    Mooshtaffa makes a valid point about the Western media often manipulating narratives about Africa. While there are undoubtedly numerous issues occurring in America, such as a struggling economy under Biden's administration, it is crucial to have individuals like Carlson, Penuel, and MacG who utilize their platforms to provide us with authentic information. However, it's important to acknowledge that this progress may be a gradual process.

The segment about women in the workforce was fascinating to watch because you guys spoke past each other about the same thing. I used to wish to be more articulate but now I wish for being better at listening and understanding what other people say. Good one gents!

    Such a brilliant conversation. I am a 54-year old South African Chinese (my grandparents came to SA from China sometime in the 1930s). But when growing up in SA in the 1970s and 1980s prior to 1994, we were uniquely placed to see both sides (black and white), and sample a bit of both existences, as much as that sounds weird. Probably South African Indians have the same kind of experience in their history. I grew up a huge fan of the US, even wanted to move there as a teenager to not deal with apartheid SA. However, as I grew into an adult, I came to see and hear of the other side of the story (other than that put forward by western and English-speaking media). That very slow awakening has been accelerated only in the last 10 years due to new platforms for hearing thoughts and opinions that I would never have been exposed to in the past like TikTok . Having now seen the world through eyes that are no longer captured by the western narrative, I cannot unsee or un-know what I now know due to conversations and people like these 2 gentlemen. The Matrix is unravelling as more and more people become aware of objective truth, and become connected to like-minded people to form the new communities of our collective future.
    P.S. Please follow through on making your trip to China together , you can be the spark of the South African Renaissance.

      I have lived in the U.S., China, and South Africa. China is a bleak place. Yes, it's "modern," but their (Marxist/Maoist) culture destroys everything of value. Everything different is bad. Everything old is bad. There is very little creative industry, very little critical thinking.

    Yep, pretty much true about how African people are relatively the same across the continent. Love how he meet his relatives in Zim who are Xhosa, from the same clan and the customs are the same. I am a Motlhaping(Tswana) and went to Namibia, and by chance meet some Lozi people. Who as I understand are mainly found in north eastern Namibia and western Zambia and maybe in small amounts in Zim, Botswana and eastern Angola. Well basically the Lozi speak a language very similar to Setswana and other Sotho languages. It actually sounds like a weird combination of rural Sesotho and rural Setswana(the Selthaping version) with all the 'R's replaced with 'L' sounds. I speak my Setswana and they speak siLozi and we can understand each other.

    • @KOMolema

  • @DanielBoyles
    @DanielBoyles ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Technically, by definition, 'social media' is now 'main stream media', since the main stream is literally the medium of the bulk of (information) flow.
    And while certain platforms are governed by (benevolent) dictators writing acceptable (usage) policies, the broader internet platform still grants individuals choice in countries that value freedom of speech.
    I.e. I can go to Meta or Truth or whatever, just as I could watch CNN, RT, etc too.
    The Media is also known as the 4th Branch of Government, which, thanks to the internet, has shifted more towards direct governance 'for the people, by the people'.. whether we individually agree with those other people or not.
    Remember that the Internet itself originated as a US Defense Project under DARPA, to protect western democratic values where Marketing becomes important.
    I.e. gaining power through the shaping of popular opinion, e.g. KLT (Know, Like, Trust) and "Pirate Metrics' AARRR ( acquisition, activation, retention, referral, and revenue) like the Asians did early in globally promoting their culture.

    • @SibusisoHlophe-dp5lq
      @SibusisoHlophe-dp5lq ปีที่แล้ว

      I LIKED your comment even though I disagree with you on the first part. You cannot state that social media is now main stream media by definition. It's not wherether it's dominant in numbers or not. Main stream is by definition is linear public one way communication. Such as Netflix etc where you do not have any community. Social media is your TH-cam and them. Because there's sharing of ideas and also greater chance of misinformation, profanity, etc. Therefore it's not by definition but by technicality as you ironically and obliviously observed yourself

    On the "senile point", I once read a book by Paulo Coelho called Veronika Decides To Die and there's line there where he says "sanity is collective insanity" and I say that to say, it's okay to seek out things outside the "norm". It's okay to have a different opinion because this goes to show that you are a free-thinker and essentially a leader that doesn't just take what's been given.

    Amazing conversation, it definitely gave me a wake up call to become the person who wants to make a bigger impact than just in my life, don't know whether to call it a calling or what. But these conversations always stretch the mind and i love them. Patiently waiting for that summit.

    It seems like these two gentlemen have a wealth of knowledge and information to share in this episode. However, considering the vast amount of content they cover, it might be beneficial to consider creating a weekly 30-minute podcast that focuses on discussing solutions to problems in South Africa and delving into topical issues. This format will allow for a more focused and concentrated discussion while addressing various challenges and offering potential solutions.

    Mooshtafa ngyavumelana nawe on most of your topics but as a shopsteward and a worker, I totally disagree with the exploitation of workers...As an employer you will never think for whats best for your employees...Your interests will always be in being profitable and thats exactly why we will always need Unions...The basic salary must be inline with cost of living thats what unions "must" always fight for.✊

    You guys (all of you on this and other channels and platforms) are doing great work. I am a fan and follower of your works and conversations.
    My critic is that no amount of dialogue is going to change things.
    The only people that have any impact are those that are in the team, weather management, or coaching staff or players to use a sports analogy. The fans can make noise and even get the coach fired sometimes but they can't win the league.
    So I would implore the leaders and followers of these channels that whilst the conversations are being held here and elsewhere, let us also have on the ground agencies that are intentional in purpose. Otherwise, it's all just hot air.
    Once we start organizing and building, that's when we will see meaningful change and progress.

    But why nothi uMbeki signed for BRICS when brics didn't exist when he was booted out of parliament with a vote of no confidence in 2008 before BRICS even existed and South Africa Signed in 2010 during Zumas tenure.
    Zuma himself says it was his idea and Mbeki doesnt.

    The idea of building a colony of a 1000 young people and turning it into a 'Dubai' as I disregard the enslaving encumbering laws of the State (Oranje style) is enticing and I shall be profiling a typical example of a similar colony in my next book 'Excuse me, Why are you still in a ghetto.'
