    I wouldn't have needed this video if I could get the gloves off after a dive. This video has been great to help me reassemble them. Thanks.

      Glad to help mate, they’re a nightmare to get off especially when you need a post dive toilet. Equally you can lube them too much that they pop off too easy, it’s a fine balance.

    Hi Andy, Just got a second hand drysuit with Kubi system and decided to replace the gloves. Did the 'blokey' thing and decided I could do it without any help, turns out I was wrong 😞. Watched your video and realised I had the ring the wrong way round 🤪. So you saved me a lot of grief, cheers 👍

    Good vid, thanks for posting. Wish I'd seen this when I bought my Kubis several years ago. Had to work it out for myself.
    I'd say always have wrist seals with dry gloves over the top so a glove puncture/failure is not a catastrophe. I use a loop of string around my middle finger (not tight) and across my palm and up inside the cuff to equalise pressures and I can pull it out of the cuff seal if I get a leak so the suit stays dry (ish) inside. Looping it around your finger means you can always find it quick and it is less obtrusive than the tube from a can of WD40! And string leaks water slower than a tube so if you get a slight weep rather than a big failure you can just carry on. Practice pulling it out......
    I use silk inner liners left over from days of year-round commuting on a motorcycle in Black Bogey Land as they are thin (good feel and dexterity) and warm when wet. A small leak means you can carry on the dive with this set-up.
    I have thicker liners and next-size up gloves for 'proper cold' dives.
    I dive 'bare handed' where possible as I use touch as part of ID-ing species on a dive (I do that for work). So I do this for most of the year or wear 'yachty' fingerless thumb and index finger gloves in 'chilly' water. No issues with the Kubi neoprene wrist seals with diving gloveless. I wear two different sizes of wrist seal as my right wrist is bigger around than the left.
    I use nitrile gloves (sold for applying herbicides) as they are not black (yay!) and the material is much tougher but similar thickness and flexibility to rubber Marigolds. They cost more but last longer.
    The steel 'O' ring picks are horrid, as you point out. They can damage the 'O' rings and gouge the anodising on the cuff rings. Once you are through the anodising, the alloy corrodes fast and you get pits. I make my own picks out of plastic for the gloves/cameras or use marine grade stainless wire ones.
    Hope this is useful.

    I want to put the cuff ring lower down in the glove (To make it shorter) but I can't get it to stay in position to get that first o-ring on. Any tips??

      Hi mate thanks for watching, not done the cuff side yet as I’ve yet to even strip them down. But will definitely add to list of videos to do when I get chance to make some.

    Bit confused, why are you putting the gloves on inside-out with the fluffy bit on the outside? Mine when came fitted have the white fluffy lining on the inside of the glove. Also, what is the best way to trim off excess glove material without damaging the glove system?

    • @AndytheNorthernDiver
      @AndytheNorthernDiver  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Several reasons, the white stands out more for hand signals with your buddies, the flocked effect gives more grip (for a few dives till it wears off), I just use scissors to trim the excess off. Thanks for watching and reaching out.

    Excellent, thanks Andy. Are the Kubi Sub Zero Merino gloves any good? What liners do you use?

    • @AndytheNorthernDiver
      @AndytheNorthernDiver  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use a mix of their Icelandic wool and standard issue gloves depending on the expected temperature

    Hi Andy, thanks for the video. Does the oring on the cuff side of the kubi marked ring have to go under the ring or is it just next to the ring itself? I know the seal is made with the outer most oring.

    Hi Andy, do you have to use Kubi gloves for this, or can you use any pvc glove?

  • @mwscuba
    @mwscuba 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    can you use the system with just the cuff side and normal wet gloves. was thinking i would only use the dry gloves in the winter, cheers

    • @AndytheNorthernDiver
      @AndytheNorthernDiver  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah absolutely but I bet once you’ve seen how dextrose you can be in dry gloves you’ll never go back

    • @mwscuba
      @mwscuba 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AndytheNorthernDiver so it’s there a way to rig the gloves so you can get air into them or is it a case of using something like a straw between the wrist seal and the dry glove ?

    • @AndytheNorthernDiver
      @AndytheNorthernDiver  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mwscuba I use the elastic thumb loops through the wrist seal to balance the pressure. That way if the glove floods you won’t get loads of water pouring into the suit, a plastic straw sounds painful and likely to be dislodged.

    • @mwscuba
      @mwscuba 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AndytheNorthernDiver that sound a better idea. I’m getting a new suit so getting the cuff side factory fitted but as it’s summer and I’m skint I didn’t want to also have to have the gloves. So will use wet gloves until winter 😂

    • @AndytheNorthernDiver
      @AndytheNorthernDiver  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A cheap alternative is if you have latex cuffs you can put the dry outer gloves (marigolds) under them which will seal and give you dry gloves

      While this was not part of the video, what is your way to avoid dry gloves squeeze?

    • @AndytheNorthernDiver
      @AndytheNorthernDiver  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @avi-shai I keep the elastic loop of my undersuit over my finger and through the dry cuff, that way the glove can breath. If the glove does puncture then only a little amount of water can get in the suit. I guess you need to balance the discomfort of squeeze vs potential wet arm.
