When I was a kid, Dan did a show at my grade school, he is a very gifted and generous person. When the show was over a few kids walked him back to his car, he made us laugh by throwing his voice from his Orson suitcase. Many years have past but that kindness he showed to us will not be forgotten.
not only is he REALLY good with the puppet and talking without moving his mouth, he's also good with the hand controls, moving the moth right, the hands....ugh he's so GOOD!
Masterpiece! Everytime I feel really sad and depressed I watch this video. I watched this 100 times or more and it is still extremely funny. Dan Horn is for sure the best ventriloquist ever. Look at His amazing technique!
This guys technique with the poll attachments is the best I've ever seen. He managers to use his left hand to also express his own emotions aside from the putter control. Where did he learn to do this? Anyone using a puppet should practice with polls, just look at the advantages if you can pull it off ;)
This was produced in the early days of video 1980's most people now living in the world were not even born yet- I am happy to have preserved these variety entertainment videos for future generations to always enjoy- welcome to my show.
His pronunciation is amazing. I listened to it without watching the video and the difficult consonants were pronounced correctly, without substitutions.
oh god i saw this when it was uploaded ... glad i could stop by again by pure luck. Thank you for uploading this way back in 2006 so the people can still see this awesome video
I cannot believe some of the comments below. This guy is a genius. In no time at all he has you believing this character is real, especially with the quickfire repartee between them both. That is so difficult to do and with perfect voice and timing. His use of the rods is nothing short of brilliant. Yeah sure he has to entertain this pathetic audience but they all come along for the ride. Some of the jokes were based on topical stuff of the time so if you weren't around then you wouldn't get it. His skill in ventriloquism is masterfull. No lip movement at all and the throwing of his voice away and back from the mike, especially when the suitcase is closed is amazing. Ray Alan is his only equal I believe.
No one in Arizona knew Jeff Dunham, but every child in Arizona knew Dan Horn & Orson from the famous children's TV show " Wallace & Ladmo"- Big difference in my humble opinion. Hope You Enjoyed It.
This was 1988 Jeff must have copied some of Dan's material- Dan appeared as a regular on the longest running children's tv show in Arizona called "The Wallace & Ladmo Show" and Orson was known by many a Arizona child- This was for a older audience and one another exclusive was for Our generation
I get it now. He is great because of a maelstrom of several things: 1. He can pull off a believable act with a puppet who has no English -insert foreign country- accent. As I have come to understand, it is hard to recreate a native English speaker without moving the mouth so much. 2. He uses multiple gestures almost simultaneously two represent the body language of two interacting individuals. Notice how he uses the hand that controls the arms and hands of Orson to both precisely dictate a human-like motion in Orson and utilizes the time when his hand is high enough to make gestures that perfectly fit his own character and what he would motion when in debate. 3. There is a feeling of naturalism. Unforced, genuine dialogue between two minds of comparable intellect. Simple point. 4. His timing is spot on, directing our attention to whatever focal point he desires. Capturing our attention and, like a magician, carefully orchestrates his next manoeuvre around the words Orson has to say that might show slight movement around the mouth.
i think many people don't realize how hard it is to do this... esp when orsen's singing and his voice is supposedly wavering cuz he keeps moving away from the mic. dan has to vary his volume and keep the pitch of the song since he still remains the same dist from the mic! great job dude!
Excellent technique. With better camera view you cannot take your eyes off Orson, captivating. And if you do study Dan Horn you see he's very very good. I hope he encountered more welcoming crowds during his tours.
I see a lot of comparison with Jeff Dunham the thing I like about this guy is that I found myself really seeing the two different characters on stage. with Orson being closet to the mic, it sounded like he was closer. when he was farther. it sounded like he was farther. when the suitcase shut, it really sounded like he was speaking from in there. this guy's technique is spot on
+Dean Klebonas this guy is a great ventriloquist, but his strong point, what sets him apart, is how he makes the puppet move. that really gives life to the puppet
If you like Dan, also check out David Strassman! HE IS FUNNY AS HECK!!!! :) Especially him and his figure "Chuck Wood" :) David is my personal favorite :3
Chuck: (to Little Ricky) Go to hell, you little bastarrrrdddd. Ted E.: Mustard? Are we having hot dogs?! Chuck: I got your hot dog right here. Ted E.: No thanks, Chuck, that's a cocktail frank. Chuck: ...that hurt. Pretty sure I got that wrong. Typed it from a several year old memory. :P

His control over the hands is perfect.

GREAT Ventriloquist, but TOUGH crowd - they NEED to lighten UP.

not only is he REALLY good with the puppet and talking without moving his mouth, he's also good with the hand controls, moving the moth right, the hands....ugh he's so GOOD!

Masterpiece! Everytime I feel really sad and depressed I watch this video. I watched this 100 times or more and it is still extremely funny. Dan Horn is for sure the best ventriloquist ever. Look at His amazing technique!
I have watched many of them ....this man is the BEST I have ever seen!!!
Then you never saw Ray Alan!
I hate it when people entitle their videos 'The best....etc' But this earns the accolade. Best I've ever seen and genuinely funny. Thanks
I love that a video is 10 years old. It dates back nearly as far as the website itself
That puppet-work is amazing, so much character.
the guy's laugh made me forget this was ventriloquism
One of the best that I've ever seen
Wow, this is gold talent! I'm seriously stunned at this guys routine :)
This guys technique with the poll attachments is the best I've ever seen. He managers to use his left hand to also express his own emotions aside from the putter control. Mr. Dan, you are one of the best to me!!
I'm most amazed at how much control he has over the volume of each voice at every given time
Saw Dan Horn on a cruise last year. He was very entertaining and we laughed so hard through the whole show. What a talent he has!
Very talented.
Amazing!
This was produced in the early days of video 1980's most people now living in the world were not even born yet- I am happy to have preserved these variety entertainment videos for future generations to always enjoy- welcome to my show.
That was very funny. the Orson puppet was hilarious. I laughed when Orson burped into the microphone.
woah, that was awesome. It's cool how he made it look like they were actually fighting

Out of all the ventriloquist I have studied Dan makes the figure look more alive then the best of them. His reaction to the puppet are so real.

I don't know if any of you are vents but. Dan horn is always at venthaven and is a awesome dude and does awesome lectures
I've seen Jeff Dunham do most of this stuff too, except the way he moves the arms with those two sticks, that was just amazing.
This was 1988 Jeff must have copied some of Dan's material- Dan appeared as a regular on the longest running children's tv show in Arizona called "The Wallace & Ladmo Show" and Orson was known by many a Arizona child- This was for a older audience and one another exclusive was for Our generation
BS Cactus Fair enough
Dan was a regular on The Longest running children's show Wallace & Ladmo in the 1970's
Willem Maas this is even better than Jeff Dunham.
Calvin F In many ways, it is.
I find it amusing that he laughs at everything he does xD
That looked like a tough crowed. But I loved it!
good stuff!
Best I've ever seen!
Why isn't the crowd amazed?! This guy is awsome!
I love his laugh. It's very cute, and he is talented to boot. Orson is a crack-up too. Great stuff.

Thumbs up from Llama. Nice to hear back from you.
I enjoy both of these ventriloquists very much!

The best!!
excellent
Mannerisms made the puppet so fcuking realistic it was eerily odd but super enjoyable.
What an amazing talent!
Handsome and full of charm did he have a successful career?
i think many people don't realize how hard it is to do this... esp when orsen's singing and his voice is supposedly wavering cuz he keeps moving away from the mic. dan has to vary his volume and keep the pitch of the song since he still remains the same dist from the mic! great job dude!
One of THE BEST ventriloquists in the history of the craft!
I like the laugh, it's cute! x)
LOL!! Dont do that again!" lol he does it again that was hilarious!!!
he has the cutest laugh ever ^.^
That echoing...WOW this guy is amazing. I love how he makes himself sound so dorky, especially in comparison to the snarky dummy.
I remember him on a show with Rosie, Orson looked different then.
This was the introduction of the new Orson.
Dan Horn is great and very funny. He enjoys his own show.brilliant
So amazing 🌸💕
Excellent technique. With better camera view you cannot take your eyes off Orson, captivating. And if you do study Dan Horn you see he's very very good. I hope he encountered more welcoming crowds during his tours.
I keep waching this over and over and I just enjoy it more for ever time. Too bad the croud is so hard on him :X
Omg wot a talent. Very clever!
how did it make it sound like his voice was in the suitcase at the end wtf mind blown
his laugh is contagious! its hilarious!
Such a talent! :D
Thanks for sharing!
Damn nice skill, good volume control
that was amazing ..lol
I see a lot of comparison with Jeff Dunham
the thing I like about this guy is that I found myself really seeing the two different characters on stage. with Orson being closet to the mic, it sounded like he was closer. when he was farther. it sounded like he was farther. when the suitcase shut, it really sounded like he was speaking from in there. this guy's technique is spot on
+Dean Klebonas Jeff does it when the puppets are in the box and it sounds very distant and enclosed. this dude is good but jeff betttterrrrrrr
+EpicNick24 Yes, agree, Jeff is better.
+Dean Klebonas this guy is a great ventriloquist, but his strong point, what sets him apart, is how he makes the puppet move. that really gives life to the puppet
He's hilarious !
Wow this guy is the best
Thanks for your comment
I REMEMBER THIS!!!
