not really teamwork, but this kind of skill is a necessary attribute of high level players playing in an ensemble. Don't stick out, blend and balance with the rest of the band
Its less teamwork here and more... Instinct. Follow the pulse of the group and make Sure to blend your sound in well to add balance. Follow the Dynamics but don't stick out.
I was amazed at the intonation of the substained chords.I've been playing tbone for the past 40 years, and the past 17 of those in a symphony on a Double Valve Bass Trombone. All I can say is our tbone section very seldom can play with such sense of near perfect chord pitch. One of us is always making small adjustments on the fly with the slides. I don't see it with this group. The timming is so precise like 4 playing the voice of one large pipe organ. Cudos to u guys. DonfromSkagitSymphony
Yes, before I started to listen I expected considerable problems in these regards that you mention, but I too was very positively surprised at how well they performed this.
this is quite possibly one of the most epic videos I've seen on TH-cam. It combined 2 of my favorite things. Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor and Trombone Quartets! it was very metal!
I am overwhelmed: the techique, the intonation the cooperation, the expression(who coached them,?)its like a double marathon; each of them is a star, each of them at times the slave to the others, Bach will be delighted.
Tone color, touch, tonguing, speed of sound, pitch Bravo wonderful I was touched by this perfect performance of this long song without score The trombone sound is very beautiful
I had the honor of seeing this wonderful group live in SLC at ITF 2007. I heard a ton of great performances, but these guys absolutely shook the walls.
This is some of the finest brass playing on the planet. Those that have the nerve or cowardice to berate this is a blatant ignoramus as to the discipline this kind of performance demands. Bach, himself, would have loved these guys!
Trombone is a versatile instrument and in the hands of artists like this the ensemble sound is unbelievable. Why some of you feel it necessary to comment about trivial matters in the performance is beyond reason. These guys are awesome. Bravo, Bravo
They have such a great blend! I can see them trading off the melody, but their tone is so awesome that I can't tell by listening when they are trading off! Especially the first and second parts! That's amazing!
I have tears in my eyes. I stood and applauded for a piece I heard on my computer. I think one must be a trombone player, or at least, at one time have been one, and familiar with the piece played on the organ to completely appreciate the skill with which this was executed. Thank you, gentlemen.
This is not only a demonstration of sheer technical mastery of the trombone, but listen to the great sense of dynamic contrast that runs throughout the entire piece.
No, actually, because if he says he wants to play A FRACTION of something, there needs to be some sort of amount in the numerator. 0 doesn't work because then it wouldn't be a fraction; it would be nothing.
I saw them at the International Trombone Festival in May of 2008. Amazing players, and amazing gentlemen. They were very personable after the show and have a true love for passing on the at of trombone playing, not just themselves. Bravo, Trombones de Coasta Rica
I can tell from the way he tilts his head and places his mouthpiece off center that the fellow third from the left started playing at a very young age (when his arms were too short to reach. I developed the same habit). The embrasure strength they display at the beginning of the fugue is amazing!
Awesome.....Fantastic........my Dad born in 1930 (great depression and WWII era guy) best thing he ever bought me was a Conn 88H "symphony model" tenor trombone.....still playing it over 50 years later and it went through a LOT of marching band and running around on the football field. Unbelievable sound.......rose bell and etched with "Conn- made in the USA" on the bell........they go for over $3000.00 bucks for a similar horn today.
MUCHAS FELICITCIONES
-- Excelent. They keep the tempo and intonation, without turning in the circus number. Bravo!
i love that one of them plays off to the side. i used to and i was brain washed to think that the center was the only right place. seeing this makes me happy =)
Who gave this a thumbs down?? That is outrageous! I bet those 15 people have no clue how to play the trombone, or they don't the slightest idea how hard it is to play fast tunes on a trombone. Anyway, Great arrangement :)
You're right, Scooby. I play in a community band. There are 8-9 of us t-bones. Not a week goes by that someone doesn't make some sort of comment about how awesome we sound together - and that's only 3 part harmony. We're constantly rearranging the band and it's usually the saxes who sit directly in front of us - getting a good ear full(heavy dose!) and they usually make the comments. I'm sure that more than one of them secretely wishes he had chosen the 'bone for his instrument.
Oh, I love Bach, and trombone. And I especially love bach on trombone. so you can imagine that I did enjoy this video very much, because it was Bach without all the inferior instruments.
man, if you think about it. The population of Costa Rica is only about 4.5 million. That's as much as many U.S. cities, but yet, it's hard to find 4 trombonists in one state that can play this well together without resorting to asking a symphonists or college professor to join in.
im proud to be a trombone player... this is fucking awesome, and i wish i could find 3 other trombonists as good as me to play this with me. god, this is cool.
honestly some of the cleanest playing i have ever heard from a trombone quartet
Because typically the trombone is a messy instrument to play unless you know what you're doing
This truly proves how beautiful a trombone can sound and play when you are really good.

The greatest instrument... Of all time
Facts
Not true; but it is a beautiful performance
@@gingersroc lol you are a fucking moron. But you are not wrong. Bass guitar is way better.

4 masters of the trombone. Beautiful playing.
Amazing teamwork - it's like they are one person, playing four trombones.

Just playing a steady 4/4 is crazy enough, but sustaining these trombone gymnastics is truly amazing

Any of y’all still listen to this every once in a while?
Yes
It is THE instrument to play this piece. Piú maestoso, bravo!
I am overwhelmed: the techique, the intonation the cooperation, the expression(who coached them,?)its like a double marathon; each of them is a star, each of them at times the slave to the others, Bach will be delighted.
Some of the best tombone playing I've ever heard. Wonderful!! You folks are amazing.

What a beautiful treatment of this piece! Gotta love the bass trombone - powerful and great tone (well... all of them have great tone!)
Amazing. As a trombone minor in college, I have great admiration for these guys.
Tone color, touch, tonguing, speed of sound, pitch Bravo wonderful

This is very special. Nice job guys! And this looks like it's memorized...without a single hesitation!
What a tribute to Bach, the trombone, and to this magnificent composition.

What Bach would probably say about? Fantastic guys!
It takes a really good bass trombone player to double tongue in the low register as the man is this quartet does
This is not only a demonstration of sheer technical mastery of the trombone, but listen to the great sense of dynamic contrast that runs throughout the entire piece.
I wish I could play my trombone even a fraction of that good.
