Contra's OST has many many tracks, and they're all quite long. So it would be a ton of work haha besides it definitely wouldn't be the same without percussion. But it's on my list, I might get on it once I get out of the way other NES games I have in mind.

The variety of pentatonic scales in music of different parts of the world is immense hehe so if we get a little loose on what to consider "this same scale" then there are countless pieces of music that sound similar; mostly music of Asian inspiration or trying to evoke that. But if we try to respect this very exact scale i'm using here, then I ignore if there exist any other examples. If there's something to be gained by pinpointing the scale and naming it, at least I can tell you that it would be a Han-Kumoi scale played on A, which is one of many many Japanese modes.

This would make it a Raag (or Raga?) Bairagi scale. But this piece takes its center around A (the notes being A-B-D-E-F-A) both melodically and harmonically, making it actually the scale I mentioned in my previous comment (a Japanese Han-Kumoi scale played on A).
For this piece specifically? Couldn't have been more than a few days of practice. But you have to consider that I'm a conservatoire classically trained pianist and i've been playing my whole life 😅
