I agree with another viewer that an RNAV approach tutorial would be nice, since VNAV is used. ILS approaches are more mainstream, but it would be nice to have this covered as well.
Thanks for this. I tend to be floaty and messing with the throttle a lot on approach which seems like a big no no after watching all your Q4XP tutorials. Would love to see an RNAV & LOC approach video if you ever have time.
Q400 check pilot here. We flare at about 10 feet. Always with power on. Consider landing flap 15 Vref +10. You'll use about 14% more runway but the airplane is much easier to land.
Woo hoo! A real q400 pilot... yeah, I know you don't currently fly it. I would die for more content regarding the dash 8! Well I wouldn't die... but I think you get my enthusiasm :-)
Really enjoyed that thanks! Very informative. I generally prefer using less flap for landing and usually always gets a much nicer landing, even though it uses more runway but that is more offen than not always not an issue. However your full flaps landing looked better! Nice!
Thanks for this great video. I've been really struggling with getting a good landing and I think this will help me a huge amount. I love the plane but have been getting so frustrated with the landings.
@@320SimPilot It will be very helpful as I've watched some other streams also and watching them fall out of the sky near the ground. I'm so used to chopping the power just before touchdown and that's the worst thing with this great plane and you explained it so well. I also noticed that you needed to put some rudder in each time and I've been caught with that also when I cut the AP and notice the drift which I've had trouble catching. Keep up the good videos.
I'm making my own Q200 and just can't get the aero right, or so I thought. Looks more like I had no clue on how to land this bird. Thanks for the education.
When flying the Dash 8 I asked myself a very fundamental question, do you control sink rate on approach with the elevators and use power to keep speed or do you go by "power for pitch, trim for speed" when landing? I have spent some time in DCS and the Carrier planes rely only on this. Can anyone help me out?
Thanks for this really interesting video (even while I don’t have X-plane!). Just curious, do you know why they haven’t added a flap setting between 15 and 35?
@@320SimPilot thanks for that, have done about 10 more flights since my comment 4 days ago and am now getting much better at landing, not crashing anymore, landing rate around 350 so still very high, I think I’m flaring to early, not at 20ft like you but around 80ft. More practice and I’ll have it. Merry Christmas and thanks again for your streams.
Thank you so much for this video! I just purchased this bird and i love it! I wont say i love it more than an Airbus but its close! I did my first flight yesterday: LJLJ --> LOWW and slammed it down -460fpm and now wish i watched this before hand! I did some practise landings after applying this technique and got it down smoothly and safely! Thank you so much! Cant wait to fly Birmingham ---> Innsbruck later in the beautiful Flybe purple livery!
XP11 is a great sim. You run the risk of XP12 early access opening up where you can buy XP11 and have a free upgrade path to XP12. Also, if you purchase airplanes you may have to pay to upgrade those planes to work with XP12. The issue is no one has an idea when XP12 will start early access. It can be weeks or it can be months until we see anything related to XP12. Your choice if you have the disposable income to upgrade XP and airplanes and willing to take the risk. XP12 just has better airliners than MSFS but MSFS is amazing with GA planes IMO. XP11 also goes on sale on Steam, you just missed the 50% off this past week.. you can try waiting for it but you still have the same risk.
It basically means the propellors are spinning but without pushing air backwards, they are turned so that they are flat to the air flow. I hope that makes sense! It is like being in 'neutral' in your car.

I agree, I would really like an rnav approach tutorial video.

Amazing video! Would you consider doing an entire series of Dash8 tutorials? Like in-depth from cold and dark all to way to shut down.
320SP's vids - always so watchable and informative.
Thanks Haden!
You are my favorite flight sim youtuber by far. Thank you.
Thank you Umar, very kind!
Thanks for this! I'm flying the Q400 around NZ for PVA and this helped a lot.
Thanks for watching!
Excellent walk though on landing the Q400. Very different without all the Bus's automation help. thank you
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching

After 2 years still a great video man thank you for the tips I may be going on the Q soon, Cheers
Amazing landing especially considering the empennage was detached from the aircraft 15:34
Great spot! Indeed we were using a 'lighter' version of the aircraft for that landing! Thanks for watching
How can you have a tail strike if there’s no tail? Revolutionary thinking…
This is the most meaningful video to teach how to dash 800
Thanks for the tips! I've been landing this plane like an F-18 from pulling my power out early.
We've all done it! Thanks for watching!
Love the Dash 8,, flew the Majestic in FSX for years, unfortunately not available for 2020 yet,
thanks for all the vids,
You are very welcome Graham! I had the Majestic too!

In general I prefer Flap 15 when winds are not too strong, flap 35 for turbulence!
5 degrees is the top of the box on the airplane symbol. You were actually at 6 degrees on your first flap 15 landing!
Thank you for this toturial really needed it. Very nice livery ;)
Thanks for watching, and I'm a big fan of the livery too, thanks to Bounc3 for making it!
Super didactic video !
Do you plan to make a video on how to properly Go Around with the Dash 8 ?
Thank you for this video it has helped me to improve my landings enormously
This plane is so much fun to fly, hope you do more tutorials with it!
VERY helpful tutorial! Thanks so much!
Thanks, this was helpful. I was landing her like a 73 and absolutely slamming it in to the ground.

Why do the props overspeed everytime I put it into discing after landing? I just to fly the 300 and this is not normal at all.
Great video. Any update if you might do a RNAV or LOC approach video?
is rare 35degrees flap in the q400? example aspen tried many configs and approach is so step that is no easy to plung without accelerating

I wish I knew! Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed this one even without the sim!
Watched your vid, excellent as usual, followed what you did but still bounced and crashed, find landing this aircraft so very hard
Thanks Steve! This one may take some practice but it is good fun when you manage!

Would like to see such a precise repeat function on the P3D simulator!
hi captain, can you share the joystick settings you used for the toliss 321 on the x plane?

Good video as always, one question is it worth getting xplane 11 or just wait for 12...?

Thanks! That is a really tricky question. Certainly if you get x plane 11 make sure you get it on sale as it’s a few years old now!
hey do you think the fligh dynamics in this plane are good represented?
Hi Peter, yes they have modelled it very nicely indeed!
how the disc works ? Like we cant see anything changing visually but the sound is changing.
