Thank you for posting this! As someone who has embraced drawing and painting as my main hobby and passion in adulthood, it's difficult to overcome the hurdles of technique where my instincts fall flat. I never attended an art class beyond elementary school, so it's people like you who are my teachers! You have no idea the value this simple technique has added to my life. Thank you again!
Can I just love you for a moment? Come on just let me love you? Feel it man feel it 😂😂🤣🤣. Do you know how hard it was for me to trully understand drawing a still life accurately? I've done many pieces and it's so time consuming when I couldn't get the proportions right. I thought it was my eyes. I thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for helping me with such a project. For many years I have put off drawing still life the way I wanted to because I felt intimidated. You my friend have helped me tremendously. I even created a playlist for I can look back to review a few things I've missed. I have also shared this video sending your link with a couple friends I know. Now you see I can say Aha!! to my cousin that is so good at drawing and I can tell him I can do that too !! Again thank you so much. Have a blessed day 🤗.
Why your playlist has so less collection of videos of still life. I am a beginner and want to learn still life drawing and memory drawing as well. I need your help, i am not getting basic tutorials from anywhere. I have my entrance exam so i want to learn all these. I have very less time left please help me. 😢 Atleast suggest me something i have only two months.
I assume you have watched all my still life videos. The main one is about measuring, Part 1, because you could apply the ideas to any still life drawing.
Hi there Paul. This is such a simple yet easy to grasp tutorial. I want to do a still life oil painting and the technique you taught in this video is really going to help me ! thank you so much
What did you use to rub out the lines with Paul??? It looked like a piece of steel wool ! I make such a mess when I have to rub out so often I’m just learning by watching your great video, I want to learn by your videos I’m 83 last week so I don’t have many more years to go I love the way you teach so I’m hoping you will let me know what you rub out with so at least I can keep my work cleaner please, I’ve drawn a tree 🌲 trying to shade but not so good I’m having to rub out so much then I have a mess so I’m hoping that you can help me out please Paul I live in Australia 🇦🇺 I’m so glad I found your videos they are great 👍🏻 cheers Roger.
Hi Roger, happy birthday for last week. The eraser I'm using is called a putty rubber in England. It's kneadable, therefore you can mould it into shapes for rubbing out delicate bits. Cheers Paul
Thank you! Great lesson; your instruction is very clear and your visual is very effective. What do you use as an "eraser"? It looks like a gentle way to remove grid lines.
+Sandy Piltch The type of eraser I use is called a putty eraser. You can mould it into shape and it is very flexible. Most good at shops will have them. Cheers Paul
Excellent explanation! But why didn't you draw this over the measurements in the firt part? That got me confused a little bit, because how am i going to combine the previous measurements to this new way of measuring? Thanks anyways ❤️
Not to be disrespectful, but it looks like the base of the candle is too thick. I think this may be because the vase is off center which affects the thickness of the candle base. Still, it's a helpful video. It's amazing that you can get such accurate measurements this way. One thing I struggle is getting proportions correct. I hope to learn more your other videos.
It is an accurate way of creating a drawing. But remember people only see the finished drawing or painting not the object or scene it is taken from. The artists job is to create something that works, Monet for instance would often move trees etc. To make his painting work rather than slavishly copy what read infront of him.
Sorry you find the video to fast. It is a lot slower that most on TH-cam though. Probably the best thing to do is watch small sections at a time and stop it after each section to give you time to do the drawing. Cheers Paul
Nevermind, just saw the same comment & response below. You may want to consider adding affiliate links on your video description for which tools you're using! I would definitely buy the same type of eraser you're using on Amazon. As a beginner, I truly don't know what tools are best. Thanks for the great videos.
I love the idea of a free tutorial for everyone to see but you are missing a lot of key points for example you can't have an accurate still life without ellipses and center lines, you are giving some correct and useful information but leaving a big and important part out.
This video is part of a series and covers all you need to create a still life drawing accurately. You might check out this video if you need more info on eye level and its effect on the ellipse.
Part 1 Calm and Understandable. Part 2 5 seconds in AND DRAWS LIKE A BILLION LINES AND ACTS LIKE ITS "NORMAL". expects us to draw good and understand these lines
Interesting, how people exaggerate, 72 seconds after starting the drawing I have actually drawn only 12 lines, but hey, what's 999,999,928 missing lines between friends. Seriously though, if you find the intro a bit quick why not stop the video after each section? You can see which part each line refers to by looking at the photo as the lines are duplicated there. That way you should be able to follow the video. Cheers Paul
Oh dear, this needs to be broken down right from the off for me - it's way too fast, especially compared to the first one in this series. Not a clue within ten seconds of my viewing (I'm on my fourth attempt with lots of pauses!).
i just absolutely adore how he just enters the frame from the side like that ugh protect him
Cheers
Paul you are such a great teacher
Just superb videos. Paul, you have a great way of explaining things and enthusing me. Thanks
Cheers, much appreciated. Paul

your very good at explaining how to draw, I wish you could fix, the audio problems; some of your videos have.
Can you point out which videos and the problem you are having? Thanks

How did you determine the angle for the diagonal line in your triangle?
Just join up the diagonal between the horizontal and vertical line
this is amazing but my question is, whether this is what you absolutely need to do
You don't need to do anything you don't want to. What I'm suggesting works it's up to you whether you want use it. Cheers Paul
Very good work!!😎😋😀
+Gamer Girl I bet your drawing is great too! Cheers Paul
omg!!! to good

Great Tutorial Paul.
How can I slow it down lol. You work very quickly. I cant go as fast as you . Ha

Just play the vid. on half speed
On a computer you can go into You Tube settings and slow it down.

It's a soft putty eraser, you can get them in most art shops.
hey....how to draw water flow....
If we have to directly from a real still life then what i will do. ???
You use the same methods outlined in the first two videos. It really is all about looking and understanding what you see. Cheers Paul
helpfull thank you

Wut da hieck omg you commented on my comment.
Sry Paul I tried to improvise But its still so hard maybe this video isnt made for me.
Except my teacher talks for ever to the point we only have 5 min to do a still life but we really are supposed to have 20 min
+Joi McLeod What a shame, maybe you could practice the drawing at home. Cheers Paul

Sorry that is seems to fast for you. I can't suggest anything other that stopping it occasionally as you are doing.
I’m completely lost
Did you start with still life video 1? You need to watch that first and keep practicing.
Its very hard
The best things always are
Sweeet

sir toooo much difficult
Don't listen to Sophia, Zahra. Maybe still life isn't where you need to start, but drawing is for everyone.
Sophia Elisa no sense dude
Sophia Elisa girl**
CTheCheese but this way this man draw is so complex it is better draw it using the first video technique
You draw wrong buddy, proprtions are not matching the reality !
The photo is not reality, drawings are always an interpretation of reality.
nice
Thanks
pls sir tranclate in hindi this vedio...
I've translated the description of the video and the one that follows it into Hindi using Google translate. I hope it makes sense. Cheers Paul
