I just visited LA, and I was really worried bc the city get so much bad press. It was a dream come true! City life, nature, culture, the views, mountains, the beach, the theme parks... everything you would want in a single city! The only bad things that I've noticed is that everything is SO FAR and expensive, but it is 200% worth it!
California is the world's 5th largest economy (if it were its own country), so there must be something it's doing right. Anyway, California is expensive no doubt, but it has so much more to offer. You are literally hours away from world-class destinations: Yosemite/Sequoia/Joshua Tree National Parks, Lake Tahoe, Monterrey, Big Sur, Napa Valley, Carmel-By-The-Sea, Santa Barbara, Palm Springs, Solvang, Catalina Island, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, etc. You can live any type of lifestyle your heart desires..from beach life to city life, desert life or even mountain/country life. The Central Valley provides so much of America's produce, so you always get fruits and vegetables fresh! California also values innovation, it still attracts the most venture capital for start-ups in the nation. You have some of the best food in the country, due to its diverse ethnic cuisines. There's always something for everyone, from museums to theme parks, concerts to music festivals, comedy clubs to karaoke bars. California has pinetree forests and rugged mountains in Northern California, beautiful sandy beaches and serene desert landscapes in Southern California. The most powerful, populous, and progressive state in the union...it will always be the land of dreamers!

My wife's friend and her husband moved to Seattle from Orange County, CA and they came back within months. They HATED the rain and overcast weather which made them feel depressed all the time. They returned to So. Cal. and are as happy as larks. Welcome back, Shelby. 🙂
Being an immigrant from Asia, i have the same motivation as you to be closer to my family and childhood friends. I have lived in the US for so long but if the economics allows I would move back in a heartbeat not because one place is better than the other but the people and the nostalgia are incredibly powerful.
Being around creators is a HUGE change and something I don't have yet. I can TOTALLY see why that's a reason you moved back. Because being around people who don't get it, and don't have their schedules open is the WORST.
I don’t think people who live places like Minnesota can grasp how cool it is in Southern California until they experience it. Even the air feels different.
I was a travel nurse and was in LA the spring/summer before covid and i was mentally and physically the healthiest I’d ever been. I moved to Seattle permanently 3 years ago and want to go back to LA. Other than my childhood years, I’ve never been so depressed. It’s such a shame, it’s beautiful here with so much nature surrounding the city and the city itself is walkable with tons of parks…but you can only enjoy during the very short summer. People still go out in the rain but it’s just annoying. Who’s gonna sit on a wet park bench?
I live in California and I love it. I have been here over 30 years and I’m originally from Washington state. The weather is so nice and when I visit family in Washington I go in august and that is still cold.
I'm from California, but live in Atlanta, so far so good for me. However, I do personally know alot of people whom moved to Atlanta, Miami and Orlando and are moving back to California. Yes, downsouth is less regulation, cheaper housing and services, but sometimes that also means lesser pay, worse weather and less diversity.
LA could have cheaper housing but the city like many places across this country (not just LA) need to reform their zoning codes and stuff. They need to let developers build things and allow for more mixed use not just unaffordable and quite frankly unattractive cookie cutter single family houses. The solution to the housing crisis is as simple as supply and demand baby, ofc home prices are outrageous like what do people expect but we ramp up the supply & costs will go down but we need the right policies in place to do so and we need to stop bowing down to NIMBYs.
I’m so happy for you, Shelby. I completely agree with your point about taxes. I’ve lived in high tax and low tax states. Right now I’m in Florida, but my auto insurance is three times what I paid in California two years ago with no claims. I think it’s fair for people to question how their tax dollars are being spent. I would imagine there’s waste at the federal, state and city level virtually everywhere. But running to a no income tax state isn’t going to result in immediate savings unless you’re wealthy. As you noted with Texas property taxes, there’s always something. I’m glad that you chose the place that’s best for you.
These are the exact reasons I'm moving to LA from NYC! Well, except I don't have family there...but hopefully I will meet my tribe of wellness loving folks. :)
I live in Seattle and I also return to California. I didn't know that I missed the climate and the landscapes. I'm very happy. I always watch your videos❤❤ thank you.
I’ve lived in Upstate NY my entire life and always wanted to experience living in a warmer climate year round like Florida or Arizona - I never did and now that I’m married it probably won’t ever happen. Happy for you that you get the sun alllll the time! Love your vlogs and videos. ☺️
Resonate with this. Native Californian who lived in Seattle for work (software engineer). Missed the sunshine and ease of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Agree. I don't mind the taxes for the lifestyle and culture.
California is so hard to leave. You get what you pay for---you may pay more in taxes but you get stunning nature, fresh food, and incomparable coastlines. Everyone I know who left came back
Great video but it is apparent that everyone left California, drove up the costs for everyone else in other parts of the country and ended up returning to California in which they never planned to stay away which isn't really cool!! :)-
Back in the 80s I went to southern Calif for awhile and was amazed how healthy and beautiful everyone was. Grocery shopping, everywhere, people were good looking and fit moreso than any other state I've gone to.
Everything you are saying is true!! We pay for this sunshine but in return a better quality of life..We are all so active and usually always feel like were on vacation. The ocean is beautiful and we can all drive to beautiful mountains in a short time . Plus like you said Palms Springs a great get away. I can tell you made the right decision good for you!
You’re so much happier already! For buying a fixer house, last week I visited my fam in LA who bought a $700k house/property in the Dodgers Stadium area, and they have views of the Hollywood sign and downtown skyline. They’ve totally renovated the house to a modern house…Walkable to cafes and restaurants etc. What do you think of that area?
Dodgers Stadium area is near gentrification of silverlake, highland park and atwater village area. Its on the edge of gentrification and a bit dodgy. Not the greatest or safest neighborhood, since it was kind of rundown, but has been rebuilt with new construction and renovations. These are definetely not a high ROI investment considering the price you are getting it at a premium and the interest rate at the current rate. but those that want to be part of the hipster crowd - its close. Schools aren't great either. I was born and raised in LA.
I knew Shelby was going to return to Los Angeles. I commented on her channel in 2022 when she posted a video of New York City. I said to a co-worker of mine that she was going to return soon. Well, what do you know! She's back.🤪

Your videos are always thought-provoking, in the best way. Thankyou! I'm a suburban Australian, so things are different here, but you raised some good points that help when I'm considering where I (and my hubby) want to be in 5-10 years.
So well said how you stated it boils down to whether a person values the quality of life and happiness you receive here in California more than the additional tax dollars you may pay! Great vid and welcome back, Shelby!
I absolutely love and agree with everything you said in this video. Los Angeles is such an amazing city! It’s so good to see a video shinning the light on the positive aspects of it. I 💜 LA!
I live in LA, moved here from Sweden. Mostly because of the entertainment industry and always had a dream of moving to Hollywood. Buy also because of the weather and life in general 🥰
Yep, agree 100% with you on this. I love California. The weather is a big factor. The overall vibe is a big factor. However, if you have a business, you can work around a lot of the taxes. Overall, life is just better in California and that should be more important than anything else since you have only one life. Well done.
so glad to have you back in my home state Shelby!! California is an incredible state and hard to beat especially with things like the weather, the nature, etc. Your points about LA too were spot on; I totally agree that since moving here, it's very easy to be a healthier version of yourself too. Based on the vlogs I've watched of your time already back, it seems like it's suiting you really well! let me know if you ever want to hang out since I also live in LA, and as always a big fan of your videos :)
Totally agree with the point that they always get you somewhere. For instance, in Florida there’s no income tax and people think it’s super cheap. But the sales tax here is like 8%. Sales tax! So on everything you buy! Some other not tax related things like insurance is also insanely expensive, it keeps going up and insurance companies are leaving the state because they just don’t want to insure here anymore. Meaning that the companies that stay are charging through the roof. Housing and rent prices here are some of the most unaffordable in the country when you compare it to the average incomes. Every single state has its pros and cons!
If you are a renter, Tampa and LA are comparable. And food is a little bit more expensive in Florida. Gas is cheaper in Florida. But there are so many more fun things to do in Los Angeles. 😊
@dct4689okay… I live in Florida and my sales tax is 8% lmao. The state sales tax is not that high, but different counties/cities (not sure exactly which one does it) impose additional sales tax. So the actual amount varies throughout the state, I’m just saying how much it is for me
I understand the feeling, I was living in seattle area for a while (loved it) moved back to maine where im originally from to take care of some family business, but I just dont love it here in maine anymore and am planning on going back to seattle next year!
I remember your first video taking about LA, you ended it with; “it’s great, but not someplace I’d want to live here long-term.” I’m glad you changed your mind. 😁
Welcome back! Sure, real estate is expensive, but the equity you build here will outpace most of the rest of the country, and then you add the weather into the equation and it's more than worth the extra cost of entry
It’s ironic that the weather was gloomy on one of the days that you filmed. But I still completely understood your point. I totally don’t mind going to the beach or on a hike when it’s foggy. But I DO mind when it’s raining. There’s a huge difference between just gray skies, which we do get on the beach in California a lot, and actual rain, which we don’t.
I really thought you’d be moving to San Diego ! Welcome back to Sunny CA ☀️ I think it’s awesome you’re closer to your family and like minded individuals. Cheers all the way from San Diego, CA 🥂
Shelby what a great video. I love how you gave the backstory on your vlog and how crisp and fresh you made this video. I hope you do a video on Getty museum and more of the beaches as in Laguna Beach. Again so happy for you!!!
Your comment about liking to film outside and wanting to be in a place that had sun so much of the time made me laugh. So many bright sunny days was a big reason why the movie industry relocated from the East Coast to California right after the turn of the 1900s.
LA is incredible. It aint for everyone. I have a home in Texas. I've lived in many place in the US and there is nothing like Los Angeles. It needs the bad press to keep people away.
I lived in So Cal in the mid-70s for awhile. Due to finances and other reasons, I had to move away. I couldn't wait to come back but had to wait over 10 years to return. 😢 Since first living here, I've had to live in 2 horrible states until I could afford to move back here. It was depressing AF because of the horrible weather, the states' stifling culture, and nothing to do there except be bored and lonely all the time. 😭 I was fortunate to have moved back here in 1990. I've been here over 30 years and will never leave. So much to do, there are great opportunities here, and I love the diversity! Those were things those other 2 states were sorely lacking. California is where I feel at home!

Welcome back, knew you would be back, ha. For a creator like you it makes absolute sense to be here. First of all the supposed crime in Cali is over-exaggerated- for the last 20 years it has consistently gotten safer, as everyone knows California has the 5th largest economy in the world, just that means that the movers and shakers, the creators and creative are here in spades compared to in Georgia or Washington or anywhere. YOU Feel the buzz in Cali- when my wife and I moved to Georgia for 5 years we felt like everything moved so slow, it was like the state was on NyQuil. California rocks and most states love to hate us because of our supposed liberal politics. Yeah, I tell people who diss this state, go ahead and move to Texas (where the highest amount of road rage killings take place - where home prices are plummeting in major cities - where the drug addictions and trafficking are on the rise).

Being around creators is a HUGE change and something I don't have yet. I can TOTALLY see why that's a reason you moved back. Because being around people who don't get it, and don't have their schedules open is the WORST.
I’m so happy to see people like this are moving back to California
As someone who struggles with seasonal depression, California is high on my moving list 👀
I live in California and I love it.
I have been here over 30 years and I’m originally from Washington state.
The weather is so nice and when I visit family in Washington I go in august and that is still cold.
Girl you don't even have to explain. I'm rotting here in Seattle. Go and prosper for the rest of us.
The solution to the housing crisis is as simple as supply and demand baby, ofc home prices are outrageous like what do people expect but we ramp up the supply & costs will go down but we need the right policies in place to do so and we need to stop bowing down to NIMBYs.
this comment reads like something you read from one of those clickbait titles and how little to no idea what you are talking about@@yoitsniam
Diversity is why I left California.
Yeah, the pay sucks in some of these states.
Great Weather, AMAZING Food, Fun Outdoor Activities and Family.
i love that you went all caps for the AMAZING food because the food scene in California is truly AMAZING!!
Car insurance has gone up alot hear to and homeowners insurance both states are a mess
And the excessive heat in Florida really drains your energy
These are the exact reasons I'm moving to LA from NYC! Well, except I don't have family there...but hopefully I will meet my tribe of wellness loving folks. :)
Sunny LA with Hollywood is amazing !
I live in Seattle and I also return to California. I didn't know that I missed the climate and the landscapes. I'm very happy. I always watch your videos❤❤ thank you.
Yay, I’m really happy to see you in Cali and look forward to more videos with sunshine! NYC and Seattle are so dreary in the winter.
I’ve lived in Upstate NY my entire life and always wanted to experience living in a warmer climate year round like Florida or Arizona - I never did and now that I’m married it probably won’t ever happen. Happy for you that you get the sun alllll the time! Love your vlogs and videos. ☺️
That's the saddest short story I've read in a while. 🥲
I live in California and it's awesome. The weather is everything.
I'm happy for you. I was born in LA and lived there for 26 years. It really was a paradise. My heart breaks for it. 😔
Resonate with this. Native Californian who lived in Seattle for work (software engineer). Missed the sunshine and ease of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Agree. I don't mind the taxes for the lifestyle and culture.
Taxes are going much higher the state has now lost 1.3million with another 300000 plus drop.
The marine layer is way inland today all the pay to banning it happens alot

Great video. I love your content, even though I'm old enough to be your mom, I love living vicariously through you. You inspire me in so many ways.
Same lol, I'm 62
California is so hard to leave. You get what you pay for---you may pay more in taxes but you get stunning nature, fresh food, and incomparable coastlines. Everyone I know who left came back
Oh! I feel this so much. Currently living in the PNW and used to live in CA. Hope to get back there, soon. Glad this worked out for you.
Woah! That's over 30 years ago.
Lots of pros and cons about LA. Weather is great, but the big problems are the cost and the walkability.
It's fairly nasty around there and I'd be careful. RV's and tents are all over and lots of shootings.
Planning to move back too, from TX. Cant wait.
I knew Shelby was going to return to Los Angeles. I commented on her channel in 2022 when she posted a video of New York City. I said to a co-worker of mine that she was going to return soon. Well, what do you know! She's back.🤪
I didn’t realize how much I needed the beach until I left California. I’m moving back next year for these same reasons!
beach water so cold is useless
I think your videos are going to do much better in terms of views living in LA. Excited to see a house reno project when you find the right property :)
Ive always had the California dream, gonna save my money now, currently own in tx. And sell it or rent it out and jump ship to Cali in future...
Let's see what Graham has to say about this! Also I want to see more vids with "Peachy"!! Welcome home!
I absolutely love and agree with everything you said in this video. Los Angeles is such an amazing city! It’s so good to see a video shinning the light on the positive aspects of it. I 💜 LA!
I love CA geography and am planning on moving there before I die.
I live in LA, moved here from Sweden. Mostly because of the entertainment industry and always had a dream of moving to Hollywood. Buy also because of the weather and life in general 🥰
Every time I go somewhere else I’m so glad when I come back to OC California. The great weather makes a huge difference.
Yep, agree 100% with you on this. I love California. The weather is a big factor. The overall vibe is a big factor. However, if you have a business, you can work around a lot of the taxes. Overall, life is just better in California and that should be more important than anything else since you have only one life. Well done.
Hi Shelby!! I love it!! And i loved that 1st Apt too!! So glad youre back! A true California girl!! 🌴☀️🌊🏖️
so glad to have you back in my home state Shelby!!
So true!!! Finally someone is saying that!
So the actual amount varies throughout the state, I’m just saying how much it is for me
My dream came true, I moved out LA to breezy San Diego, due to outrageous rent increases, I am going to move back to affordable LA.
A year in nasty ass Seattle will change your mind.
Welcome back! Sure, real estate is expensive, but the equity you build here will outpace most of the rest of the country, and then you add the weather into the equation and it's more than worth the extra cost of entry
Great video Shelby! SO SO happy that you're back! 😊 And looking forward to your fun future video ideas!
Looking forward to a video about sunscreen usage :) Would be soooo helpful for creatives spending the days outside all the time!
Wow the lighting in LA is great for filming, they should start a film industry there.
It’s ironic that the weather was gloomy on one of the days that you filmed. But I still completely understood your point. I totally don’t mind going to the beach or on a hike when it’s foggy. But I DO mind when it’s raining. There’s a huge difference between just gray skies, which we do get on the beach in California a lot, and actual rain, which we don’t.
moved to texas 2 years ago. bcus its cheap. but cheap doesnt mean better. more cons than pros moving back to CA in a few months & i cant wait!
California is a beautiful state. I always love visiting myself. Whether it be Los Angeles, San Diego or anything in between. 😄
I really thought you’d be moving to San Diego ! Welcome back to Sunny CA ☀️ I think it’s awesome you’re closer to your family and like minded individuals. Cheers all the way from San Diego, CA 🥂
one day san diego would be awesome to live in!!
Welcome back! If I didn't live in LA I would live in a different country. 100% agree with all the reasons why you moved back.
Just the weather is worth it, lived a year in Texas and I couldn’t wait to get back.. nothing I mean nothing beats the weather in Cali.
I m a native california. But I have been noticing a shift of people coming back
I'm a 3rd gen Californian; I've had relatives who moved out in the 90's (they're in Zona or Sea).... not happy. I am, love it, I'll never leave.
The weather is perfect in coastal California. It's absolutely miserable in Palm Springs for 6 months of the year.
More like 10 months its cool and windy alot in winter, spring and fall dusty
Weather and climate is a great deciding factor. Sunny days are always nice.
Great points! Always appreciate the production value of your videos, they never cease to amaze me.
LA is incredible. It aint for everyone. I have a home in Texas. I've lived in many place in the US and there is nothing like Los Angeles. It needs the bad press to keep people away.
welcome back, love ya
You seem so happy to be back! Looking forward to seeing what videos you have planned!
The weather. That’s why you came back to sunny Southern California ☀️⛅️🌤️🏝️🌊
Regardless of politics and religion you came back to sunny Southern California.
Great video! Agree with the weather! Love it!!! Welcome back!!!
I have been following this moving series. Loving it ❤
Califorina is the nicest state weather wise
don't like the weather here. miss 4 seasons.
I'm starting to get tired of LA BUT i can't leave because the weather is that good!!! LA was so much better in the late 90s early 2000s.
Love your videos. Yes! LA is the best. Love it for so many reasons. So happy you are back!
Welcome back. We missed you. ❤
wow this is kinda crazy. im literally moving to LA from Seattle in 2 days. I randomly searched "moving to LA" on youtube and your video was the first I clicked. im taking this as a good sign. :)
Happy to see Shelby back in her Cali girl era! I know this next chapter is going to be so good!
Great video! I agree that videos do look better when it's sunny and I'm more likely to click on it if a video is brighter!
Welcome back and I love SoCal weather plus better surf! 🏊♂️🏄♂️
