Hey Jason, I hope you, Monica, and Baxter are all safe and the fires are headed away from you guys.
Great video Jason I'll watch it later
Just wanted to leave a hateful and sarcastic comment tbh. Don't really plan on watching
It might not be great
@@liammccauley9380 they have free speech y'know
I watched it, as usual it was ok... I guess...
@@liammccauley9380 cry more
It's the most wonderful time of the year (roughly 4 months until ektachrome christmas 7)
Hi Jason, hope you and your family are ok…what’s happening in LA is terrifying….
Cheers from Italy
Been checking in a few times now since your photo changed to black a few weeks ago. Hope you and your loved ones are staying safe.
Hoping that you, Monica, and Baxter are safe. The fires were scary. Love from 🇨🇦
The FM3a is a hybrid shutter. The shutter will be electronically controlled when in the automatic mode, and is a fully mechanical shutter when in manual mode. That's pretty sick.
Hope you and yours are doing good. Wish you all the best! Take your time.
Poor Monica- dating a guy who buys himself a bunch of presents right before Christmas
As an Australian who knows how damaging bushfires can be, I hope you are safe my man
I use hotdog bathwater as stopbath
try it as pre-rinse, works great as well!
Hope you are safe from the fires.
It’s really fun seeing your creative vision and style change over time! This video was a really nice surprise.
Hope you guys are all safe!
get better soon, jason
One of the many charms of your channel is that you often put in more effort than it is worth on esoteric questions nobody else would ask. Your adventures, and how you apply what you know to get these answers and techniques, are very interesting.
Jason’s back hell yeah
My prayers are with you, Monica and Baxter during the fires.
Jason I love the videos, it is always a bright spot in my day. The dry humor hits very hard for me and I love it. Thanks for all the hard work you put into your videos.
I almost had a heart attack laughing when the video started with you dubbed in brazilian portuguese. That split of a second is gonna be stuck in my mind and be save with others life-death experiences stories.
Thank you AI jumpscare! Thank you Jason! I loved every spoken phrase out of rhythm and the high pitched voice that is far from being similar with the original, and I will save this in a little corner of my heart.
P.S.: I'm already excite for the next 'An Ektachrome Christmas', is kinda traditional now. Side to side with the fattening from the holiday lunches of course. ( I don't remember if will happen this year but one can dream, am right?)
hey man love your channel and hope you monica and most important baxter stay safe out there
Dude. You've just became my favorite film photography TH-camr.
The emotion you carry in these... 👌
Aaaaahm sorry to interrupt but I want that Aerochrome filter stack formula?! 😮 Colors look amazing!
Same!!! Video on that!!
Same same. Video now father
I was about to ask the same.
@@flixbert let the horse loose now🗣️🗣️🗣️
In the short clip before that, he shows off a Tiffen Deep Yellow 15. Can't tell what's in front of it, but looks to be a CPL. Behind it is just a step up ring. I imagine there has to be more to it than just a yellow filter. But that's a starting point.
WELCOME BACK, J! Hope all is well and all, of course, but seeing your profile update was a very positive surprise. Cheers
Glad to see that even if you're shooting Ektachrome almost all the time, you're still making room for some black and white! Kentmere never disappoints! Either way, I can't wait to see what happens if you get tired of E100, though. Great film stock, but I know the experimentation bug will bite you again one day simultaneously with the siren call of a sweet new film stock you maybe haven't tried! Those vids are always so exciting! Happy new year, Jason! Keep shooting! :)
D stands for distance, as the lens communicates its distance setting to the AF system of the body it is attached to
@@AlyxEvans thats what the d always stands for, unfortunately :(
Stands for … _Did not know that._
I still haven’t celebrated Christmas yet because Jason hasn’t given us Ektachrome Christmas #6 yet!
lmao Alien Film is a bulk loader in China. They do 500t 250d 50d in both 120 and 135 format.
They still got quite a lot of 5222 in both 120 and 135 for sell
ye, apparently they purchased all the leftovers and made them into 120 film. Definitely will try this myself.
Appreciate your dedication to getting that match cut of your note pad, but not punching in to hide that you weren’t talking in that clip. It’s that kind of half assed professionalism that inspires me every day. Whole assing is for losers.
Shhhh on the Nikon gear. People will catch on. Prices will go up.
What is happening black pfp and discription saying go away??????
So many great shots in this video! I’m also happy to learn that we share love for Lost in Translation ❤
The Alien logo on the 5222 120 roll was actually a brand called Alien film in china that focus on selling and repackaging motion picture film. You can get them jolly easy in China or on taobao for like 63RMB which is 9 bucks-ish for the 120 version. They also do colour motion picture films like 5203, 5207, 5213, 5219, and 5294. All of them are relatively cheap but in really high quality. Personally they've already taken over Portra's place in my choice. The only thing that needs to notice is that most of them need to be developed with ECN-2 method which in States very few shops accept them, even in NYC.
Yeah I’m pretty sure they’re based in Hangzhou, and since I live in Shanghai their stuff ships to me super quickly. I pretty much only buy film from them now, it’s all great
They are probably going out of business along all the other Kodak movie film respoolers though 😔
Portrait of the hat maker guy was so cool. Colors are so nice and it felt very old-school American craftsman.
I saw Lost in translation in the theater and I was crying laughing. Especially when he got into the shower and had to raise the shower head 2 ft. 😂 LIP THEM! LIP THEM!
try 82A/B/C filters for a less extreme cooling affect, might preserve some red halation
Hope you are fine Jason
I like the new lifted blacks and softer contrast. Easier to watch in the dark
The pushed Ektachrome photos you showed had a really cool look to them
Newbie question here. Is it shot at box speed then pushed a stop in development. Or pulled one stop when shot then pushed one in development?
@clint1268 somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe if you're pushing, you underexpose in camera and then overdevelop to compensate. And then vice versa for pulling
Aaah, shooting large format in a hurry, always the best feeling!
Thanks for sharing/creating. As always. Enjoyed watching/listening while working on some client photos.
Usually pushing slide film works better then color negative because of the development process
the walkie talkie we've all been waiting for
You should give the Nikon F4 a whirl sometime. It’s heavy but you had a Pentax 67, so you have the muscles
Fm3a has both mechanical and electronic shutter controls integrated (FULLY).
D stands for Distance (gives the camera distance information for improved exposure control when using flash)
That “cinestill 100t” stuff looks really nice, reminds me of the Portra 100t video
Looking forward to seeing videos of the new toys!
I bought that 20-35 Nikon lens earlier this year to shoot with on my N5005 and it’s awesome. Super sharp, and zoom range is absolutely perfect
The ending of The Mist was the MOST EXCRUCIATING of all time!!!!
Fun fact: the “S“ when people say something is s-tier actually stands for Sophia because she is the literal standard of goodness.
Also, your new Aerochrome filter stack would be a fun follow-up 👀
Hell yeah brother, the shovelhead is sweet
moon light pier shot is your best ever.
Welcome to the fm3a world🎉
The hustle on that moon shot - damn.
I love my LLL SP. Loads of glow wide-open, and the focus falloff is interesting. Mine is black but I like your Bronze Age version.
Awesome nikon gear! I almost bought the fm3a from a friend but bought his fm2t instead for half the price because I'm a fan of special editions (it's been one of my favorites to use ever since). The 20-35 is a sick lens. I plan to buy one when the af motor on my 17-35 finally stops working (no motor in the 20-35 means it won't break in that way). The "D" on Nikon lenses is for "distance". Basically it means the lens tells the camera what distance your subject is and it adjusts your flash output accordingly. I love using my n90s with the 17-35 and the sb800 off camera. The autofocus makes it so I can hold the flash off to the side and the matrix meter + d lens makes the flash exposures perfect and effortless
I now have something to look forward to
using hotdog water as a filter in between two UV filters screwed together should yield the results you want. adjust for -2 stops.
Love the portrait shot. ❤
Funnily enough, I just finished shooting a project on Ektachrome over this month. Now to see how it turned out when I get it back from the lab!
Gotta service my workhorses this year, my New F-1 and A-1
Scan results are kinda impressive. Cool setup🎉
Great video Jason, I’m also gunna watch this later
Today I learned I had a film camera before Jason did. FM3A gaaaaaang!
Yoo me too. That's what I'm talking about.
Revisiting this - while I definitely resonate with bulk loading 24 vs 36 exposure rolls - you should know that the math was done on this and that on a 100 foot roll, with a 6 frame leader - you lose 60 frames by loading 24 exposure rolls vs 36 frame rolls over all on the entire bulk roll.
I always pushed what was High Speed Ektachrome tungsten 160 to 640 when shooting gigs in the last quarter of the last century .... bit grainy, but probably the formulation was quite the same.
Jason is in my home town of San Clemente?! Major Darkroom news coming 1000%.
Also it’s insane to see him in SLO so much. I was in college as a photo student when that ship washed ashore. My man live my photo journey at all times
If you can, get your hands on the Voitlander 40mm F/2.
I was looking at buying that bulk roller at one point... would be nice if it wasn't 500 dollarinos. I then thought to myself its basically the same process as manual rolling it just goes brrr. all the steps before would be the same with that or a manual roller you just don't spin a nob I guess I also don't find myself rolling more than like 4-5 rolls at a time before stopping which doesn't usually take that long or much effort. Also the way you clutched your tripod like a purse when that car pulled up at the end killed me lol you were ready bolt.
Hi Jason, are you okay? Should we worry?
I think I saw a Reddit post saying he had to put a post on r/analoguecommunity saying he was safe. He’s probably got a lot of friends who have been affected I’d imagine :/
@@Bruton-Photography Tanks for your news
@@Bruton-Photographycan you link the post?
hello? where video?
Idk if it was his channel description before but it now says "go away" and his pfp is blacked out sooooo yikes? Idk he could post later or be doing a dry january or something or he could just be done you know what they say about assuming
That double x 120 film was from a Chinese company. I bought 2 rolls last year. Just viewed their Taobao and they are stilling selling this, for 60yuan which is about $8
As an X2D user, I have to say that the tonality of the 8X10 was much nicer - at a price, admittedly.
I hope you ok guys !
Here's another one for your FM3a. Get the Nikkor 45mm f2.8P. It was designed specifically for this camera for the most compact 35mm SLR set-up you can get. You'll often see reviews poo poo this lens, but it is a dynamite performer and solid metal construction.
that bulk loader might be just the thing to make to go digital....
If Tiffen made a filter with a less dramatic cooling effect that only robbed me of one stop of light, that would actually be perfect.
Voigtlander 50/1.0 cannot be a copy of the Noctilux when both those lenses have different optical designs. The parameters are similar, but so were parameters of all bright 50-55mm lenses back in the day and the look coming out of them was vastly different.
If you're thinking about something like the FM3a you owe it to yourself to consider the Nikon FA, which is amazing, and probably (?) does the exact same thing, for what I assume is a fraction of the price.
And it is smaller, lighter and has "matrix" metering. It was Nikon's first Matrix meter. Titanium shutter too. Makes the FM3a look like child's play
@@TucsonAnalogWorkshop It's crazy how much this camera offers. It's perfect. I don't always agree with R*ckwell but boy he got this one right.
You discvovered my secret sauce; Ektachrome pushed 2 stops with a warming filter. Welcome to the dark side... meaning you can shoot in the dark with higher iso.
Sell that moonlit 8x10 negative to me! Fantastic execution (love impromptu moments like that)
great your back :-) see ya soon or whatever
Happy Christmas. See ya next time
Hey Bud!
You're episodes run on my studiotv on loop with Martin Doojlard every day :D
Oppenheimer is Nolan’s best film since The Prestige
you're lucky to pay 24 dollars for one roll of E100, here in France it's like €29 (bit more than 30 USD at current rates)
It’s €34 (390kr) in Sweden. So $24 is a bargain.
@ oh gosh it’s even worse for you then. Kodak Alaris raising those prices to crazy levels
got my eye on an fm3a too
I'd never thought about holding up a filter to my spot meter rather than just changing the ISO to account for the filter factor. Have you found your method to be more accurate?
7:40 Distance coupling for flash I think
i still have about 10 rolls of Ektachrome in my bulk loader. I genuinely think its the best way to save money.
Interested in your filter array if you feel like going into detail. Also curious if you've tried the Kolari Vision IR Chrome Lens Filter? It's supposed to be close to the look straight out of a full spectrum camera.
Video on the Aerochrome filter stack and formula please!
Gotta love a shovel head
hope you all good希望你们一切都好❤中国
Nikon AF-D(istance Info) lenses have contacts for the thinking part of autofocus, but have a screw that the body turns to focus as opposed to G(elded) lenses that have AF motors built into the lenses and control aperture electrically. D lenses for film; G lenses for digital.
Nice bulk film loader. I read that Kodak will no longer sell Ektachrome in bulk to consumers. Better stock up.
The 5222 film (bwxx) actually is from china. It’s spooled by alien film,it has been broadly used in china . Don’t know how British got it😂
Trev Lee, love that dude!
I love that chair
Marcus shot my band's music video. He's so good and an absolute bud.
