I was amazed at the intonation of the substained chords.I've been playing tbone for the past 40 years, and the past 17 of those in a symphony on a Double Valve Bass Trombone. All I can say is our tbone section very seldom can play with such sense of near perfect chord pitch. One of us is always making small adjustments on the fly with the slides. I don't see it with this group. The timming is so precise like 4 playing the voice of one large pipe organ. Cudos to u guys. DonfromSkagitSymphony
Yes, before I started to listen I expected considerable problems in these regards that you mention, but I too was very positively surprised at how well they performed this.
this is quite possibly one of the most epic videos I've seen on TH-cam. It combined 2 of my favorite things. Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor and Trombone Quartets! it was very metal!
No, actually, because if he says he wants to play A FRACTION of something, there needs to be some sort of amount in the numerator. 0 doesn't work because then it wouldn't be a fraction; it would be nothing.
I am overwhelmed: the techique, the intonation the cooperation, the expression(who coached them,?)its like a double marathon; each of them is a star, each of them at times the slave to the others, Bach will be delighted.
I had the honor of seeing this wonderful group live in SLC at ITF 2007. I heard a ton of great performances, but these guys absolutely shook the walls.
This is some of the finest brass playing on the planet. Those that have the nerve or cowardice to berate this is a blatant ignoramus as to the discipline this kind of performance demands. Bach, himself, would have loved these guys!
They have such a great blend! I can see them trading off the melody, but their tone is so awesome that I can't tell by listening when they are trading off! Especially the first and second parts! That's amazing!
I have tears in my eyes. I stood and applauded for a piece I heard on my computer. I think one must be a trombone player, or at least, at one time have been one, and familiar with the piece played on the organ to completely appreciate the skill with which this was executed. Thank you, gentlemen.
not really teamwork, but this kind of skill is a necessary attribute of high level players playing in an ensemble. Don't stick out, blend and balance with the rest of the band
Its less teamwork here and more... Instinct. Follow the pulse of the group and make Sure to blend your sound in well to add balance. Follow the Dynamics but don't stick out.
This is not only a demonstration of sheer technical mastery of the trombone, but listen to the great sense of dynamic contrast that runs throughout the entire piece.
Trombone is a versatile instrument and in the hands of artists like this the ensemble sound is unbelievable. Why some of you feel it necessary to comment about trivial matters in the performance is beyond reason. These guys are awesome. Bravo, Bravo
man, if you think about it. The population of Costa Rica is only about 4.5 million. That's as much as many U.S. cities, but yet, it's hard to find 4 trombonists in one state that can play this well together without resorting to asking a symphonists or college professor to join in.
I saw them at the International Trombone Festival in May of 2008. Amazing players, and amazing gentlemen. They were very personable after the show and have a true love for passing on the at of trombone playing, not just themselves. Bravo, Trombones de Coasta Rica
i love that one of them plays off to the side. i used to and i was brain washed to think that the center was the only right place. seeing this makes me happy =)
Das ist sehr beeindruckend! In diesem Stück steckt unglaublich viel Fleiß und Übung. Übung, Übung. Ich muss eigentlich zur Arbeit - aber diese Zeit nehme ich mir jetzt... alles anzuhören :)
im proud to be a trombone player... this is fucking awesome, and i wish i could find 3 other trombonists as good as me to play this with me. god, this is cool.
Oh, I love Bach, and trombone. And I especially love bach on trombone. so you can imagine that I did enjoy this video very much, because it was Bach without all the inferior instruments.
Who gave this a thumbs down?? That is outrageous! I bet those 15 people have no clue how to play the trombone, or they don't the slightest idea how hard it is to play fast tunes on a trombone. Anyway, Great arrangement :)
Хорошее исполнение. Чуваки держат темп и интонацию, не превращая исполнение в цирковой номер. Браво! -- Excelent. They keep the tempo and intonation, without turning in the circus number. Bravo!
one thing that makes a trombone quartet good is how easily they can tune chords i.e. flat 3rd sharp 5th in major and sharp 3rd and flat 5th for minor chords
One of the great compositions of all time. A noble attemp on trombone but it really needs to be heard on a good church organ with the right accoustics to send shivers down your spine.
but an organ cant adjust to parts of a chord the way a slide can. the reason i hate organ :) organ is all exact tone so any chord is slightly distorted because the third is never as flat as it needs to be and the fifth is never as sharp as it needs to be.
q, the Monet Prana, BT-1L, when I got it (first one out of production when they released it), was $495.00 US + shipping. It may have gone up due to the 24kt gold finish. You can google Monet mouthpieces and check. They offer smaller bass and tenor bone mouthpieces, with smaller backbores, so you can pick and choose. You can even call and talk to them about what you may need.
Si bien tuve mis reservas al encontrar esta versión, reconozco lo bien resueltas que están las dificultades que ofrece la obra, el resultado es ASOMBROSO! realmente me emocionó la ejecución mis humildes felicitaciones!!!
You've never heard this properly played, live, on a concert organ, didn't you? Actually "heard" is the wrong word here, you "fell" a pipe organ just as much as you hear it, especially in this piece...
honestly some of the cleanest playing i have ever heard from a trombone quartet
Because typically the trombone is a messy instrument to play unless you know what you're doing
This truly proves how beautiful a trombone can sound and play when you are really good.

Just playing a steady 4/4 is crazy enough, but sustaining these trombone gymnastics is truly amazing
Any of y’all still listen to this every once in a while?

What a beautiful treatment of this piece! Gotta love the bass trombone - powerful and great tone (well... all of them have great tone!)
I wish I could play my trombone even a fraction of that good.

Amazing. As a trombone minor in college, I have great admiration for these guys.
What Bach would probably say about? Fantastic guys!
This is very special. Nice job guys! And this looks like it's memorized...without a single hesitation!
Some of the best tombone playing I've ever heard. Wonderful!! You folks are amazing.
