Thanks. I wish I had time to provide subtitles in multiple languages. But I was an instructor for multiple years, and I had a speech impediment growing up, so I understand the value of clear diction. I wish I had the resources to do more for those who do not speak English as a first language.
The reason wire manufacturers have no idea what a minimum bending radius is is because it's a hydraulic concept. This cabling seems to work for hydraulic routing as well. The minimum bending radius is extremely important for hydraulics. Either way, superb video!
Not just for hydraulics. I’ve been in many vehicle builds where we couldn’t route cable harnesses because we couldn’t get them around corners or through a 90 degree bend from a connector to its path. MBR is difficult for them because they have multiple suppliers for their raw materials.
Amazing video!!! Could you please make a video about piping, especially about how to route and how to modify these routes. I'm using it but every time that I need to change them I need to delete all and reroute everything again. Thank you very much!
Hey Dave! Your videos are so important for the experience I have gained in the past year. Thank you for that. A question though, I have a cable that is longer that what the CAD will route. I am wanting to coil the cable to show the exact length, what is the best way to go about that??
You can use the Fix Length command if you know how long the cable should be. I add coils to the cable by adding locations that force the cable to go around in a loop.
What if you create a harness and one of the wires has changed from BLK 20 awg to RED 22 awg, how do you change the spool? It greys out in the spool section?
Great video! I have trouble with some of my cables and I get the symbol "Incomplete cable". Do you have a video with cable troubleshooting which addresses this problem?
I don’t have that video. You can always look up error messages in the PTC Knowledge Base. Do all the wires of all the cables start and end at designated entry ports?
Thanks for the demo. I used this video to introduce wiring into my Arduino model for the first time, and missed some basic definitions. The video itself is easy to follow and copy , but it's hard to find the true meaning of harness vs. spool vs wire. I will try and find out !
A harness is a part file in Creo that contains wires, cables, and routing information. A spool defines the properties of the wires and cables you route, like thickness, color, and bend radius. A wire is a single conductor of electricity. A cable consists of multiple wires.
@@CADPLMGuy Thanks. I figured out what spools were for, the button icon kind of confirms what you explained. Now I can work with one harness instead of a single harness per colour !
Is there a way to add your entry and exits datums at the assembly level? My connectors were not modeled with the appropriate datums, and they cannot be modified.
@@CADPLMGuy I could, but that wouldn't be ideal. I assume I cant add an entry point datum in the same assembly as where the cable is installed. The datum would just be higher up the model tree than the cable. I tried doing it but was having issues, it wouldnt let me select that specific datum.
It should be, provided you model the cable in a way that its routing can update during the mechanism motion. The best way to find out is to create a simple example and test it for yourself.
Hello! I did manual Cabling in Creo 4.0. How can we apply multiple colors to different cables? I created spools with different colors but those colors are not reflecting on actual cables.
The problem with this method are the dependencies it can create in parent assemblies. Updates on the cable often require updates on the assembly so can be time consuming through a config management point of few.
For a simple assembly like this, it's not an issue. Please see my other cabling videos where I use Skeletons and Data Sharing Features to manage references. Also see my video on the Shrinkwrap feature where I cover Manual Collection. The point of this video was to show the basics of manual cabling, and not to get into a full blown discussion of managing references.
Is there a way to make sure your harness does not break with you add fixed length? Do you add the fixed length prior to adding locations? Very good video, I learn more from you than from PTC!

I've seen most companies use industry-leading ECAD software like Altium or OrCAD and then bring the necessary information into Creo via IDF or IDX. I think PTC made the right decision not to compete in the PCB design space when that's not their wheelhouse.
@@CADPLMGuy For PCB add-on, Solidworks uses Altium and Fusion 360 uses Eagle. What Creo will use for their PCB module in the next 5 years would determine their IoT direction, I think. By the way, the Raspberry Pi has joined the microcontroller industry -- their new Pico board (many pinouts) looks promising. Enjoy designing complex PCB with Fusion 360.
I always assumed it was room for sheathing and cosmetics (ties, wraps, and markers). You can always change the height if you want the cable lying right on the surface.
Hello, Mr. Martin. I want to start by saying thank you for all of your videos, they are incredibly helpful! A question regarding cabling: Is it possible to make 2d drawings in Creo Parametric with dimensions, i.e. radii, lengths etc. from harness/spools created in the cabling application? Or would you need to use creo schematics for that? My company currently uses sweeps to represent all of their cabling and I'm trying to find a better, more efficient way to create cables and still be able to make a parametric drawing of them. Any help and or information is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
