  • Update on my Sisterlock journey
    Hi everyone,
Welcome back to Vlogmas 2023 Day 14. This Vlogmas episode is an update on my sisterlocks. It's been 20 months (I started my journey in late March of 2022 - excuse the mistake in the video) and I'm visibly noticing lots of changes in my hair. I welcome any questions and comments. I'll be doing a Q & A in April at my 2 year anniversary. Enjoy the update!
    ***************************************************************************
I refer to this as my sustainable hair journey because it is in a effort to use less of the earths resources all around my life. Sustainability can be applied to many aspects of our lives. With this hairstyle I use less chemicals and less water. Less manipulation of my hair and less time spent playing around with styles. My hair is thriving. My hair has grown and my hair is healthy. FINALLY

    My hair:
I have 4c, very fine, very thin and low density hair especially in my crown. My journey is unique and I hope this series helps someone. This video is my experience. My experience is unique to only me. I'm just here to share my journey. I'm learning everyday.
    Toodles!!
    Jen

Your hair is flourishing Jen, I’m at 34 months and couldn’t agree more best hair decision. I started my own re-ties too 😮😅😊

There are numerous DIY retie interlocking videos on TH-cam. I started my 3rd set in Nov 2021 myself, and also maintain them, although it takes me about 6 days to complete between working and living life. LOL! Google how to retie locs with interlocking method. You'll need to decide between 2, 3, or 4 point method.

Hi Jen! Your locs are beautiful. My crown area was also very thin. I went old school and started using Blue Magic (either the green or Blue original). I massage it into my scalp 1-2x weekly and it has made a world of difference. Honestly, I use Blue Magic all over my scalp because I also have problems with my edges thinning when I get stressed. I'm telling you that Blue Magic is the best kept secret. Just about every 8 weeks when I retie my hair, I have to make new locs. Peace & Blessings!

@@JenRestyleandFashionI buy it for my husband at Walmart, however, I might begin using it too on my scalp. My scalp in the crown area is thin and I’ve been working on it to get it to thicken up. I’ve moved my reties to 8 weeks to help with that. I’m also researching knotted locks by Melissa Blake in the UK. She says knotted locks give maximum fullness to thin hair.

You can fill scalp spacing after a retwist a begien or temporary spray on color to tint the scalp tone down spacing. I use a spray color on my sides after a trim being my hair is salt n pepper more salt over the ears to prevent the appearance of ball spots. I use a tooth spraying onto it then brush into edges controlling contrast, blending

What’s funny is I cut that part out of the video. I will share at two years. I’m glad to hear others are doing the same thing

Your locks are gorgeous and are very becoming on you. You look natural and beautiful. My crown is thin like yours, and I’m constantly looking for ways to make it appear thicker as I work on it with oils and such. One thing I’ve done is I’ve taken some faux locks that match my locks and I’ve sewn a few of them to a headband, and sometimes I will wear the headband and the faux locks will lay on top of my scalpy area. That might be something you can try in place of a wig if you really don’t feel like wearing one.

Your hair looks great, Jen! I started my SisterLocks journey mid-March2022. I specifically asked my locitian to make the locs in my crown bigger than the rest of my locs. I wanted this because I have very dense hair and the crown is the thickest part. I just didn’t want a thousand locs!. I am glad she did this because my reties were taking over 6 hours for 6 weeks of new growth and I didn’t want to go in every 4 weeks and spend that much time and money every month!
My biggest frustration is since my hair is 3B-3C, my hair is taking forever to loc completely! I know I should just trust the process, but I have used Locsanity’s Sea Salt Spray to help speed the locing process. I have only applied it twice, but it has seemed to help. But the very top of my hair has only loc about half way! This was the longest past of my hair at an average of 18-20” at my establishment, but I feel like the locing process should be further along than it currently is.

Wow your reties take 6 hours. Whew! mine used to take around 4 an I kept thinking I need to learn how to do them myself. But I found a new loctician and I'm out in an hour. She's really good.
I've heard the 3c hair will take longer. My best friend has 3c and she is frustrated too but her hair looks great and I'm sure yours in beautiful. Yes trust the process girl. It's so worth it.

Your locs look beautiful. I started my micro-loc journey in June, I am loving it today and hating it tomorrow. I'm looking forward to some length and being able to do more styles. It is definitely a winner style for me as a runner and one who loves moving my body. Merry Christmas.

Also have a damp cloth or paper to dab up excess color to appear natural so it tones down spacing gaps

@@JenRestyleandFashion I found out how to smooth out the bumps in my locs! Just roll it back and forth between your thumb & index finger! The same for the thicker ones, but be careful not too much because it can start to unravel your loc. Let me know if it works❣️
