Hi Chris. Thanks so much for this information. My wife’s CLA200 roof was doing the same thing. I looked at the ‘sex-bolt’ screw set you tightened and sure enough it was unscrewed on one side. It was a bit like building a ship in a bottle, but I managed to screw it back together without removing the glass panel. You saved me a huge amount of time/aggravation/money. Legend! Thanks again.
I think once one is able to remove the glass safely it all looks like dried, bent, broken or fixable parts. My C230K worked fine until summer came and decided to open it more than 5 inches while driving 70 mph. Usually, IMO, it amounts to a bunch of noise as I am still running it on the original cassette tape radio, circa 2003. While my rear lift feature works still, and the shade is operable (closed mostly). I managed to use some tweezers to get all the plastic-y parts that were cluttering up the railing and preventing the wind guard from closing to get that proper flush close so I could wash it weekly. This was my project car and bit by bit I am certainly having to replace plastics all about the car. And at this point I will just say thanks for posting, sorry I was late in commenting. Doordash keeps me busy of late.
Thx Chris! Good information and video. My wife has a 2015 C300 W205 and I’m in the middle of replacing the front sunroof sunshade. Tackling this work ourselves saves a ton of money - honestly, the issue you are fixing in the vid probably would have cost you $500 if you took it to a Mercedes dealer. And that’s assuming they would fix it correctly. I’m replacing the front automatic sunshade which totally ripped out of the tracks due to a botched warranted job @ a Mercedes dealer. They replace a couple plastic parts about a year ago that hold the back sunroof guides in the track. In taking it apart I can tell the new plastic parts were forced into the track and caused this sunshade issue. BTW what type of auto manufacturer uses plastic parts in sunroof assembly? They bake in the sun all day and exposed to the cold in the winter - what type of plastic is not going to crack? The issue you dealt with here - you pay a premium for a nice set of wheels you shouldn’t have to be dealing with this kind of BS IMHO. Ok my rant is over - my hats off to you for doing your own troubleshooting, saving some cash in the process and taking the time to post this video - good man!
Hey Chris, you mentioned that the right side was a quarter inch higher than the left when the sunroof was closed *manually* , how did you close it manually?
can you show how you removed the panoramic roof, I have the same issue and Mercedes Hampton VA is charging me $2,500 for it and now they jist made it worst, it won't open and or close anymore.
Park Place Mercedes is trying to charge me over 5k, and that’s to insure just incase the glass breaks. If it doesn’t break my total would be $2300. Never getting a sunroof again.
I got the same issue, the problem is it won’t open at all now , how can i open it manually? Mercedes asked 200 £ to investigate then another 900 £ to further investigate because they “ didn’t find” the problem . Thanks
Hi mate! Can you upload a full video of dismantle the sunroof I got the same problem# with my Mercedes Benz cla250 2018 but unfortunately I pushed it hard to close it all the way and now it’s jam and wouldn’t open even when I tried to open it the motor is struggling but it seems like something holding it i went thru the warranty and they asking me for 8-9 grand and the warranty cover me upto 5 grand, I’ll really appreciate if you have full video and if you can upload cheers mate😊
I just dont know how to open this sunroof, mercedes dealer quoted around 4000$. That is the worst if had to spend that amount. Hope i find some thirdparty vendor to do something like this.
same here...2014 cla250 sport started off by not wanting to close it would pop back up and do a little dance. I took it to dealer after dealing with prob for 4 months and shot myself in the foot cuz it was out of warranty by a couple of months. They told me i had bent the plastic rails and for them to fix it proper it needed new rails and clips.......same amount 2300 to 2700 wtf??? can anyone help?? im in hollywood florida looking for a Mercedes tech who will work on this cash
My sunroof did the same thing I spend over 4,000.00 dollars to get it fix last month April 2022 now a month later April of 2022 30 days later my sun wouldn’t open so I am out of 4 thousand dollars from Prestige European auto repair
Good info, bad footage. Should've shown us up close,.pointed out up close what screw, wire, etc that we're to be setting. Especially since we cant see you do it up close. Before you put the camera down dont just say it, walk us through quickly and up close please...otherwise pretty good.
Jc Sanchez Take out the 4 Allen screws at the front of the glass. Lift gentally, manually slide the panel back till the rear clips slide out of the track

Same issue on the sunshade on my cla 250 2020, sunroof won’t even open because the sunshade can’t reel all the way back. How did you fix the problem?

How did u get the panel off?
Parks Place Mercedes is trying to charge me 5k and that’s to insure if the glass breaks in covered. If glass doesn’t break it will be $2500.
maybe the recall will fix such issues. Mine opens fine but will not close w/o stopping 2 times first
