Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with everybody, you are helping many people with their dreams about drawing and painting, to recover from sadness for depression, you are a blessing in people's lives. Jesús loves you and keeps you safe and He blesses your life. Amen
This is amazing I’m trying hard to update my drawing skills and this method helped me a lot thank you so much I really appreciate it and yet I’m still going to watch and learn more 😊😊
Thank you so much. I took an intro art course last night, and the instructor forgot to mention the part about making that first line on the page, and that everything else would be in proportion to the starter line. It was very confusing, but you made it make sense.
I didn't know I was doing this subconsciously! I always think in terms of fractions and relate them to other parts of the subject but I haven't really thought of doing this with a pencil. Thank you!
I am getting serious about my outdoor sketching. I am so happy to have found and subscribed to your channel. My trip to the Grand Canyon next March will be wonderful and I will be prepared to "see" the magnificent landscape and capture it's beauty.
So glad my channel has helped your drawing, good luck at the Grand Canyon. Thanks for subscribing, perhaps you could recommend my channel to them too. Thanks Paul
Thank you Paul, I always keep watching your videos. You give a detailed idea about every drawing which is helpful for beginners like me. I'm so glad to have found your channel. Now i am able to develop my drawing skills slowly. Thanks again.
Great video! This is the most important part of any drawing and yet I couldn't find any other good reference for that. Can't thank you enough for this excellent tutorial!
I'm taking an art class in College and the teacher put Part 1 and Part 2 here in Canvas, and all I gotta say is, WOW, the way you made it look so accurately by structuring it out the way you did was nothing short of amazing... GREAT job man, I'm subbing to your channel right now!👌
You are fab!! I don't draw in this way anymore I am out of practice. Not good, considering I am hopefully going to be teaching art in High school next year, if I am successful at my interview next week. I was looking for ideas to teach a small class - basic observational drawing. I only have 30 mins. I have started a simplistic powerpoint. I think I might use the shading, tone, edges, outline with geometric shapes, idea. Thank you so much.
+Andronicus Kenny Glad the video helped your preparation for your interview - good luck with that. Not much point in doing anything unless you can enthusiastic about it - that's what I believe anyway. Cheers Paul
There are worse things in life. When I was a kid I drank Corona (it was a brand of fizzy pop) I hope your drawing improves having watched the video. Cheers Paul
Very helpful video, thank you for this amazing guidence🙏🙏. This video is very helpful for me, because I am preparing for entrance exam. Its too helpful, thank you sir 😊😊😊😊. You are very good teacher ☺️☺️. Many things I want to talk you, but my English is not so good😅.
What's a good way to draw the actual objects? I'm finding it hard to measure the objects I chose due to the angle and size. I have been told to not use a screenshot and rather just draw the objects itself
nice video.i guess pencil measurment method is the best.Even to draw portraits . as many methods are taught here in youtube and other places .what you opinion about it?
Thank for this important knowledge. I just wonder why you must have an arms length? I don´t see so well. Can´t I have something closer but always the same?
Paul Priestley What about a magician that draws, do they have even more tricks, I'll let you know. I draw, that is not how I do it, but I do have some tricks I use, never thought about using a pencil. So I might try it next time I draw. I will have to check out more of your video's. You might of added make sure you are also standing in the same place when you do it. Other wise good video. I know it is common sense, but face it most people lack that.
Thank you. This was most helpful. I'm just starting to learn about the idea of measuring still lifes with a pencil. It seems like it could be quite useful.
Thanks! I’m 11 and applying for Osceola school of the arts this years. and still life is one problem I have currently, it’s timed with the audition and I’ll be using this
Anyone ever thought about using the same technique but using a clear ruler? Could get really accurate measurements using your thumb and the markings on the ruler.
I suppose you could, but it would be very awkward. Besides it is not so much about accurate measurement as training the eye to compare sizes and shapes so no physical measurement is required when experience takes over.
@@PaulPriestleyart Thank you! I'm using a lot of your tutorials since they are simple (one object at a time) and done slowly so I can follow every step on the way. They helped me immensely. +Ellie Ellie Don't worry you'll be fine, just draw your best and remember tho keep your wrist loose when drawing lines to suggest curves and movement . Paul

What's a good way to draw the actual objects? I'm finding it hard to measure the objects I chose due to the angle and size. I have been told to not use a screenshot and rather just draw the objects itself
Forget that the object is something particular, like a cup or a plant. Just look for the shapes and use the method described to measure the shapes.

Whatever works. Spectacles are fine.
Thank youuu so much for this ♥️

how accurate is this method for scaling - enlarging or reducing?
It is not, you have to use other methods for that.
nice video.i guess pencil measurment method is the best.Even to draw portraits . as many methods are taught here in youtube and other places .what you opinion about it?
I prefer the pencil method.
Thank for this important knowledge. I just wonder why you must have an arms length? I don´t see so well. Can´t I have something closer but always the same?
It has to be arms length so the distance is consistent. With out that consistency the measurements would vary.

I can easily measure because I have a ruler printed on my sketching pencils!
Yes, that's great, but the real skill is to do it without the ruler.
How we can measure the angles in drawings?
+reza mirreza Use the same methods, remember this is not maths it is art
What we will do when the object is very far away form us????
You use the same methods
Good. Unfortunately, I have nowhere to set up still life subjects.
That's a shame, so draw what you see around you instead. Cheers Paul

What If I just measure with a pencil and replicate exact same lenght on the paper, would it work?
Not sure exactly what you mean, but there is only one way to find out, try it.
My son said that you come to his primary school Castleview he's now in year 7
I don't go to schools anymore, but I did visit Castleview on many occasions. Really good school. Good luck to your son in his new school. Cheers Paul
It's not difficult!
Me: Now, how the heck do I draw this line?
Agreed
lmaooo same
But I can't hold my arms all the way out due to medical problems
Just hold your arm as far as you can. What matters is the distance has to be consistent when taking the measurements.
