@@alaskahomesteading I was wondering if your Dutch oven has a flat surface or has (short) 'legs' just like mine, so the bottom doesn't completely touch the wood stove. That is: should I need a rack eventhough the pot is just off the wood stove surface. Hej from Sweden!
My large Dutch oven has no legs. If you see my other cooking video's, I place the oven right next to the fire. Just like you would on an open fire. My purpose for the spacer I use is more to let air circulate. If you are cooking a stew etc, it is no big deal of course. Cooking meat or fish I just put some oil in my interior pan. Or in the case of the chicken I'm cooking now I am using water. My methods are my own and not written in stone. You may find a technique of your own that you like better. I knew nothing of cooking this way until I started. Then I just worked out my method. And I'm still learning after 16+ years... good luck, have fun and post vids!!😁
@@alaskahomesteading ok i'll do some experimenting then, we'll see what happens! I have learned to cook and bake in and on a swedish wood stove (vedspis) as we had no electric stove, and I love it! Now we just moved to a house that only has a small wood stove, without oven. As it is on now anyway the whole day I am looking for ways to use it for baking without oven. If I'm successful I'll film it 👍🏽 Cheers!
Another thing I should have added. If you are baking biscuits etc, the spacer helps keep the bottom of the biscuit burn.... I'll review my video's and try and do a basic tutorial. I can not recall if I have a video dedicated to biscuits and breads...
Thanks that was great,I’ve only ever used my wood burner for cooking stews and heating water but now I can do loads more, in the UK we will soon have power cuts 😮I’m ready, with 100 tins of baked beans 😋and my Dutch oven for baking roasting and much more
I'm glad my video was helpful. Check out my other cooking video's.. There are a lot of cheap easy recipy's, that have few ingredients. I think we are all in for a tough time, and I hope you get through it okay... It seems as though England and the rest of Europe are in for a rougher time than here in the U.S. Fill us in on how you adapt and get through!! ..... Regards...
Go to my channel, and look in the playlist, "homesteading 1"... I think... all of them are there.. I am working on more, but chores and winter darkness come first!
I'm going to be checking out all your wood stove cooking videos over the next few days. It's going to come in very useful.
Thank you so much! What a great idea! Grettings from Germany 🤗
Awsome, can't wait to try my dutch oven on our wood stove!
I have a chicken pot pie and maybe a pumpkin pie planned for today. I'll try and get enough on film to make a video...
