I spent every new years with my family for the past 22 years without fail, and its always a lot of fun. Think most people try to hard to pretend they are party animals on a big day of the year.

Last new years, I was really sick. And I spent the entire day making fireworks in minecraft. Then at 9 PM, I launched them off with a redstone contraption that I invented, and then I went to sleep.

When I use MC, which isn't often, I enjoy making redstone circuits. My favourites are sliding doors that lock and a series of horrible traps that I developed to keep people out of my buildings that you have to memorise a path through.
Jack de Reduvo oh yes, those are fantastic. Flaming arrow kill chambers are probably the best trap to put in your doorway.
Sliding floors that drop you into lava pits; Dispensers filled with arrows, potions, and fire charges, (with droppers connected to chests filled with the stuff so it never runs out); an opening roof that drops lava or sand onto you; and my favourite, which doesn't require redstone, a choice between to pits of lava you have to sink through. One has water at the bottom, one doesn't, and the one without water as a dropper and a chest to collect your enemies' stuff..
Jack de Reduvo I generally do this type of stuff to knock back monsters. Place preasure plates at the door that will launch a bunch of flaming arrows in front of you before you go out, and then you know it's always safe to exit. No creeper greefing.

The best New Year party I ever had was the year Party Rock Anthem was big. My girlfriend and my best friend came over and we watched anime half the night, watched NYRE, me and my girlfriend got blasted (on a drink I came up with that probably already exists but I don’t know what it’s called), my friend got hopped up on energy drinks, and we laughed our asses off for a few hours, watched the balk drop and passed out.
We all woke up naked in a heap on the living room floor the next morning.
And that’s about all I remember.
I don't know if I've ever had to go through that. Of course almost every year I've spent home eating nice food and drinking until I fall asleep.
