When I first started seeing the Grateful Dead in the early 80s, I became slightly obsessed with what Bob Weir was doing as a rhythm guitarist. There was a lot of clicking and chucking and chiming, harmonics here and there and power chords too. Jerry got the crowd excited but Bob was working his fucking ass off up there. When I saw the Wolf Bros project a couple times last summer, he was still doing it. I turned to my son and said, "If you're wondering what Bob Weir's been doing up there for the last 55 years, this is it." It wasn't obscured by what a bunch of other musicians were doing. The guy is probably one of the most creative guitarists who's ever lived.

Bobby kicks ass , and he carried the band through the mid 80s. Yes he was called Rock Star Bobby , but he earned his way . Shit he carried the band through the 90s as well.

For about a year I questioned why Bobby was so revered as a guitar player. I never heard him, but that was because I had been SO hyper focused and lasered in on Jerry (or John). Then, I was listening to the Sugar Magnolia from The Closing of Winterland 12/31/78 and all of a sudden I heard him clear has day doing his thing. Clinking and clanging and jangling and it’s so wonderful. I’ve never heard another guitar player like him. God bless the Dead.

    It's so easy to slip
    It's so easy to fall
    And let your memory drift
    And do nothin' at all
All the love that you missed
All the people that you can't recall
Do they really exist at all
Well my whole world seems so cold today
    All the magics's gone away
And our time together melts away
Like the sad melody I play
Well I don't want to drift forever
In the shadow of your leaving me
    So I'll light another cigarette
And try to remember to forget
    It's so easy to slip
    It's so easy to fall
    And let your memory drift
    And do nothin' at all
All the love that you missed

This is the real Bobby and the Midnites I saw live in 81, not the brainwashed MTV imposters that recorded that horrific Living In America video. I'd like to hear Bobby explain how that debacle came about. Alphonso Johnson was a kickass bass player who laid down a solo at the show I saw that earned him a high five from Bobby. You can see and hear his greatness on this song alone.

I remember an interview with Jerry about Bobby. He said "Bobby just doesn't play the way most guitarists play, and we're good with that.

“…DID they EVER exist at all?” would have been my choice if I penned it. But I could never.

Billy is the most powerful drummer I’ve ever seen. His drums are likely bolted down 😂

He doesn't sound or look *this* young, but this tour he sounds and looks great, hope he keeps on doing whatever it is. And I wish they would rip this tune just once! haha

How do you feel about everything 6yrs later, all incarnations of Bobbys various groups. Company, Wolf Bros, solo, etc. Tbh I feel like he butchers Jerry songs. I love Bobby but so many other musicians sing Jerry songs better imho.✌
