- The third instalment of our video series FRAME Views: Communal Living sheds light on a timber living complex conceived to evoke an inherent feeling of unity.
Containing 273 homes, Amsterdam mixed-use residential building Jonas is found in developing neighbourhood IJburg. The BREEAM Outstanding-certified project was guided by social and environmental sustainability, with 70 per cent of units in the affordable rent category. Based on that of a timber ship, the complex’s architecture serves to give the residents a ‘sustainable and inviting heart’, instilling a sense of community. A canyon-shaped public route runs through the core, uniting the shared facilities, from a bakery and restaurant to cinema. ‘With small additions, you can already make a building that gives a lot of possibilities to the inhabitant for collective use. . .that’s quite important for the future,’ says Paul Kierkels, architect and project leader at Orange Architects.

US and Canada could never build anything like this, only their Tech companies make cool stuff like this.
Why is a white guy helping other countries making these projects you can see in other videos a white guy says “ we did this to India ”
