challenged people. The “Walter’s Wiggles” are designed well to support and protect the terrain and the hiker’s safety. There are chains to use while crossing the land bridge out to the platform. Yet people still can put themselves in danger. Hydration and snacks are imperative, even when you are strong, in your planning for a strenuous hike. Love this place, sad so many have died on this amazing area of our National Park system.

      @EJAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I completely agree! It will forever be one of my favorites. As always it’s better to be over-prepared. Especially for a hike with history such as this one. But SO worth it for those who are up for the challenge. Glad to hear you’ve enjoyed it so much! Happy hiking to you 🤗

    I was reading about the number of people who fall over the cliffs while rising up from the sitting position. Even many of those not afraid of height are susceptible to vertigo the second they stand up, and they can simply topple over the edge. The reason for the vertigo is a disconnect between what the eyes see and the brain interprets. If I’m ever near the edge, I’ll be sure to scoot backward on my behind for several feet before standing.

    I went in July of 2020 & Angel's Landing was still closed due to covid. So Scout's Lookout was as far as I was able to go besides continuing up the West Rim Trail for an awesome vantage point. I'm not sure if I'd continue anyway though because of my fear of heights. But I did sit on the ledge at Scouts Lookout so in a way I did face my fear in that respect. I did this 7am in the morning last week and it was such a huge disappointment besides having some ladies butt in my face the whole way up there where too many people and I found it lacking the danger factor.
    I felt like a car in LA traffic.
    I did it again at 3am 2 days later and it was absolutely great. Biked 6 miles up to the grotto and hiked up. Only met one couple at the lookout and no one was up there for sunrise until 8:40ish.
    Rent from Zion Cycles for evening pickup, lock it at their store and pickup 1-3am and bike down no crowds, shuttles or people, just deer (don’t play with em they can and have attacked people)
    There was a small group of people following me up so I say do it at 12-1am for total peace.
    Some of the best photos I’ve ever taken where up here. No crowds but coming down was a nightmare.
    Spent about 12 hours up there and the chipmunks are aggressive little buggers. Don’t let em bite you, they are diseased, and don’t feed em please.
    I got pincer attacked but if you catch their attention toss Little Rock’s and they will go fetch like a dog 😂
    Bring a headlamp (use red light) and a bike light it’s so dark, perfect for stargazing.
    I used la sportiva gtx spires no problems.
    Don’t be like the fools who hike unprepared.
    Also don’t be like the dbags who create traffic jams because they think it’s their right to go to the top on their time. This is what creates dangerous situations for people. It’s a long wait just be patient of come early like I did. It’s not your right to shove past people or block ways down because your group demands it’s their turn to go up while dozens are coming down 😒---had to say it, permitting this spot would probably make it much more enjoyable for everyone and usually I’m against permitting.

    I did that hike once ~10 years ago. The weather can change dramatically at any time. Be prepared. Don't wear sneakers or athletic shoes. Wear boots and gloves. And if you are scared of heights, do NOT take this hike. It is foolish to take the hike just to take a photo to show on social media. The NPS should use permits to control the number of hikers allowed on this trail.

      I have multiple straps for the go pro, one for chest and another for my head! And a wrist one as well. I made sure I felt 100% secure in every section of the hike before using the camera I promise. I wanted it to be showing twists and turns and different angles as much as possible. I do agree about the large amount of people there and making it intimidating. So important to be conscious of ourselves and others in those situations. Make it a by permit only hike. Make a safety video mandatory at the time of the permit if you must. Put a ranger at the entry to check the permits and require a release if needed. BUT DO NOT CHANGE THE SCENIC VALUE OF THIS BY PUTTING MORE SAFETY MEASURES IN PLACE. If you hike and climb in nature there are risks, but DO NOT start protecting us from ourselves.
