Hey guys! I have been wanting to do a video series on minion wave management for a while now and I am finally getting to it. I am really excited and have tons of videos planned for this series already. This first video was a recap of the two rules I wrote 2 years ago on reddit that will be used as a foundation for all videos that follow. If you want an even more in depth look at the even and uneven minion rules check out the 2 articles I wrote here: www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/2jj6pf/a_series_in_creep_wave_management_the_even_minion/ and www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/2jlx1w/a_series_in_creep_wave_management_the_uneven/ Now some of you might be wondering how riot's minion changes from patch 5.24 effect these rules so I will just give the quick run down. The buffs don't come into play or aren't significant enough to matter until at least first tower is taken even then the buffs don't tend to get big enough to mess with the rules until past 15 minutes. When the minion buff for one side gets large the 2 rules both still work because the logic behind them is based on reinforcement time which doesn't change because minions still spawn every 30 seconds and mirror each other but all of the equilibrium points all change. I have tried to figure some of them out but without a sandbox mode it is far too time consuming to test all the different scenarios with all the different buff % and reductions. And at the end of the day it really doesn't change anything. Before 15 minutes we can use all the rules during lane to deny and zone and control the wave then after 15 minutes lane phase is over anyways and sidewave management is really straight forward because all that happens is one giant wave pushes to one tower then bounces and snowballs again to the opposite tower. It is really easy past 15 minutes to identify which wave is going to push anyways so at the end of the day riot's minion changes don't really matter for our purposes.
+SoloRenektonOnly havent been watching youtube so much lately cause i started playing skyrim yet again and downloading and installing mods and then playing it has taken up so much of my time lol since this video is shorter i figured i would watch it and just wanna say keep on making good shit
+SoloRenektonOnly as others pointed, have you tested where the wave must be in order to push once you have a 5-10-15% advantage or disadvantage in minion pushing power?
I feel like I can see into the future haha only brought this up in a prev video. Great work Mike I think this will be a boss series. Looking forward to next upload.
***** I mean I'm a support main so it doesn't matter as much for me but I figured I should at least watch it and now I'm even more confused than the little bit I thought I learned just from watching minion lanes.
DaSticks Normally we just curve-stomp the enemy adcs and supports so they're not alive to CS. :P But, besides the technical mumbo-jumbo, I know how to position right to keep them off cs and make sure my ADC only last-hits so our minions can die to their minions.
Love your educational content (during the regular videos as well). Game knowledge like this is exactly what most players really need to focus on in order to improve. One of the best streamers to watch if you want to learn the game.
Loved this video, I've been searching for proper info on minion wave management for such a long time now. Something I'd personally love (but think many people would appreciate) is if you edit in some text every now and then. Nothing huge, just having the minion rules spelled out would have helped a lot. Just my personal thought, keep this awesome work up regardless of how you do it! :)
Im so happy i found this channel! thanks to you i started playing Renekton and with the information i´ve seen provided by you i actually became decent with him thanks to it carried myself out of bronze(the hell) and got all the way to silver 1. With the other video's you've shown with corrupting potion i actually won a game yesterday that otherwise couldve been desastrous! So again thank you for all of this!
Nice video :) I can only recommend you to slow down a little the rhythm in the future videos. Since it was the basics here, the speed is ok but i think some tiny breaks can be helpful to fully understand and absorb more advanced concepts. (at least for those who don't speak a fluent english)
The best thing about a recorded video on TH-cam is that you can pause or rewatch things you didn't understand the first time through. I know it's thinking outside the box and difficult for most though.
Hey SRO, i really enjoy your vids for almost 2 years by now. are you using a script for those videos? your videos are so on point. you pack so much information into a short video. the best thing is, its only the raw information on high level, no bla bla and begging for likes and subcribing. by far the best education-vids for league :) keep it up, buddy!
How's the rest of this series coming along? I'm a Shen main and I love the idea of manipulating the waves in the sidelanes to exert map pressure when/where I can. Since you made the reddit post ~ a year ago, I've been using these rules to both predict and plan the state of all 3 lanes several minutes ahead of time. I'm excited to see what other insight you can offer on the topic.
I hope that in an upcoming video you explain in depth as to how a minion wave should be controlled after you kill the enemy laner and whether or not to push with potentially low hp, and when to let the wave push into your turret while you back to buy items and return with a wave stacked at your turret. I would also like to hear If you are in a position where your wave is pushing from your turret and you are low hp with the risk of a jungler finishing off a kill onto you, is it better to give up the farm and go back to heal and buy items, and having the enemy laner freeze the wave towards his turret, gaining a large advantage over you or is it better to stay in lane to soak up the xp of the enemy minions dying nearby and play as passive as possible?
I had no idea about this. I'm a fairly new subscriber so I haven't seen a lot from you but this was super informative. Thank you! (Im sure you know about the low voice, no biggie. The content makes up for it)
Trust me guys . Understand those mechanics and you will be already on a huge advantage over your opponent . I noticed a huge difference on myself when i first learned about minion wave management
For something like this, it would be cool if you put in little pop quizzes. For example, you could pause the video and ask "which teams minions will push to the enemy side?" Then unpause the video and reveal with an explanation as to why the answer is correct. Would make it easier to understand.
I am very sorry that bad know English. Will have to revise many times to understand. But still this is an awesome video! Thank you for the great work! I look forward to continuing the series.
@SoloRenektonOnly +SoloRenektonOnly /// thank you so much dude, you thaught me so much about minion waves, lane control when to tp and when to stay to push, when u can roam and how u spend ur time on the map as effecient as possible, u helped me climb from silver1 to platinum 2 at the moment, keep up the awesome work !!! u will always be the alpha croc. peace man and have fun greeting from belgium. Hope u read this ^^
The map explaining reinforcement troops, the blue total travel time should be 34 seconds, where the difference is 8 seconds rather than 16, but other than that amazing video!!
just thought of an idea: As a farm champion, go up to the bush nearest to the enemy tower. Draw the first wave towards the bush. Then there'll be even minion wave at their side of the map. The wave will start pushing at around lv2-3 = safe last hits. What do you think SRO?
Hi I had a question regarding this tactic to see if I understand correctly:Lets say tier 1 and 2 towers are down. The creepwave is slightly on my side/in the middle. If I instantly clear an entire wave (instead of casters only) the wave will be pushing towards me.Since the reinforcing waves, stall, kill and eventually push back the wave before my waves get to their tier 3 turret. Because it will be like an even minion wave meeting at approximatly their destroyed tier 2 turret.Or did I misunderstand and will it still push towards their tier 3 turret? (and thus count as 6+creeps in your schematics since I killed an entire wave).
Hi SRO! Amazing content, Im very excited to see the next videos! Anyway, I wanted to ask if you could enable english subtitles for these videos, because some people like me (english is not my native language) can easily understand texts but have some problem with this kind of speeches. It would be awesome. Thanks and keep up the good work :)
Hey SRO! Great video, I will watch the series for sure. I've watched over 100 of your vids for sure. I just have a small bit of criticism. When you explain something you often pause the game. I get it, it is for clarity, but it makes the video very stale. Maybe just slow the gameplay down by a lot. 90%? It would get rid of the sensation that I look at a picture. Thanks and good luck!
good vid, first one i'll hit the like button, very interesting even tho im a jungler. Something everyone should know about tbh such a lost part of the game. Great Moves SRO keep it up, Good Job
Wait I am a little confused. Say I am on blue side, in order for my wave to push do I need the minion advantage when it is on the blue side half of the map or the red side?
Hey man, just wanted to say that after watching your vids and this series and some practice, I just played a game where I froze a lane so effectively that my lane opponent (Nasus) had 26 farm, and I (garen) had 126. Granted he was very bad at the game, but still.
Maybe Im just dumb but i didnt learn anything from this. you pretty much just said "if the minions meet in the middle its even" "if the minions dont, its uneven" then you go onto say this should help you see when a lane is gonna push. How? How does this help me see when a lane is going to push or freeze?
Hey sro, just a suggestion you might want to make it a little more visually comprehendable with maybe a little more edits? It's so that people like me will have an easier time understanding what you're trying to teach and I learn faster through visualising things :)
Just a small point - This video is particularly low in volume for some reason. I usually put my volume at like 20-40% when watching your vids, but I had to put volume at 100% for this one, and it's still a bit quiet.
The creep wave always shoves to me for some reason on like the first few levels, I believe this is one big thing that causes me to lose lane, I usually kill the two melee creeps then I get zoned away from the caster minions and they hit lvl 2 before me and then I'm zoned even hard, personally I think I'm zoning my self off because I'm so scarred
Could the audio for this be a little quieter? I almost can't hear you. Nah other than that very informative video with great visuals. I enjoyed this, will look forward to your future videos on this subject!
I dont understand a thing hes talking about... maybe some more diagrams?Does an 'even minon wave' mean that both sides have an even amount of minons or that one side has an even number of minons( eg 6) Also what happens if there a no champs top, do the creeps just never move from the center point?
Is there a TLTW version of this? I watched it but don't understand it's not the videos fault just my bad understanding of English like a simpler explaination maybe? Thanks in advanced.
So when there's a huge wave coming my way and it almost crashes into the inhib turret, and I clear it...... I should just let the minions do the rest when they meet up again since they'll meet up closer to my side, therefore m reinforcements come faster and push the wave out on there own? That's cool. I didn't k that ty.
+eric anklovitch basically unless one side has a lot more minions (4 more), the side that looks like it is getting pushed back a little will eventually be the lane that pushes. Their reinforcements get there quicker and therefore push the lane.
I think this video would be easier to understand if you gave examples. Such as showing us a picture of a wave and asking us which will push. Or if the wave will freeze or not. Great video nonetheless.
It can be explained easier i Feel especially with having pictures. But I'll watch it again and again because i know that i have to learn to understand as well lol
+synthessence Oh shit I turned it down when I was editing and forgot to turn it back up. It's really loud in my headset I didn't think about people playing though speakers and such. Sorry :(
+MrPalarme If you see an even minion wave (same # of minions for each team) look what side of the map its on (split the map diagonally through the river). What ever side its on will push because its closer to their own reinforcements so it will get help for the extra minions first causing the wave to push. You can watch some of my commentaries and see it live. This one I talk about minon waves a ton during lane th-cam.com/video/bbAIwJr2KXg/w-d-xo.html
I don't think its every third wave that produces a cannon. I think that only applies for the first 3 waves of the game. after that it alternates, one cannon and one non-cannon.
It depends on the positioning and what minions are left. TBH you are creating a situation that wont really happen unless you and your enemy fight in a wave and some weird shit is left. When its hard to tell I just wait for the next wave and it becomes obvious which is pushing. Like I said in the video the even rule is the important one the uneven rule just kicks in after the even rule started a pushing wave.
+Fudgy Count your minions count enemy minions. If the number is the same figure out what side of the map the waves are fighting on (cut the map in half through the river). What ever side its on will push because its reinforcements have a shorter distance to travel. That is the even rule for the uneven rule just remember 4 extra minions in an enemy wave will always push and can be endlessly frozen outside your tower.
+Bill Stickers even rule = count your minions count enemy minions if the number is the same check what side of the map the wave is fighting on. That side will push.
I meant like seeing it in practice. I am pretty much Bronze AF and would like to see it live as opposed to diagrams. E.g here is me making this wave push in and my opponent loses farm. Here is me freezing and gaining more farm than my opponent. Cause and effect kinda deal. Plus it'd be cool to see your take on how to make the "super" minion wave. Some other guy did a video where he mentioned making a fat minion wave to push into tower; but I'd like your take. But I'm guessing you have fun stuff in store ;P

o.o this hurts my unranked brain.
+Purplemen101 Its pretty core starting point to stomping your lane.
***** I mean I'm a support main so it doesn't matter as much for me but I figured I should at least watch it and now I'm even more confused than the little bit I thought I learned just from watching minion lanes.
+Purplemen101 It's pretty important for support also as you can set up big minion waves for when your adc returns and also deny the enemy adc cs
DaSticks Normally we just curve-stomp the enemy adcs and supports so they're not alive to CS. :P But, besides the technical mumbo-jumbo, I know how to position right to keep them off cs and make sure my ADC only last-hits so our minions can die to their minions.
Purplemen101 It's curb stomp, not curve stomp. Derived from gangs placing one's mouth on a curb and literally stomping on it to cause injury or death.
i actually cant wait for the series. Always found your vids super informative & this will help loads more. Big ups
I am really interested in this series, I only hope my oponent won't watch it too :v
Too late!
Love your educational content (during the regular videos as well). Game knowledge like this is exactly what most players really need to focus on in order to improve. One of the best streamers to watch if you want to learn the game.
Amazing content. This is why yours is my favorite channel. Keep it up man, always informative and keeps me laughing
same shiet man, we love you Mike
Do you make videos on Khan Academy?
LMFAO
NEVER KNEW MY MENTOR IS A LOL GAMER
Nice Video SRO, just FYI your voice audio is super low for me.
+KrispyKayn Yeah I forgot to turn it back up when editing it, still sounded fine for me but I have headphones. Sorry :/
Kristian Velazquez yeah just remember to keep 4 extra creeps for an endless freeze thats really all you need from the uneven rule
+SoloRenektonOnly sounds low to me too, i have headphones and it does sound fine if i turn my volume up higher than usual.
+SoloRenektonOnly please reupload if ever my headphone and speaker doesn't sounded fine
My CS'ing sucks awful - going back and watching all your laning/CS'ing videos - THANK YOU.

So again thank you for all of this!
This topic is the reason I started watching all of your videos. Excited to see more.
Also please do another jayce game
great! Its one of the most important things to know when it comes to 1v1 lanes yet little people really know about it ty for the guides :D
Nice video :) I can only recommend you to slow down a little the rhythm in the future videos. Since it was the basics here, the speed is ok but i think some tiny breaks can be helpful to fully understand and absorb more advanced concepts. (at least for those who don't speak a fluent english)
+Parmenion Ok thanks for the feedback
+Parmenion German here. I like it if Mike is speaking fast. Means more information in the video :D
The best thing about a recorded video on TH-cam is that you can pause or rewatch things you didn't understand the first time through. I know it's thinking outside the box and difficult for most though.
this is nice I've picked up a good bit from your normal vids and I've witnessed what using this knowledge can do
I don't know if that's just me today or you're talking about it in a hard way. I've never had problems with understanding this till today
Excellent, this is what i've been waiting for.
Looking forward to the rest of th series.
Thanks.
When you cannot understand it all, but then people say these are the basics. WTF
I like how every single video of yours is always so helpful and informative =D
Keep it up Mike!
LOVE this series

Good video, but the audio is way too quiet.
+Matt Schneider Yeah, I agree, yer voice is a little bit too quiet. Just a mall note about the audio but very helpful content.
+Matt Schneider Agreed really great video though, very informative
Rip i guess raising my volume does not help either
Thank you I NEED this series
Great video! This is gonna be a useful series for me
I hope that in an upcoming video you explain in depth as to how a minion wave should be controlled after you kill the enemy laner and whether or not to push with potentially low hp, and when to let the wave push into your turret while you back to buy items and return with a wave stacked at your turret.
The content makes up for it)
Really valuable information. Diamond Top laner here, looking to up my game. Looking forward to the rest of the videos.
Thanks.
You've helped me understand the game so much. Thanks man. Keep it up!
Trust me guys . Understand those mechanics and you will be already on a huge advantage over your opponent . I noticed a huge difference on myself when i first learned about minion wave management
Yay, you did it as you promised!
YEEEEES I HAVE WAITED SO LONG
If there was every a league university you'd always be there. You've got this down to a science!
For something like this, it would be cool if you put in little pop quizzes. For example, you could pause the video and ask "which teams minions will push to the enemy side?" Then unpause the video and reveal with an explanation as to why the answer is correct. Would make it easier to understand.
nice video, looking foward to more similar ones !

his rule explanations made o sense to me, specifically the 1st
because he is a dumbfuck and didn't give one piece of coherent information in this video

just thought of an idea:

Hey SRO! Great video, I will watch the series for sure. I've watched over 100 of your vids for sure. I just have a small bit of criticism. When you explain something you often pause the game. good vid, first one i'll hit the like button, very interesting even tho im a jungler. Something everyone should know about tbh such a lost part of the game.
Great Moves SRO keep it up, Good Job
+Aleksander Lie Oh yeah its a must for junglers you just check your lanes with the F-keys quickly see what lanes are pushing and gank accordingly
please continue the series
You became my favorite TH-camr/lol player

Ayy, gettin it done. Good job bro :)

Subbed *^-^* i really like these kinds of videos and im looking forward for more :3
Great Video :) Really looking forward to the video on freezing :D
i have learnt a lot from you.
Since the first two minion waves meet at the same time, how can we tell which side the even minion wave is on? Is it random?
Hey man, just wanted to say that after watching your vids and this series and some practice, I just played a game where I froze a lane so effectively that my lane opponent (Nasus) had 26 farm, and I (garen) had 126. Granted he was very bad at the game, but still.

AWESOME !
bth I don't need this video because you always explain that on your videos .
but keep the great work .^^
5:16 leaving a game ... gonna have to report you
Yay finally
ay you want to know what vid would make you some cash? you telling someone how to play/manage minion waves live. see how fast they react.
Wait what's the even minions rule again? are you supposed to be following this guide with the intention of pushing?
So when there's a huge wave coming my way and it almost crashes into the inhib turret, and I clear it...... I should just let the minions do the rest when they meet up again since they'll meet up closer to my side, therefore m reinforcements come faster and push the wave out on there own? That's cool. I didn't k that ty.
Great video, SRO! One issue though, where is the beard?
Im sry but im still sorta confused how the even minion waves work. So like which ever side pushes in a even wave will get more minions faster?
+eric anklovitch basically unless one side has a lot more minions (4 more), the side that looks like it is getting pushed back a little will eventually be the lane that pushes. Their reinforcements get there quicker and therefore push the lane.
Ludwig Van
Ahhh that cleared things up ty
I think this video would be easier to understand if you gave examples. Such as showing us a picture of a wave and asking us which will push. Or if the wave will freeze or not. Great video nonetheless.
you are a big boss
It can be explained easier i Feel especially with having pictures. But I'll watch it again and again because i know that i have to learn to understand as well lol
I suggest a topic: How to back most efficiently without losing much. Somehow i lose way more minions than good Players do and i don't know why.
Volume is pretty low on this vid, Solo. Good content though! I'll be linking this like whoa.
+synthessence Oh shit I turned it down when I was editing and forgot to turn it back up. It's really loud in my headset I didn't think about people playing though speakers and such. Sorry :(

What have changed? I feel like I did in math classed when the teacher skipped ahead and didn't include like 15 things
this is the firs time i watch one of your videos, it might be because my brain exploded in urf but I seriously didn't understand a single thing
+SoloRenektonOnly thank you I will check that asap
Nice video, but one recommendation is to speak louder, or turn up the sound volume. Other than that, great job!
I don't think its every third wave that produces a cannon. I think that only applies for the first 3 waves of the game. after that it alternates, one cannon and one non-cannon.
So when is the series gonna continue..?
Hey SRO, why do you only upload stomps?
Can you guys do a td;dw, since I could barely even understand what he was saying
What does +3 w/o mean? 3 melees? x melees and y casters that sum up to 3? Only casters? 6 minions with 50% hp?
+KerrankiSuomee 3 minions none of which are a cannon
SoloRenektonOnly How many normal minions is a cannon minion worth? Are 2x50% hp minions worth 1 minion?
It depends on the positioning and what minions are left. TBH you are creating a situation that wont really happen unless you and your enemy fight in a wave and some weird shit is left. When its hard to tell I just wait for the next wave and it becomes obvious which is pushing. Like I said in the video the even rule is the important one the uneven rule just kicks in after the even rule started a pushing wave.
good stuff! keep it comming =)
You da man SRO
hey sro did u stop the series? missing the videos bro :(
nice nice
2019 baby
Finally math without equations
Can u do a video about wave control in mid lane?
+Mel Navarrette these rules are the same in every lane just since mid is a little shorter the uneven rule takes less to keep pushing
Dunno if too quiet and speaking too fast making me not understand this or I'm dumb
Cheers, I think I understand now.
+SoloRenektonOnly Louder audio plz thx
all of the above
This is awesome but what about a walkthrough as well?
But I'm guessing you have fun stuff in store ;P
thanks
