Have a black chrome on brass M4-P and absolutely love it. Pre 1984 production M4-Ps are made with brass top and bottom plates (Which is why its heavier than the M6 btw). Once they came out with the M6 in 1984 they started making M4-Ps with the same tin alloy as the M6s... which has the paint bubbling issues. When I got my M4-P years ago I made sure to get a pre 1984 model, since there are like only 15,000 brass M4-Ps ever made, and being that it and the M4-2 are literally the cameras that saved Leica, my guess is the brass M4-Ps are bound to be much more of a collector's grail camera in the future than other film Ms. They just made so few of them compared to other film Ms... even the M3 from the 50s they made like 250,000. M4-Ps are a true collectors gem when it comes to film Ms. There are so few of them its a treat to even see one... let alone own one.
Thank you for the info! I have been curious on whether this model was a brass model because that was my initial thought. But then at the store I bought it from, they defaulted to saying it was tin alloy. It does explain the weight difference I noticed! But I agree there is a lot of charm in being able to see/own a pre 1984 M4-P. I really do love the black chrome as well. This camera design really grew on me, even though I know others prefer the styling of the M6. Cheers!
I've owned the Leica M5 for about a year now, and I have to say I reckon the M4-P is probably the better 'budget' Leica option. I learned that it's much harder to find people who will repair an M5, at least here in Australia. And you still get a hot shoe, which is nice to have. Nice work mate, keep it up.
First piece of advice i always give new Leica M owners is: throw away that frigging lens cap. It will happen to you some day, trust me. You know what I'm talking about. Congrats on the M4-P. My P and 2 are 40 years + and still going.
I have never used a Leica M camera, but I have used a bunch of rangefinders - Minolta CLE, Konica RF etc...I really didnt enjoy shooting with them and prefer SLR's. Is the Leica M finder and handling that much better?
Not true! It's about the images you get. I worked for many famous photographers back in the 90s in NYC and although even back then equipment was neat, but always it's about the image.
I was your 1000
@@Film.Stories You are a legend for that! Thank you very much!! ✌🏽
Love the intro! 😂
Classic!
i love my M4-P, got it a few years ago, it’s my main film camera !

Appreciate it! The M5 is still a beauty

@@themanfromphoto it already happened to me once, thankfully just for a few frames 🤣
Just be careful in sunlight or you’ll be pin holing your shutter
Good choice , better than paying more for a worn out 6 which is same meat different gravy 😅
Correction your M4-P is not 1023. It is the letter I in Leica and your number is 023. Mine is A153. I believe they made 500 per letter in Leica
I knew that and still did the math incorrectly lol so I would be 1,523?
Great video!!!!❤🔥
I am so happy that you have a Leica !!!!👍📷
Shoutout to the homie who sold you the camera. . . Sounds like a swell guy.

No
No not really, definitely stick to what you prefer!
Mine was minty mint until leatherette fell apart 😂😂 so not the best investment)) you should get matching anniversary summicron for you camera
I'm in Linhof gang 😎🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Do you feel like you fit in now?
@@youngum78 haha thankfully, I have always fit in with the photographers i interact with no matter the camera
How much?
Too much
I need one. Coffee isn’t hitting right and the beanies aren’t fitting

wow that scene at the beginning made me want a leica even less wtf was that XDDDDDDDDDD just buy the fuji instead as an FU to leica snobs
ps i dont hate leica i hate teh leica snobs
LOL I love that a random 2000s raunchy comedy was poking fun at Leica users like that
Only minolta and Konica produced M mount bodies, Fuji didn't
Nikon S rangefinders are better.
They don’t get enough love
if people are gossiping about you not having a leica, then they are hipsters wishing they were good.
Join the cult of Leica ….. and stick a ….Voigtlander on the front!!! 😂😂😂
