New data shows more people moving out of San Diego County than moving in

- Newly released census data shows San Diego County saw a big dip in net domestic migration. In 2023, the County saw nearly 31,000 more people move out than move in, almost double the number from a year earlier.
San Diego is fast becoming a tale of two cities where extreme wealth meets extreme poverty.
...has become...
@@philipiano001 Agreed, it is that
Crime and BUMS is what is heard nationwide 😅😅
Not nation wide, mostly in the corrupt failed Democrat controlled Charcoal State of California!
we cant buy a $1,200,000 house or pay $2500 for a newer apt.
Not many can. Even if I could, I'd still go to a lower cost of living area.
San diego and Calif taxes are so high, and the money is wasted.
Roads are terrible in SD; massive potholes everywhere
Bye.
Voters approved higher taxes eventhough they can barely pay their rent. Lack of common sense here
Nah. Not money is wasted. Not “money is wasted.” /
I’m moving apartments in June because my lease is up and I have to and I’ve found that because it’s “summer” season and everyone is moving that renters can raise rent by 400-500 dollars for the “busy” season just cause they can. That’s bullshit to me, and now I’ll be stuck in a lease paying 500 dollars over the actual rent price of my complex for a another year. That’s an extra 6,000 a year I’m losing out on because of dumb greedy rules like that. Have someone change that please.
I totally agree, the rent of house, apartment, studio, condo are too high and seem to some politician did not care about it. why? why???
Inflation affects 99% of us. Welcome to the club. We have inflation in housing, transportation, food, medical, clothes, school, everything. You suffer high housing inflation and I suffer high food prices inflation. I can't just go into a supermarket and demand they cut prices by 30%, why are you demanding housing costs be brought down? The whole situation is messed up, not just housing.
@@diegoflores9237 I wasn’t trying to signal out the housing market inflation as the only issue plaguing the United States. I was simply explaining my situation and what I am experiencing. I am, however, demanding the prices be brought down in the housing market because it’s ridiculous. As well as every other aspect of inflation. And you should demand it too instead of being a cunt about me explaining my issues. I thankfully have a job where I make decent money and housing is the last stepping stone for me personally that I need to live comfortably. That is why I posted what I posted. Don’t be a cunt dude, I’m not knocking anyone else’s issues or anything like that I was just explaining my own. And I hope one day you have the balls to step up and demand groceries be cheaper if that is what is affecting you.
I've lived in another state and out here I notice they don't upgrade apartments or offer the best maintenance services, then if people leave they just hike up the rent- they know there's not enough housing so there's very little competition. They want you to leave so they can increase the cost of rent.
I'll be on my way out shortly also
@@coastalcam Bye.
The liberal loonies always say "bye"
Carson City Nevada looks pretty promising 🤔.....
Don’t let the door hit you on the way out. 😊
Left for work in 2013, returned in 2023, and left again, this time permanently, in January of 2024.
San Diego is more expensive than Orange County (lived in Irvine and Costa Mesa for 9 years) and LA (North Hollywood), the wages are lower, the few tech jobs it had are gone, and going out is ludicrous. The food was mediocre everywhere we went, the service lacking, the city congested, smog (I could see it coming from del Mar to La Jolla), sewage runoffs whenever it rains and beach warnings regularly - you could smell the sewage in La Jolla - it's cloudy 6-8 months of the year, the home prices are insane while the wages have stagnated behind the coastal California cities, including Orange County.
The city is fighting for its identity everywhere you look. It's definitely not what it was 10-20 or even 30 years ago. At least, we had the surfer, hang loose vibe before, but now it's completely gone.
I'm afraid native San Diegans lost the fight for the city's soul.
Thank corporations like Blackstone!
@@justagirlsd3000 more like the state government for the high taxes and regulations that cause everything to go up

You forgot to mention the high crime rates & homeless encampments everywhere that people are tired of as well. We are tired of Paying high prices to live in a shithole. Also perfectly good businesses that provide good jobs are leaving CA. It’s why we are looking to move to St. George, UT in 2 years.
Yes! I just saw a nice tent on the Big 5 website for @ 60 bucks.
Not bad!
So many of the bike paths and nice areas to jog have scary hobos everywhere - like getting worst
All of my friends have left SD in the past several years. They simply can’t afford to live here, especially ones that have kids. This is unsustainable and eventually lead to serious economic consequences and quality of life problems.
$3000. A mo for apartment
120 bucks for a nice tent
Conversations?? Seems a bit lackluster. No plans or deadlines for change.
We bought a home in Chula Vista (from Oregon retired in 2010) and we love the weather. Our house value has gone up 50%.
We don’t have an out house but good for you since its value has increased so much.
That's great, it'll help cover your bipping and jugging expenses
It's still the same old run down house though. It's really worth less, a lot less, than you paid.
you gotta pay property taxes
So we don't need new housing?
Typically comment from a NIMBY
It's not new housing 🫣......it's subsidized units.....low income, which excludes lower middle class...
It doesn’t matter how educated the workforce becomes. High taxation will drive out those tech jobs at a higher pace.
You _don't_ say.
Low wages, high rent
Corrupted leadership
Low salaries, high cost of living.
I also forgot to mention our terrible infrastructure with potholes and crumbling streets. For as wealthy as San Diego is, we have street conditions that look 3rd world. Bad priorities, higher crime, homeless everywhere, greedy landlords, expensive everything.
We’re definitely not paradise anymore. Nor are we Americans finest city.
They prioritized spending on things like bike lanes, contributing to zero emission goals.....while Sewage flows untreated from Mexico 🇲🇽......from botched real-estate deals, ongoing litigation from sidewalks , potholes, wasted water released from a non functional dam, to flooding neighborhoods. not most expensive county but rather least affordable
Lots of comments about prices being outrageous. Serious question: What specific steps should the local government take to bring housing prices more in reach?
Do homeowners share a similar vision of bringing house prices down vs values going up?
Simply just increase the tax on second or third properties. Also, they can ban investors from owning residential properties.
@@minh13101991 I agree legislation is going to have to play a lead role in shaping how investors buy properties if this is gonna work out. That’s not going to please the small/limited government leaning people, but something has to give.
@@minh13101991 How about decrease all the requirements and regulations to build additional housing- theres tons of land available for new housing to be built but too many requirements and regulations to even begin building

Every Armenian in Glendale drives a black Mercedes and has a SNAP card
Exclusionary zoning is to blame.

Poor moving out and wealthy moving in. Happens everywhere in the world in places that have good weather, good location, low crime.

Come to Oxnard and Port Hueneme, live close to the ocean with actual beaches for far less than San Diego. Oxnard shores is hidden gem, beautiful beaches with way more affordable housing as well in inland Oxnard. Close to Malibu, close to Santa Barbara. Oxnard, the secret is in the name.
Curriculum?? Need National Guard😂😂
Does it surprise anyone that Todd Gloria's lack of planning is causing folks to leave San Diego? Look at the situation with the Dam now we have to pay a high price for water simply because of his poor planning. We released millions of gallons of usable water into the ocean because of their lack of planning. Now we will pay a high price and hear about droughts when all the reservoirs are full to capacity except our hapless city that can't plan a short stretch of roads without screwing them up. I'm sick of this city leadership, they are destroying San Diego.
