I see you using a SmallRig Cage, do you recommend this for everyone?
4 years later and this video is still amazing, relevant, and useful. Job well done.
Always very good instructional videos. I dont know anyone else going in depth with any camera more than you have with the A6000. That's why I haven't wanted to change or upgrading it. I have learned so much. Thanks!
This! This is exactly what I need for my next trip! Focus peaking makes it a lot easier to do manual with a manual lens.
You approach to instructional videos is excellent. I'll be going on a tour of Europe next May and have decided to pick up a Sony a6000 for the trip. This will be my first true digital camera (apart from phone cam) so these kind of vids are exactly what I've been looking for. I did some photography back in high school many moons ago with my old Pentax SLR but I've forgotten most of what I had learned during that time.
I had been looking at the Sony SEL35F18 as my likely second lens after the Kit lens but was hesitant to lay out the cash before regaining a little more knowledge and skill. The Meike lens is perfect for learning the art again!
I bought this lens on your recommendation a couple of days ago (for my a6000). Went out to shoot tonight and took one of the best photos I've ever shot. Thanks for the great tutorial!
Hey man, thank you so much for great beginners tutorial. It is really appreciated.
Wish all the best to you and all loved ones!
Dude. This tutorial was awesome! It was super in-depth, clearly a lot of effort put in, very easy to understand; helped me choose between Meike and the kit lens for when I got my A6000. Thanks a lot, keep it up!
I can see why you're a teacher now .. great stuff, I needed to understand more in depth focus peaking for using the Samyang f2.0 with the a6500. thanks ..cheers!
I’m using this same lens with my a6500, I watched and found this video helpful to knock the rust off, haven’t used a manual lens in a while and have been testing the zone focusing the same way he demonstrated in the video, with the action hero figure at the focul distance in feet, I also flip the back panel up on the camera to kind of use it like look down viewfinder camera, great video, subscribed, thank you for taking the time to put the video together and posting it
Just want to thank you for this video. I’ve been shooting with my manual lens the wrong way all this time. The Focus peaking technique blew my mind. Thanks!
Your teaching style is fantastic! Down to earth, practical and easy to understand! You have a great gift for teaching, my friend.
Thanks, It was very helpful. I just unboxed my Meike lens and after viewing and practicing your tutorial i am completely happy with my purchase
Fantastic Tutorials, Engaging style which keeps you hooked. None of the "I know it all attitude which some of the big name vloggers exude ". Great Job.
Thank you for the video! I am getting a Meike 50mm lens for a Canon aspc and while I had to figure out some of the internal settings (focus peaking is a dream!), I definitely feel more confident in using a manual focus lens! Cheers!
Thank You, I have learned a lot about my new camera! You have great content and obviously very informative!
Really appreciate you taking the time to explain things so thoroughly!! It’s really helpful for a newbie for manual lenses like myself
Such valuable information - even all these years later! Thank you for making this!
i picked up a sony a6000 with this exact lens and followed along on how to use. Thanks for the vids keep'em coming
Thank you so much for this video. I was between the 50mm and 35mm and went with the 35 because of your video example. Awesome video! Thank you!!!
Great video man. Couldn't figure out how to get the focus zoom working on my a6300 with a manual lens. Thanks for covering that!
Thank you so much this video was a huge help as I'm just starting photography with my A5100 and Neewer 35mm F1.7 lens
Rodrigo Terranova - How well did this work with your A5100? Was it as easy as this video makes it seem?
I watched this video when i first started photography with a manual lens in 2019. I am back after not touching my camera for a year. What a great tutorial.
You're a great teacher, Danny. Thank you for this video!
Really great video - such patient tuition, going nice and slow - really well done
Subscribed after this excellent video. Super teaching style. I bought a Meike 35mm f1.7 recently but didn’t know how to use it. Now I do! Thank you!
I love your videos, watch often as I have an a6000 and you make learning so much easier!
A lot to take on, well done for sticking with it. Very helpful. Thanks for the hats work much appreciated...
Amazing! I watched till the end and learn bunch of meike lens. Thanks for sharing
Quite informative and well delivered. The focus mag shortcut will come in handy. Thank you sir.
I was shooting today with a old Sigma 70-200 Constant 2.8 manual lens and love it. Great Video.
This is the best detailed video on how to set up the manual lens.
It's so good, thanks. I hope you'll produce more clips like this
Great video! Super educational especially for beginners like me who don't know too much of the more technical jargons used in photography. Extremely detailed but in a more simplified manner. If that makes sense.
Very good video man! I liked the way you explained everything
i just purchased this lens and this tutorial is really helpful!
This was an amazing video! Thank you so much for your effort and preparation, as well as super clear explanations :)
You're such a great teacher! Thank you!

video. Thanks that1cameraguy!!
i really enjoyed this tutorial. thanks
Thank you so much, I learned a lot from this! Great tutorial.
OMG - thank you! I've been trying to figure out how to use the focus magnification thing for a bit but didn't get that it was a two step process. Sometimes focus peaking just doesn't give me the certainty I want. Oh, you should know...the little ad that's on the bottom of the screen is asking me if I'm concerned about cleaning my gutters....
I'll be snagging the Meike lens soon and I have my 5100. So I needed this better explanation. Thanks.
This is one of the best tutorials for manual lens 🎉

So helpful. Thank you
I’ve been using my Sony a6000 since 2014 and now I can do Focus Peaking Technique- Thank you very much. In a few minutes I’m going to hit the street to make some pictures.
Great lens, I have use it for a month, and feels good, especially for potrait mode, but, have a soft vignette affect in edge of the picture.
LOVE YOUR VIDEO !!! Thanks !!
Good video. I mostly shoot with vintage lenses with my A6000, and I have about 30 of them in my collection. I enjoy using manual focus. I usually use AF lenses for moving subjects. Instead of using M mode, I normally use the A mode so I can just ignore the shutter speed. I also set Auto ISO, so the camera will automatically adjust ISO and shutter speed. On occasions, I use S or M mode.
Programmer Qn Will you prefer the Meike 35mm f1.7 lense when shooting a portait picture?
What adapter (with lenses) you use the most?
@@shunel8407 Portrait lenses are more around 85mm to 100mm with the choice of a wide aperture if possible F2 to F2.8. A 35mm lens is very suitable for a perfect walk around lens for taking street photography or any type of photography when you are traveling. The focusing on wide angle lenses is not as critical as telephoto lenses.
Very helpful thank you.
Thanks man.helpef me a lot
Thank you so much....
You're great teacher
What an amazing in-depth video! Thank you very much for taking the time to do this! So much information. NGL - I listened to you at 2X lol. Question for you: Do you recommend using this lens at a fixed distance for video interviews with a Sony A6000/A6400?
Great tutorial!
