Enderman pick up podsol blocks, perhaps creating this farm around an enderman farm is a better option as the falling enderman will occasionally pick up the blocks, harvesting them upon falling to their death. This also works with clay blocks and is the only way to automatically harvest Mycelium without a silk touch tool.

I feel like we need a new block in vanilla to place blocks, let's call it a plopper, so dispensers would do dispensery things, droppers would do droppery things, and ploppers would plop blocks directly on themselves in whatever direction they're ppinted in (all six directions just like droppers and dispensers).
Alternative name: despenser- like dispenser, but with an e instead of an i. Plopspenser would also be pretty funny.

It would be an absolute nightmare of complexity to run both the dirt farm and the nether tree farm at the same time though, that's why I don't even consider this option
