Powerful Best Man Speech Delivered By Gay Best Friend

Karl is my best friend, we met at a youth conference in high school. He’s straight, I’m gay. And we have the greatest friendship ever - I love him dearly ❤️🙏🏽 Today I am the godfather of his daughter!
Since posting this video, it’s gotten 200K+ views and I get questions about how to write a good speech all the time. Here’s what you need to know:
1. Ask yourself these three questions, first: what do you want the crowd to THINK? How do you want the crowd to FEEL? What do you want the crowd to DO? When you can get still and take time to crystallize clear answers, the first words of your speech will start to flow. Or you’ll begin to see the outline / arch of where you want to go. And if you still don’t know what to write, you’ll at least have a litmus test for what not to write.
2. Think about the journey you’ve been on with that person. What’s been so special about it? What are some deep, really truths about the friendship? For me, it was that karl helped me realize I was gay LOL. Hence jokes related to the crush (the way I describe him, the implications of him not taking Ash seriously). When you can get to the deep truth, and find a way to share it with others, your story elevates to another level because it is rooted in human emotion.
3. Find ways to identify the jokes, moments of emphasis, key pauses in the speech. I had to use my phone - I created a Apple Pages document with the speech, and I used colored text for jokes. And I used spaces between paragraphs for pauses. In short: I needed a visual que along the draft to know when I should change how I showed up. Whether to tell a joke, let the silence create some space for a deepening of the message, or to give myself flexibility in an area where I knew I might mess up (or cry). I highly recommend doing this, which leads me to my next point.
4. Rehearse in your head and alone in a room, standing up. Use your voice in your head or a room to help you find where the pauses are, where the jokes are, when people may laugh, etc. mediate on it, try to imagine yourself being in that room giving that speech. And when you feel stuck on something, ask “what is the root of my stuckness? Is it that I won’t remember it’s a joke? Ok, so I’m going to turn this font color red so I don’t forget.” Problem solved, nerves go away. I can do hard things.
5. Trust yourself. If you can get crystal clear on what you want every person in that crowd to THINK, DO, and FEEL. And you connect those to a deep, emotionally true story between you and the groom. And you can try speaking it to find the magic moments of pause and laughter and tears. Then with all that, trust yourself to share with the world, no matter how it comes out. What I know for sure is that you will be more than ok. More than ok!

Tears. Wow. Any man would love to hear another man say such kind words about them. Every straight guy needs a gay bestie. They are the ultimate wingman for girls and will tell you when you're acting or looking like a total douchebag in a way your straight buddies cannot because they are just as clueless. You have brothers by birth and brothers by choice. Julio is going to be an amazing sounding board when the marriage has its ups and downs and the best uncle their kids will ever have.

I met my childhood bestfriend as high school freshmen, we were straight as an arrow but we loved each other, even both our families loved us. It was a joy growing up together as we perfectly fit. And heads even turn as we pass by as we looked good together! We chaperoned each other's dates most of the time with all those girls.. then it was my time to get married first. I expected a bestman speech from him too. But he died barely a month before the wedding.. was doubly painful as it was a senseless murder! We never say we loved each other, but i wish i had. Hey buddy, wherever you are i love you and i'd be seeing you in time.🥲

I was to be my cousins best man but his MIL who had never met me was adamant that she would not attend if I was in the wedding. My cousin I used to baby sit was horrified and his future bride apologized to me but in order to keep the peace I attended as a guest. At the rehearsal dinner and party after I was very attentive to my ailing grandmother and to the. grooms mother my dearest aunt, later that evening the MIL approached me. saying she was sorry about everything as she had never met a gay man before and wasnt sure if Id show up in a dress or leather gear. I told her no problem as to not cause any attention to be drawn from the couple but when I told them of her talking to me. the bride, a sweet girl, was angry say9ing her mothers hairdresser and supposed friend of 40 years was gay and although they never talked about it felt it was impossible that she didnt know. Glad to see this guy get his chance. They have now been married 230 years and I still love them both and dont attend anything the mother is at as I dont want to know someone so dishonest

This best man speech had it all...humor, anecdotes, a little "spice", gratitude, respect, acknowledgement and was delivered with confidence, sentiment and above all else, love for a best friend and his bride. Public speaking can be an arduous and stressful task, especially in this circumstance when the challenge is to get it "perfect". This guy gave a masterclass in hitting all the right notes. I’m not sure why the algorithm suggested this for me, as I was absolutely and unabashedly in a Mariah Carey Christmas song rabbit hole (O Holy Night, specifically), but I’m grateful it did. Hearing you describe your story and bond with your best friend reminded me of mine with my best friend. It’s a beautiful thing when people with the greatest differences are able to form the strongest ties, that often can become stronger than those of the family we share blood with. I was fortunate enough that the woman my best friend chose to marry was also a best friend of mine, and we have been able to really enjoy such unforgettable and even more so unifying experiences since they’ve been married. There is so much space for love, and I’m sure that you guys have been able to continue growing, expanding those loving limits throughout the years, and will continue to do so. This reminded me of my best man speech for my best friend’s wedding. He was the first person I came out to as gay and his friendship, love, support and unwavering caustic comments that only a true friend can get away meant that a number of times I had to stop due to my eyes welling up with tears. Still best friends over 4 decades later after meeting in school. His wife is lovely and they have raised a wonderful daughter with a son on the way. God bless true friendship and the joy and support it offers in all directions. I even had the heartbreaking honour of being a pallbearer at his father’s funeral. What greater honour can a friend give you…
