Will my shots channel less with the Decent compared to an E61?

I've had my 1.4 since Dec 2020 and love it. Still making primarily americano drinks cause I like nursing a big mug. Yeah, I know, that's a lot of money for an americano but what can I say, Tesla stock was skyrocketing, money was burning a hole in my pocket, I splurged which is about as messy as a Decent machine ever gets.
    Spurge, buying....get it!
Yeah, yeah I know, I'm not Jerry Seinfeld.
"Channeling, what's that?" would be a normal responce to any Decent owner who hasn't been down the rabbit hole of E61 machines and others as I have. My respect for manufacturers of E61 machines has gone in the dumper since becoming aware of how you do your research and design and constantly trying to improve.
You and your team are quite amazing!

Agree with your thoughts in general, but I would like to defend the E61 nonetheless. Especially for budget-minded prosumers an E61 brehwhead with its mechanical pre-infusion chamber can reduce channeling, especially when paired with an Ulka EX-4 or even ER-4 vibration pump, who ramp up the pressure way slower than rotary pumps. I have never understood the trend for rotary pumps in home use. Flow and pressure profiles of rotary pumps are less than ideal for “simpler” espresso machines. Now, with the availability of flow control needle valve kits for the E61, some good results can be achieved at a much lower budget. It is really astounding what this old technology is still capable of. Where it lacks more in my opinion is temperature control and stability.
The Decent of course still holds the bar for full nerding out on the never ending quest for the best coffee.
Thanks for your awesome work and the transparency of your thought processes! It’s great that one can be part of that journey, even when you can’t afford it!

Absolutely agree on the Sette. Dosing into the cup, shaking, and then raking with a WDT tool solved my channeling issues. I'm saving up for either a Lagom or a Ceado in the meantime.

Is a Specialita reasonable, or should that be upgraded? Unfortunately no P64 available at the moment.

When you mention about the GS3 flow rate - was this the AV version that you used? Thanks for the vid!

When pulling medium/dark espressos with the Decent how high flow rates do you have as highest?

You don't want anything more than 2ml/secs closer to 1ml/s if on the darker end. You shouldn't have to worry about this too much if you pick a suitable profile like the lever style ones. Unless you are tuning a profile to suit your beans.

@@decentespresso Thank you! You mentioned in the video that the GS3 have a flow rate of 12ml/s and in many videos on youtube discussing flow rate they use the flow rate you get without portafilter and then with a flow control changing that flow to create a certain profile. Do you think that is wrong way to get "a good" profile. I have a Lelit MaraX which has a low stock flow rare, about 5ml/s, using a flow control I can get around 7ml/s. But if I for example want to create a lever style profile, or other, I am not sure how to best do this. Is it better to just focus on the flow rate of the actual output, maybe using a smart scale, and dont care too much of what the flow rate is without portafilter.

@@scider2 My advice, get the SEP software, it's free w/o a pressure sensor (just using a bluetooth scale) and try to follow the curves of lever machines www.naked-portafilter.com/smart-espresso-profiler/

Omg....the most basic video on TH-cam WITH THE MOST logical facts that expose channeling on a E61......Will be getting a flow control kit installed to help remove 4bar Pre infusion
